The 10th Kingdom (2000)
That's En-ter-tain-ment
I'm still surprised how i was not bored watching this through: This is hearty & highly entertaining family fun! I've also seen some reference on films by Sam Raimi (close ups of flying arrows, Three Stooges style humour)....and after some reading, tadaa: the Emmy-awarded writer Simon Moore wrote also THE QUICK AND THE DEAD.
The actors were better than good, especially Scott Cohen (Wolf) and Dianne Wiest (Evil, but sexy Queen). I was also happy to see some 'good old friends' like John Laroquette and Rutger Hauer playing HIS usual, but perfect role: the Huntsman. Watch this if you think mainstream is broadly boring.
Xicu'l toperu (1994)
Unforgettable.
Xicu is a bit 'limited' young man whose hunting on a mule turns into obsession and has surprising side-effects...
What starts like an obscure comedy with farming flavoured characters develops within minutes to a poetic tragedy. How can a short film display the whole spectra of emotions ? Gonzalo Tapia shows you in a very haunting way. 'Xicu El Topero' is an emotional rollercoaster ride: brilliant and deeply moving.
