Person of Interest: Many Happy Returns (2012)
Fascinating character study by John Reese
Ahead, this is one of my favorite episodes. So it maybe that i'm not objective but I try to describe what this episode makes it so interesting and engaging in my opinion.
If you've followed all the episodes up to this one, you know that John harbors great guilt. He was unable to help and save his girlfriend Jessica, when she needs him because he had to follow an assignment to China - Ordos.
When he came back, it was too late, Jessica died in a car accident, but this was only the covering up for the murder of her abusive husband Peter.
Meanwhile Finch got a new case, a woman named Sarah Jennings. She was on the run from her violent husband who was US-Marshal. Finch knew the circumstances of Jessicas death and wanted to keep John off the case because he feared it would cause strong emotions from the past in John.
But John discovered what Finch was trying to keep from him and became very angry about it. So for the first time a big rift opened between Finch and Reese and as a result Finch was unable to stop Reese by his actions to protect Sarah.
John Reese aka Jim Caviezel did a fantastic job. He has the ability to convey feelings alone through his impressive eyes. It was heartbreaking to see his tearfilled eyes when he found out that Jessica was dead.
Later, when he spoke with Sarah in her in her apartment to assure her that he wanted to protect her from her husband, his eyes were very compassionate.
The expression in his eyes changed again when he went into the marshal's office to intimidate and deter the violent husband from continuing to pursue his frightened wife. One of the best scenes in this episode.
Later, when Sarah was picked up by her violent husband, Finch found a way to track the car using a hack. John told Finch to leave the laptop and get out of the car.
His voice was absolutely calm, but he said it so firmly, and he had a look in his eyes that was really scary. This was a Death Glare, and you could see that Finch was horrified.
Reese was able to protect Sarah in the last minute, literally, and to knockdown her husband and putting him in the trunk. He planted heroin on him and took him to a mexican prison.
In a flashback John was shown holding Jessicas abusive husband accountable.
Finch learned that for all his grief and guilt, John has never left his sense for justice. In this respect, a wonderful character study of john, linked to other storylines that explain his behaviors.
Conclusion:
This episode is absolutely outstanding. Jim Caviezel has, in my opinion, the most beautiful and soulful eyes in Hollywood and he conveys these feelings to the audience like no one else.
Person of Interest: Pretenders (2014)
Pretenders is hilarious and so much fun to watch again and again
It's one of my favorite episodes, for several reasons.
First, I love the awkwardness and clumsiness of Walter Deng, the actual number. Second, the way he speaks, showing his adoration of Reese.
Hilarious, when he says: "How do you do this with your voice".....outstanding. There are so many other lines that have inspired me. For example, when Reese brought him to safety at the 8th precinct and it dawned on Walter where the man in the suit might be.
In the end he even managed to get a smile out of John when he recognized that the man in the suit had never left.
The resemblance to the "Avengers" was also never out of place. In the contrary, it was a lot of fun, very well placed. I enjoyed it.
