The Zone of Interest (2023)
Spine chilling masterpiece
As someone who has explored the Second World War and in particular the Holocaust I was intrigued when I discovered that this film was being made. Not only was the whole film incredibly well shot using unique cinematography but the cast were truly epic. Its portrayal of a "normal family" achieving a status in life that even your own mother would be proud at first glance, is only over shadowed by the sickening fact that you were living next to Auschwitz and listening to the daily massacre of thousands of innocents. Each actor played their roles to perfection and the journey the film takes you on is mind blowing. Right from the off you can see the artistic and thought provoking approach the film maker wanted to create for the audience. The insert at the end was ingenious as it served to in that very single moment, once again display the atrocities of the holocaust that sadly to this day divides the world because of what people believe in.
Mr Bates vs. The Post Office (2024)
Justice at last
I remember when this whole scandal hit the news at the time and was shocked. This is not only a masterpiece of a true story but has now done something that rarely happens - it's bringing justice. The cast assembled were truly epic and each one of the diverse cast gave 1st class performances (unlike Royal Mail). It is a truly unimaginable situation but what the cast did do was show a very genuine and natural portrayal of what those poor people actually went through. This is the first nationwide scandal that has been exposed that affected so many innocent people and has now given nearly 100 other people to come forward as new victims.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
Great music, complete madness and all thanks to a mission from god!
1980's - caught the last 30 minutes on TV and was blown away. Got to see the whole thing on TV edit so all the "adult stuff" removed. Finally early 90's I get to see the almost whole version which just blew me away. YES it's ridiculous. YES it's zany. BUT HELL YES if you want to escape the pain of life and escape into madness then you don't get better than this. Akroyd and Landis created a master piece supported by so many legends within the cast. There will never be another like it or one worth knowing every single line from start to finish!!!!
Keep it alive and keep passing this master piece on to the generations to come.
Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher (2022)
Did Stallone steal this story?
You know that age old question " what came first? The chicken or the egg?", well this is a real conundrum on how Stallone may have got his inspiration for Rocky! Unlike Rocky however, this is a terrible film. I am not sure how they managed to rope in Winstone and Crowe but things must be very desperate in their schedules to take on the roles they did. The story is poorly told, the acting is awful and the overall look is just terrible. I'm sure the historical significance is an important part of boxing history in England BUT this was a movie that the makers should have thrown in the towel after the first round!
