Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Sad, boring, PREDICTABLE!
I nearly turned this off several times. Look, Indiana Jones films are supposed to be action packed. Not action force-fed! There was so much "action" that the climax felt like just another fast paced bit of scene. I was able to predict all major plot points! Indiana felt like a washed up old grump rather than a retired adventurer. The nature of the "object of interest" in this film (the dial) was too much! I've only seen 2 of the older films, but in those days, the objects messed with some form of Devine power that ultimately punished their enemies. This object was a mathematical device. The characters were shallow, the plot predictable to a fault. The action boring, the writing messy. The entire thing felt like a kid got bored, so he wrote his own Indian Jones story, and someone found and liked it.
Loki (2021)
I have hope for Marvel
This show was much better than I expected! After Eternals, WandaVison, and all the recent marvel projects I had extremely low expectations. I was blown away not only by the story, the wonderful performances, and character chemistry, but the production was beautiful! The amount of physical sets and sheer scale of them gave the entire who a realistic feel that marvel has not had for a very long time! Any CGI used was beautiful and well done, and it was only used when needed (when they would not make a set to the scale or when showing something physically impossible.) I will not spoil anything, but I felt that Marvel writers put more time and effort into this show than they have put into anything in a long time. This show gives me hope for the MCU and Marvel Studios as a whole. In any film or show, there will be inconsistencies or plot holes no matter what any writer or film maker does. While no story is perfect, I feel that this show came close.
Gran Turismo (2023)
"Unlikely Hero" story for a modern age
The fact that this film is "based on a true story" is just incredible. I fell in love with the characters, lost my cool during the twists, and wanted to see Jann win. A movie with great pacing and good drama, other than the language, I would say there is very little wrong or poor in it. The camera work and the screen felt very busy most of the film, but if it was on purpose, then it was a great way to portray Jann's overstimulation when he went from bedroom to car. So I ended up enjoying the busyness. It felt natural. Will definitely be purchasing in March.
Went home from the theater and watched "FordvFerrari." (I highly recommend.) Crazy to think these two "based on true story" films are in the same universe lol.
Bottom line.
"Gran Terismo," 7.5 out of 10. Loved it.
Divergent (2014)
I love the book, but the movie...
I usually only read at night, but the book made me read throughout the daytime and nighttime! So when I started the film, I was super excited.
The first 20 minutes were good. And then it slowly went downhill. The book was filled with detail, personal relationships with each character, intimate thought processes, and emotion at every turn. And this film felt rushed, watered down, and many of the important details were changed, warped, not eluded too, and/or forgotten. Tris's mom was Divergent, Tobias never liked being called "Four" and asked Tris to stop calling him that. Peter was a villain, not an annoyance, and on top of everything else, Al, Peter, and Will looked EXACTLY alike! The only reason I knew who was who was because I've read the book.
Also, Tris is supposed to be 16, and she looks it. Tobias is supposed to be 18. 😐
He looks 29, (his actor was 30 at the time.)
There was no chemistry between Tris and Tobias, and stakes were changed with the amount of people in the last scene in the control room.
Also. Jeanine is a lukewarm villain. Not scary, or intimidating, or someone that makes your heart race when they suddenly appear on screen. She is the villain because she is a the villain.
This movie is sad.
I wonder what Veronica thinks?
Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
This wii is my childhood
My brother, sister, and I have spent countless hours playing this game, have completed it at least 4 times and know every trick and secret (though somehow, my brother is still the master of the wii and I fall into every other black hole 😅🙄) and this game still refuses to get old! I forever smile at the penguins, sneer at the BolderBash monster, jump when I need Mario to go a little higher (because that will SOMEHOW make him jump higher 😅😂🙄) and shout for my brother to run for his life when the next Boss is after him (Mario.)
We will never be bored of it! And that is a fact!
Amazing game and highly recommend to anyone in this day and age with a Wii!
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
They don't make movies like this anymore
A beautiful love letter to good old fashioned ingenuity and cinematic dedication. It has been a long time since I saw a movie I can proud to love. The lack of CGI, the story, the acting and the lack of acting at the same time! I've never even seen the first movie and I fell in love with Goose and Maverick's relationship and cried in the theater. The amount of modesty was overwhelmingly refreshing as well. This movie is something that this generation can be proud to say "I went and saw Top Gun: Maverick in theaters."
Project 863 (2018)
Hooked and waiting for answers!
I discovered this show by accident and it may be the best accident that has ever happened to me. I laugh at the jokes, the acting is MUCH better than I would have ever suspected. I feel like this is real! I actually had to look up if it was real! This now my show, and the first binge worthy thing I've watched in a LONG time.
I will repeat.
I am hooked.
Project 863: Found Secret Hidden Keys In Hi5 Studios! (2018)
Great start.
The only reason I gave this so low a rating is because this started as a Vlog. It was a wonderful way to start out such a developing series, but I find the Vlog bit kinda slow. The actual PLOT part is wonderful and entertaining! Feels so real!
Lost Gold of WW2 (2019)
Much better than Oak Island
Don't get me wrong, I love Oak Island. But for the last 2-3 years they've found close to nothing, and all the air time is taken up by their "more-than-annoying" narrator. I'm this show, they find stuff, there are legitimate sources and discoveries. They are bad actors, which is amazing! Because it makes it possible to tell how real it is. The acting is kept to an extraordinary minimal and even if what they find doesn't help them, at least they found something! The mystery part of it keeps me on the edge of my seat, and the historical part makes me want to learn more about WWII.
Over all, desperately hoping for a 3rd season! Love this show so much!!
The Music Man (1962)
Something wasn't right
I have watched this movie several times, and even though I love the songs, the story, and the characters, there is just something that keeps this from being a regular watch for me. I think that it may be the lack of chemistry between characters. I love every character on their own, but put them together and it doesn't really work. Harold Hill looks old enough to be Mariens father, and Mrs. Paru is too unlike her relatives. While I keep coming back to this movie, I never get to the credits feeling satisfied. Something just isn't right.
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969)
Acting
Love this movie 95%. The only thing I have against this movie is that the acting is mediocre. Absolutely adore everything else. Especially Dean Higgins!
The Moon-Spinners (1964)
A LOVELY CLASSIC
My grandparents had a VHS player when I was growing up, and this was one of their tapes that I never got around to. I finally did watch it the other day, and was very much entertained. I loved the classic DONT GET CAUGHT storyline, and the Villain certainly kept me on my toes. I loved Mark's determination to keep going despite his weakness, Aunt Fran's mothering nature, Alexis' smile and want to help his friends, and Stratis' well hidden anger and cunning. The only problem I have with this movie is that I think the writers had a very universal problem when it comes to stories. Writing a convincing leading lady. We know all the little details about the other characters and they are very consistent with their emotions. But Nikky (Halie Mills) just didn't give me that same sort of complexity. She is constantly switching between the scared child and the woman who wants to help. And we know nothing about her. That is the only problem I found in the movie. Other than that, I had an extremely positive experience with The Moon-Spinners. I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a mystery, but doesn't like movies that are too dark. A great family pick, and a classic in my book.
Free Guy (2021)
A very fun watch but too much explanation
I really enjoyed the first half of this movie, I laughed and cringed at Guy's innocence and ignorance, loved Millie, Keys and Guy to death! But the moment this movie went from "this video game is alive," to "this is a highly advanced ai system that makes so many different choices that it seems extraordinarily life-like," my wonder and interest levels DROPPED! From then on I could only view Guy as a crazy advanced Siri. The crude jokes were very unnecessary, the language was the same. And if you are going to try and show that playing video games all the time is not a great way to spend your time, then maybe not make it so obvious. I felt like I was being force-fed that message, and I don't even play video games.
And one last thing, when Guy and Millie kiss the second time, the theme from the Disney short "Paper man" begins to play! I love that sound track, but if you don't take the time to write your main characters their own love theme, then are you really invested in them? To me, it was like saying, "I have to to write a theme for THEM? Really? Oh, I'll just steal one of my other songs and save time so I don't have to focus on the MAIN CHARACTERS anymore!"
Yeah, so... overall, a fun watch, but be cautious if you have kids, and don't expect "Movie of the year," like I did.
Tron: Uprising (2012)
Great show, but the Animation...
I am absolutely loved the storyline, the character development, the stakes, the plot, and essentially everything about this new universe, and the people in it. However, the animation style threw me off so much that I would often laugh at major character deaths because of the faces of the programs around them. The entire reason I did not want to watch the show in the beginning was because the animation looked so dumb. Some face is a little to no expression and I only have their voices to go by, and sometimes the voice actors don't even fulfill that. It would jump around from being very smooth animation that I could tell was done in a 3-D space, to being a jumpy-jerky too-difficult-to-look-at-without-frowning-and/or-laughing kind of animation. I love the stories, I loved the tension, I loved the characters, but the animation made it difficult for me to feel some of the greater emotions in play. Especially with Tron. His eyes were so small I could hardly ever tell if he had a different expression on his face. Only CLU and one other character (who I will not spoil) were the only characters who I think look relatively human and realistic enough for me to read their emotions. And they were based off of human characters with highly recognizable features.
Overall incredible show, but the animation style was distracting.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian (2022)
It took getting rid of the main character to make an episode interesting.
This episode was full of tension, mystery, intriguing details. And the one major thing I can say is that they achieved this two ways.
1. Adding Din
2. Subtracting Boba Fett
This who show was a chore to watch until this episode! The only reason I did was because I wanted to see Din, who I was POSITIVE they would use.
Overall, good episode, so happy to see Din Djarin again.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
They could have done WAY better.
I may have still cried at the end and loved the end scene with the kids, but I feel like the rest of the movie's story missed the mark. I think it would have been better if they had just given us a villain you could hate! Drago was terrific and terrifying! He hated dragons because they killed his family, and he used his hate to create an army of hatred. The real villain of the first movie was Hiccup's own family, caught in the old ways and the fear of the unknown and of dragons. And Grimmil? He's a guy who likes to kill things?
Give us a better villain and I would have liked this movie way more. He's the Generic version of Viggo Grimborne from Race to the Edge. But Viggo had motive, he was a business man with an evil mind. Grimmil just likes to kill Night Fury's? Could have done better.
