Knight Chills (2001)
if only it was a better attempt
My name is Japanfan and i've been gaming for 18 years.
(Hi Japanfan!) the plot of this movie is sound. the execution leaves SO much to be desired. The actual scenes of them gaming is done so well and captures all the feel of being a gamer, including the gamers who are jerks by nature, who drink too much, who toke too much, or are way too into the game. Unfortunately, this is the best part of the movie. The production value is sad, the acting of 90% of the cast is less than crap, and the dialog needs tons of work.
That being said, i actually did like it! a lot! I gave it a 5 because all the stuff that is bad really is so bad that it takes that much away from a positive ranking. Especially the last 4 lines of the movie.... the last 4 lines of the movie RUIN EVERYTHING!! (assuming you believed there was anything in the movie left to ruin)
If your a hard core table top gamer, you will at least enjoy the movie on some level. if you are not, this is probably not what you would enjoy.
The Last Samurai (2003)
Glad I Went Alone
I was so skeptical because I have a very hit and miss record with Tom Cruise's roles in movies... hate him in this one, love him in that one, hate him again, loved him again. So I had hopes since I did like the premise behind the film, but I also liked the premise behind Eyes Wide Shut. So I had to see for myself.
The movie opened, and I love it.
I got to the first fight scene in the fog, and I fell in love again.
I sat through the fall and winter in the village, and I loved it all.
During the end of the final battle scene, I was visibly fighting back tears I was so in love with it (which is why I was happy that I went alone).
This movie brings forth all the honor and tradition that the samurai deserve. No spoilers, no in depth scene analysis needed. Just see it, trust me. That is all you need to do. You will see and you will know.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Attack of the Inside Jokes
The movie itself was very good; the special effects were pretty seamless; it had the look and feel of all the other Star Wars movies. The only exception was the plot was like
. no, the plot was The Empire Strikes Back, in a jumbled order: Large scale army scene on flat landscape with armored walkers, restrained to be later killed by local monster, starfighter chase scene through an asteroid field, landing on a large object mid starfighter fight to hide from radar, hi jinks with a droid's head, leading lady falling for questionable good guy, bounty hunter proving that he is the coolest thing in the galaxy. The saving grace I was looking for, the lightsaber battle, was not at tall what I hoped, as Christopher Lee, Count Dooku, is not Ray Park. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan, I love the series, but I was looking for more. I didn't have high expectations, but I did expect better.
100 Girls (2000)
Guy Film, Intellectual Movie, and Chick Flick all in one.
I rented this with my female friend hoping it would be a nice romantic comedy for everyone. It starts off as a USA Up All Night skin flick: just enough nudity and perverse, crude conversation to keep the average guy interested, and simultaneously make the average lady turned totally off from it. Somewhere in the middle, you don't even notice when, it begins to touch you, and make the sense to both sexes involved. Finally, the ending is the happy romantic conclusion that you hope and expect, satisfying everyone's needs. The only downside in the movie is the totally unnecessary graphic scene of extreme violence. Now I'm not a woman, and I'm not in counseling for abused women, so I would have no idea if the thought of biting a man's tongue off crossed many women's minds. The girl I was with was thoroughly grossed out by it. I had no problem with the violence, or the "women striking back" theme. It was the placement of the scene. It was right in the middle of the transition from the intellectual part of the movie, to the romantic part of the movie. If it was closer to the lowbrow part it would be fine; but it couldn't have been anywhere else.
K-PAX (2001)
As an aspiring actor, i hate Spacey because he's TOO good!
This movie was so wonderfully acted, that i cannot begin to say how much i loved it: the deadpan/overflow of emotions of Spacey, the never quite sure what he believes Bridges, and all the members of the hospital. Spacey rose the bar on acting this time around. and if the world meets this new level of skill, then it's truly going to weed out the pretenders and bring the whole acting industry up a notch, at least.
