Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Tired Sci-fi
To start, the show is not bad, nor is it good. It is stale. Sci-fi is stuck in a rut. I'm afraid that Star Wars is playing a large part with the issue. It was so innovative and original that other attempts pale in comparison. Even the newer Franchise releases have suffered under the hands of Disney.
The original Star Wars developed characters before jumping head on into the saga. We cared and understood the characters. They were also limited to a number that allowed their development. Do we really understand or care about the Rebel Moon participants? Not in my book. We have retread characters that don't measure up to Luke, Lea, ObiWan, Han, and of course Vader.
The writing is stale. We need new blood in the Writers Guild. Be innovative and not copy previous themes. I'm afraid Sci-fi may follow a path that Westerns did from the 50s, too many similar themes that caused a hiatus of releases. Perhaps a pause till new material is warranted.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Thought This Was About Obi-Wan?
Disney needs to issue a Do Not Resuscitate order for this series. It's on Life Support and in need to be put to rest. Just when you thought the writing couldn't get worse, it did. Disney seems as though it hasn't the vaccine to revive the brilliant franchise. Money seems as though it is the main driving force of Star Wars, certainly not the writing.
There is little to no cohesiveness to releases. They are fragmented and meander. The characters are not properly developed. Honestly what characters have been embraced? One exception is the Mandalorian Series where Grogu (Baby Yoda) was loved. I digress. Sorry, I'm an old-timer who viewed the first release in the cinema with the first showing.
The Reva character is terrible or should I say Jar Jar Reva? Darth Vader succeeded because there was a mystery to his character. He was behind a mask. We didn't know what he looked like or what made him who he was until later films were released.
There is no mystery to Reva, she looks too human. Her acting is poor. Is it due to the direction or is she another Jake Lloyd?
Obi-Wan has been a favorite character since the original release. The series is titled Obi-Wan. Why isn't he the central character in a series bearing his name? Please develop his character leading to the original film. What we have viewed does little to flesh him out. His prime focus was to look after Luke and eventually mentor him. It fails miserably on this end.
Almost universally Disney was applauded when they purchased the franchise. They have succeeded at the park, but not with the films or series. Why have the parks succeeded? I believe it is due to the Imagineers. Perhaps they should be called upon for scripting?
See (2019)
Poor Character Development and Story Line
Why were GOT and The Vikings so successful? To a large part Character Development and an engaging story line. See fails on both fronts. Finished episode three and I really don't know or care with any of the characters. They appear to be props to excellent cinematography.
The show is unbelievable. An almost totally blind society that can explore new territories and climb rocks without falling. Please. The truth be known if mankind lost its sight we would perish. The action and scenes are well crafted but that is where it ends. Save your time and money Apple + is not the worth.
See: Message in a Bottle (2019)
Distasteful
The prayers of the queen are very distasteful mocking Christianity. Overall the program is good but please have some respect.
Tolkien (2019)
Language
The film is about language and the power of words. It pays homage to Tolkien in an insightful and descriptive manner. You will understand events and talents that lent to the creation of his passion for writing. J.R.R. Tolkien was a true superhero. His powers were words and imagination, able to transport his readers to another world.
The acting is superb, particularly Lily Collins. This is a film with little fanfare, deserving so much more.
