Great Coastal Railway Journeys (2022)
A misnomer
With hardly any railway journeys, the title seems tenuous to say the least. In content, seemingly more concerned with wind farms, whales, CND, climate change and LGBT+ and other metropolitan concerns, it seems to have morphed patronisingly into another Countryfile.
Hypothetical (2019)
Good in parts
How good each episode of a show like this is will always be heavily dependent on the guests that week. Unfortunately that's a problem here, when you have to Google half of the them just to see who they are. And it quickly becomes clear that they aren't better known because they just aren't funny or entertaining. However, there are some good moments, and James Acaster is really the biggest reason to watch it.
Finch (2021)
Enjoyable end of world tale
An uncomplicated tale of life after the apocalypse, it is masterfully told, and ultimately rather moving. The best stories are sometimes the simplest ones.
Expedition X (2020)
Just no
The biggest mystery about this program is how it ever got commissioned. Jessica is obviously as mad as a box of frogs, and will believe literally any old rubbish instead of the obvious truth. Phil is supposed to be the voice of reason, but all too often goes along with ridiculous scenarios instead of just pointing out it's a load of nonsense. Formulaic, preposterous, implausible.
Expedition Bigfoot (2019)
Utter tripe
It's so bad, at times you wonder if it's a spoof. But no, these people really do seem to want to clutch at every implausible straw to make absurd claims. I know it's "for entertainment purposes only" but come on. Only one of the team has any credibility whatsoever, and does her best to keep the others grounded in reality, but often to no avail.
Outcasts (2010)
Oh dear
Pedestrian, unambitious, turgid and over-sentimental twaddle with a cast of characters it's impossible to care less about, frankly. Quite possibly the most disappointing and anaemic Sci Fi effort in recent history.
Will anyone still be watching when it finally shudders to a conclusion? Will the human race die out? If this is all that's left, let's hope so.
The basic premise of the plot clearly had some potential, but it certainly isn't likely to be realised by making it so slow and adding the particularly intrusive over-dramatic music and "meaningful pauses" at every opportunity. It could find a second use as a cure for insomnia I guess.
