Injustice (2021)

Honestly not *that* bad
12 November 2021
I'll admit I wasn't hype for this movie. I haven't read or played Injustice but there seemed like there was too much at play in this very short movie. I was mostly right.

I said it wasn't that bad. That's because there's still enough thought-provoking themes and decent action to make it an entertaining film, it just lacks the character development and runtime to reach the heights of better Superhero v Superhero movies like Civil War.

Overall, I'd recommend it just lower your expectations. Decent not great.

A Tragic Love Story
1 September 2021
While the show so far has been hit or miss, with below average voice acting, poor animation and weak pacing that goes too fast, this episode manages to really shine thanks to its more personal story and hiring all the actors from the movies back and them actually giving incredible performances all around. The animation still isn't the best but the cinematography really helped it unlike episodes 1 and 3. It's also really dark and ballsy because there's so much that happens.

I also like this episode didn't end on a setup for an episode I don't care about. Overall a fantastic, investing and emotional episode that rises above the mediocrity of this show thus far (except episode 2, which was fun enough but still not the best story)

Disappointing, to say the least.
1 February 2021
Batman: Under the Red Hood, one of DC's most successful animated films, finally got something added to that continuity of animation. The trailers were really good, and showcased the variety of stories in this movie very well. The big issue is that the marketing didn't show as much that renting the film means not getting the interactive version. You can find all scenarios if you buy the film digitally, but you need a Blu-Ray for the full experience. Since this is more a collection of shorts, I will review each one separately. (I have done reviews on Adam Strange and Death on those pages, but I'll shorten it here.)

Batman: Death in the Family scenarios

Red Hood Reloaded: This scenario is essentially Under the Red Hood but shortened and narrated. Although it brings some interesting perspective, it can't replace the original. 4/10

Jason Todd's Rebellion: This one is the shortest, and it has some very interesting ideas presented. It's unfortunately too short and abrupt to say it was even complete. It at least doesn't drag like Red Hood Reloaded. 5/10

Red Robin's Revenge: This short was entertaining. It had some solid action scenes, the voice acting was fine, but the ending was a little convenient. 7/10

Red Hood's Reckoning: This short was well-written, intense, and satisfying. It is a little more violent to push that R rating, but it was good. 7/10

DC Showcase shorts:

DC Showcase is an area of DC that makes shorts of obscure characters likely not to get a feature film, to introduce to audiences these new characters.

Sgt. Rock: An entertaining War short with supernatural-horror elements and good action. 7/10

Adam Strange: Overly violent, dull short with unlikeable characters and it doesn't give audiences a good idea of who Adam Strange is. 3/10

The Phantom Stranger: Scooby-Doo meets the occult, tone-wise. There is even a VW Mystery Machine car. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't interesting. 5/10

Death: Adapted from Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Death is a beautiful, bittersweet end to this mediocre animated film. 9/10

Phenomenal, bittersweet, well-animated short
1 February 2021
I haven't read Neil Gaiman's Sandman series yet, but this short has made me excited to. The animation is pretty good, it could have been better, but it fit the tone of the short. The story is excellent, and very relatable for people who self-criticize a lot. Overall, this was an incredible short with a great story, voice acting, themes, tone, etc.

One of the worst DC Showcase shorts
31 January 2021
DC Showcase is an area of DC animation that creates animated shorts to introduce audiences to characters too obscure to get their own film. Adam Strange, from what I've heard, is a much different character than this short. You don't even get a good idea of who the character is. Instead of showing who Adam Strange is in his prime, where audiences can get a good idea of who he normally is, they decide to show him as a drunk, miserable person who nobody likes. The rest of the characters aren't given much either. Most of them come off as A-holes. The positives is the animation. It's not amazing, but it was clean. The action was overly violent and almost indiscernible.
