The Stranger in Our Bed (2022)
Strong start but went downhill quickly
The acting is fine but the plot, the script and the twists are all rather disappointing. It tried too hard and had too many plot holes. Unfortunately it just made me cringe by the end. The twists were not very surprising apart from some in their silliness. I would like to be more charitable but I can't find any redeeming qualities to complete this review with applause.
Having said that, the settings were good with some grandiose locations.
Maybe if the plot had been tweaked a little to make everything more credible (I won't give examples to avoid giving away any aspects of the story) then I might have been able to give it a better score.
Fall (2022)
Mind Boggling.
What disappoints me about films like this - apart from the utter lack of realism - is the way that despite it being about women and to a degree their empowerment, it shows our protagonists as being, well, idiots. They grunt and puff their way through the climbing scenes instead of safely, skilfully and elegantly progressing in the way that truly excellent climbers do.
In other words the director made them look weak - and stupid - instead of putting strong, intelligent women in an adverse situation where they excelled in both their climbing and their ability to solve the problems they encountered. That's what the characters deserved and that's what female climbers deserve.
This could have been a homage to some truly exceptional people instead of this unrealistic drivel that is an insult to climbers and human intelligence alike. Next time, how about modelling the characters on the many awesome climbers in the real world and whilst you're at it, ask a climber or two about the sport instead of portraying it so unrealistically.
The Duchess (2020)
Funny & Tasteless, a great cocktail called The Duchess
I thought it was good fun. I like the main character because of her conflicting traits such as vanity and vulnerability. She's daft but fierce, often attractive but isn't afraid to be seen in public in her dressing gown. In fact, if you listen to Katherine talking about her experiences as a mum, her character is a rolled up collection of other mums and herself.
The writing was good as was the acting by all the crew. I hope there will be a second series.
If you have a problem with bad language, watch this series; you'll desensitise by the end of it!
Like the padding in a soap opera, this sentence is just a filler.
Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
Very Funny Series
I loved this hilarious series and unlike just about everyone else I'm glad it's finished after 3 series. I thought the last episode wrapped everything up nicely. Too many TV series drag on and on until they spiral down resulting in poor reviews about how series n onwards lost its way blah blah blah.
The crew did a great job and seemed to have a whole lot of fun. I loved Mr Ball-Legs (sp!) and would like one as a pet. His bumhole shaped mouth was very funny.
A great comedy with a lot of bite although it's not fo the squeamish.
