Persona 3 Reload (2024)
Memories of You
Wow, just wow. I rarely cry when it comes to any form of entertainment, but this might be the first time I've ever given a standing ovation to for a whole 10 minutes. This game is a masterpiece, by definition.
I'll be very honest, I can barely find anything wrong with this remake but if I had to nitpick, it would be the soundtrack, which in of itself, is beautiful (especially the new songs) but it does pale a little bit in comparison to the original OST.
The story as expected, is fantastic. The characters are highly improved upon, especially Strega, where in the original, they felt like douchebags. But in the remake, they felt like they actually have purpose. And Fuuka is just way better than she ever was in OG P3.
Thank god they drastically improved Tartarus, not just in visuals but now exploring the Tower doesn't feel like a slog to get through.
The cast and the voice acting were all perfect, even Akihiko. I would normally still say that Liam O'Brien would be the better pick but the resolution scene made me love his voice.
The graphics are literal eye-candy. Easily the best looking Persona game to date.
Gameplay is amazing, nearly beating Persona 5 Royal.
UI is peak. Nothing more that needs to be said.
There are rumors that The Answer is also getting remade and possibly FeMC. But as it stands now, Persona 3 Reload is the absolute best way to experience P3 in 2024 and the coming years.
Edit: Well, they announced it! Episode Aigis -The Answer-. Once I'm finished with that in September, I'll update this review.
Max Payne 3 (2012)
End
I'm not gonna write a review, even though i think Max Payne 3 is a masterpiece, just like the other 2 Max Payne games. But I came here to just say that James McCaffreys voice and likeness as the protagonist can never be replaced by anyone. If anything, he's the only reason I even kept playing through the whole trilogy, It's a damn shame we lost someone who wasn't even that old yet. Rest in peace, and i still need to play Alan Wake 2 to see your last performance. To quote him "Birthdays are like regrets, they just keep coming, each one a new scar that slowly drags you closer to your grave"- Max Payne.
Vinland Saga: Hometown (2023)
End of the Season
As a manga reader, this was a really great episode. It's safe to say Vinland Saga isn't underrated anymore and I'm glad it's getting the attention it truly deserved with the "I have no enemies" quote. My only criticism was that Mappa cut out 2 scenes from the manga if I'm recalling it correctly. And that's not even what i consider as a complaint, i guess it's more nitpicking. Many fans dropped Season 2 because there was barely any action. They'll regret it because Vinland Saga teaches people lessons far greater than many pieces of fiction. They even did a really brilliant ending scene by showing us important character's pasts and what's to come for the future. Makoto Yukimura, you GOAT.
Vinland Saga: Slave (2023)
A beautiful yet tragic introduction to best bro Einar
I speak as a fellow manga reader for the Farmland Arc, and i can only say that i have never been so impressed with an anime adaptation in such a long time (besides JoJo Part 6). Opening? Masterclass. Ending? Top-notch. All fitting for this arc in my opinion. And now to the episode, i don't recall some scenes in the anime in contrast to the manga, that being said, it's still amazing. They perfectly introduced Einar into the series and shows one striking difference between him and Thorfinn and that is one of them didn't attempt to take revenge. I am only excited as how far the studio attempts to take this anime as a manga reader. But i only have the highest of expectations. Common Mappa W.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Memories of the Future (2022)
Built different in terms of storytelling
AOT is not my favorite anime, it's not even my top 10. But it just might be after this episode. The plot twist in this episode was so mindblowing, and I'm sure most of us thought the same. As a manga reader myself, I know very well MAPPA will properly adapt the manga from here on out. And as for the anime fans who are rating the episodes a 1/10. Please don't. Yes the AOT fanbase is literally human cancer and I know very well they rate animes a 1/10 too, but just because you do the same to them, that doesn't make you any less of pricks than them. So just enjoy your own respective animes and give the rating that you think it deserves, don't rate it 1/10 just because another fanbase rated your favorite anime low. It's fatherless behavior.
Ashita no Jô 2: The Great End (1981)
Speechless
Okay I've yet to watch this series, I was recently hajime no ippo and this came up as recommended. I honestly thought aot and breaking bad were the only ones with episodes rated 10. I guess I'm wrong. Looks like I've to pick this series up.
Tokyo Revengers: Rerise (2021)
a banger!
Takemichi actually choking and subduing kiyomasa has to be one of the most satisfying things i have ever seen in all of anime. I honestly thought draken died in the previous episode. I have high hopes that tokyo revengers will take takemichis character development much further this time.
