Evil: Genesis 1 (2019)
Great series for people who believe in the afterlife
Great characters that viewers can easily relate to.
The scene where George gets on. Katja's bed had some flaws ;
1) She had taped a sign on the ceiling that would be blurry if she was dreaming. In the scene , it was blurry, but she WAS'NT dreaming.
2) She saw George cut off her finger, but how could he fake that?
Other inconsistencies include;
1) How did Townsend break into the psychiatrist's file cabinet?
2) why did the receptionist leave Townsend alone in the filing room?
3) Why did the prison guards allow Katharine to riffle through the visitor logs?
4) Why would the Catholic Church spend money on a project like this and have a seminary student run it along with the church handyman?
5) How does a father run off to climb mountains when ha has four adorable daughters growing up without him?
I'm sure you will notice other anomalies, but if you can suspend belief, it is a really entertaining pilot . With four seasons, I'm hoping all the episodes are as good.
Criminal Minds: Ex Parte (2018)
Waste of Time
The show begins in the middle of the night with a service truck having two workers being hijacked by two armed men. One of the hijackers tackles the service guy while he is in the middle of calling into the base station . The dispatcher at the other end has to know that something is not right . He would ,logically, try to make contact, and when he gets no response, alert authorities. If the dispatcher is too lame to figure it out, then when the service workers don't arrive at their next call , the dense dispatcher will be forced to report the missing truck. At that point, the service truck's LoJack or GPS would be activated and the truck would be located.
Instead, the hijackers are able to bide their time until daylight, either in the hijacked truck or in a decoy truck - the episode doesn't make that clear.
Also, the hijackers tie the service guys up ,then murder them. Why tie them up if you are going to kill them?
Very poor writing throughout season 13. How lazy and insulting can writers be? Jeff Davis has been writing since the beginning so the blame may lie with the guest writers or the directors. Who knows.
True Lies: Separate Pairs (2023)
Computer Salesman / Spy
You really have to suspend disbelief when you watch this show. The writers want you to believe that two international spies are risking their lives, disrupting and endangering their children's lives and living a lie for decades in exchange for the meager income of a computer salesman.
Apparently the government wants them to live frugally in order to bolster their cover as an average family . Other spies, like James Bond, were able to live extravagantly while undercover.
Also, the government can afford to staff a full time operative next door, posing as a friendly neighbor, tasked with surveilling the kids, yet they are too cheap to offer hazardous pay to the spies?
Shake my head.
Mission: Impossible: Lover's Knot (1970)
In Love with Paris
I couldn't understand how Paris fell for Lady Westen, knowing how sneaky, underhanded and dishonest she was.
Her assignment was to seduce men and her husband was happy to have her encounters videotaped for the other members of his crew to watch.
Rollen Hand would never have been as weak and easily manipulated as Paris. This is why Paris is such a big disappointment- he can never fill Hand's shoes. He is so skinny and fragile especially when seen alongside Wiily, Phelps and Barney. You know he can't fight his way out of a paper bag
I guess Paris' own egotism allowed him to imagine that a woman would actually find him attractive.
Mission: Impossible: Nicole (1969)
Triple Agents!
It's hard to keep track of who is on Jim Phelps' side. Sparrow tells him that Joan Collins is a mole, then Collins tells Phelps that Sparrow is a double agent. Then Collins turns out to be a triple agent.
Next, the list they were sent to retrieve may be a phony and they have to either find the real list or abort the mission and turn in the phony list.
Joan Collins wears so much eye makeup and double false eyelashes I don't know how she can see ,nor do I understand how a guy like Phelps could find that attractive.
The scenery is nice and the mansion is beautiful as are the costumes in the party .
Cannon: Devil's Playground (1972)
Nice off road driving by Frank
Martin Sheen is a total knuckle head - Cannon yells "don't go in the mine" , Sheen stops, looks at Cannon and then continues toward the entrance.
It seems like Sheen constantly ignores Cannon's instructions. I don't know why Sheen is so heavily invested in catching the criminal when the accident that put him on disability was caused by his own poor driving skills.
The dumb waitress is clearly decades older than her criminal boyfriend- how deluded must she be to not know he is just using her? She also endangered Cannon's life numerous times , plus she stole the car keys AND told the gang about the money Cannon was carrying. She should have been arrested for being stupid.
Barnaby Jones: Beware the Dog (1975)
Similar to Agatha Christie mysteries
As with stories written by Agatha Christie, this episode has many red herrings and multiple possible suspects .
Most Barnaby Jones episodes usually begin by showing the crime occurring with the actual criminal committing it. Next the viewer gets to see how the clever old man unravels the threads and unmasks the guilty party. The episode ends with cops hauling off the offender. There is no closure, such as a follow up meeting with the victims where Jones dispenses some folksy observations and wisdom and is showered with praise and thanks.
This episode is different- we see the crime but not the perpetrator. After many false leads and dead ends, Jones unmasks the guilty party. We finally have a happy ending with victims thanking Jones.
It was worth the price of admission to see old Jones performing acrobatics with the dog.
Barnaby Jones: Murder Once Removed (1975)
Husbands need to include wives in important decisions
While I agree with others that Melissa is a cold blooded killer, I think her husband should have discussed his plans to give away his fortune with his wife.
This story was set in the '70's , when women were considered coequals in a marriage.
Melissa was actually pretty talented - she could swim for hours in open seas and she could perform underwater acrobatics in the Bahamas while wearing a blonde wig. She also knew how to blow up an RV and make it look like an accident.
The family estate is beautiful as are the automobiles!!
Also, I notice Y. A. Adams reviewing some episodes and calling them predictable, then giving a rating of 1/10. If he doesn't like the show, then why is he bothering to watch it?
Nero Wolfe: The Murder in Question (1981)
Complicated plot
Warten and Carlson are partners in a law firm. Three years ago, while single, Warten had an affair with Carlson's wife. Then Warten met his future wife Carol and broke off the affair.
Then Carlson and his wife got divorced. She was ten years younger than him.
Warten's wife Carol was just killed in a car crash, which was conveniently witnessed by Archie Goodwin, Nero's sidekick.
For some reason, Warten's secretary has now become Carlson's secretary, and Warten's new secretary was blown to smithereens right at her desk. Was the intended victim Warten? Who knows?
Why did the dead secretary deposit large sums of money in her bank account?
The plot thickens. You have to watch it to see how Nero Wolfe unravels this case.
In every episode, the cop really irritates Wolfe by getting out of his chair without using his arms. Well ,at the 33:00 time mark, he used his arms.
