Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Confusing from start to almost finish!
Somehow the planners and writers seemed to think that throwing in as many plot lines and characters as possible to the first 2/3 of the film would be fun and make sense.
IT DID NOT! Most, honestly I am one to do polling of fellow viewers after the film, didn't get the story at all.
The last third was good only because it did something. Besides talk and introduce new characters no one cared about or understood why they were in the film.
Sorry this was a not nice effort. Left the people, myself gasping for understanding. VERY CONFUSED FILM!
Interstellar (2014)
Amazing SCIFI and terrific human interest
This was an epic event to watch. The theater was full and not a word said, not a cell phone lit up, silence!
Start to finish an amazing Tour De Force in true Space Opera fashion.
The music was good. But here is why it got a 9 instead of a 10.
The conversations were drowned out by the music at key moments. Something was seriously wrong about that.
I will need to see the film once more to try and catch what was covered over by the music.
I do celebrate great SciFi and this is a celebration of the highest order.
Outlander (2008)
Viking Scifi tale of heroes and dragons
Loved this movie in a general way. But somehow the editing seemed flawed. So much was left unsaid or untold. I keep feeling like there is a better (possibly a directors cut) that leaves in more of the details and parts that would have fleshed out the whole story in a more exciting way. Somehow the Advanced culture tech seemed to have been cut short and left me guessing and wondering about what was going on before he arrived on Earth.
The historical aspects of life in a viking village were as authentic as one might hope for. Seems that was the best imagining of viking village life since "13th Warrior".
Some of the older movies, Like "The Vikings" with I think Kirk Douglas did the typical Hollywood thing and made up the actual anthropological descriptions to suit the times the film was filmed in.
But Outlander managed so very well in the description of life in the times department.
I really love the movie! Hated the missing parts feeling.
Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? (1978)
The movie is a murder mystery and not a fashion show
The mystery is the thing.
Some of the greatest Chef's of England and the Continent are being murdered all around and no one knows why. But everyone certainly knows how for all of them, whoops, wont tell more don't want to spoil any second of this movie. But yep this is a real serious murder mystery alright! The fun is in the timing, these are some of the best actors of the times. Finest of their times to be honest.
Whether handsome, beautiful or ugly, that is immaterial. They are all consummate actors, ACTING and creating the characters we either grow to love, hate, loath or find funny as hell. BUT no matter how we react to them, they do what great actors do, they make the viewers really believe in them.
The comedy and the black humor are a mix of Keystone Cops and Burns and Alan craziness. Take it for the fun it is and enjoy the movie with friends. A party is in order for this one, good wine, cheeses, fancy deserts and a little sinister fun.
