Unthinkably Good Things (2022)
Fun and Light
Reminded me of my best friends from college and Law School. Yes there are different plots but its the story line of each girl. You have to tell the story of each main character. It ties them in together at the end so I don't think that is a valid assessment. It is not different than any other movie that has friends as the main characters.
It is definitely not complex enough to be hard to follow. Simply story lines for each friend and honestly usual. One is controlling and seems to have it all together, another is unfocused and impulsive, and the another use to be positive but something happened and it turned her dark. They each overcome their obstacle and get to their ok place. I like how it leaves it completely unfigured out. You know that each friend reaches a level of ok and contentment at the end. It honestly leaves room for a sequel or a series.
I think it was very fun and light and much needed. The drama that was there was not too intense but just enough to darken all of the happy moments. I like how there were guys in the movie but their relationships to the three main characters were not at the forefront and the girls were not whining about their issues with the men in their life or lack there of.
Loved it and texted my besties and told them to watch it immediately and that we need a girls trip before next spring!
The Porter (2022)
Great show!
I did not know this show was coming out but I'm glad iv got on my BET+ app for something and came across it. Great show! I hope there's a season 2 and I don't have to wait forever. I like the characters and the plot. The actors do a great job some are known and others I have never seen before but they all seem to have been committed to their role and made it work perfectly! I think Zeke is my favorite. I also like the history part, it sparked my interests enough to research. I always thought that Canada did got deal with racism and colorist issues like the US did and while they may not have been as bad there were some issues there. Overall excited I stumbled on this series. Bet plus has to do a better job at handling advertising. More people would subscribe if they could watch content like this.
Tha God's Honest Truth with Charlamagne Tha God (2021)
Refreshing and Honest!! He's not a comedian and it is not purely for entertainment!
First, I am a fan and a fellow South Carolinian!! In spite of this I have the ability to be objective. While there are some jokes that are flat, if you know anything about Charlamagne Tha God you know it isn't his intent to be a comedian! He is not a comedian, so the expectation of that is ridiculous! I love how he is creating a space to give knowledge on topics that are relevant. If I had to describe the show it is a discussion of current events in a way that CNN, MSNBC, or even the Breakfast Club can. It's laid back and personable enough to be played in the barbershop but filled with enough history lessons, expert opinions, and statistics to be discussed in a college classroom. Now I will say you have to be exposed to black culture to get some of the intended puns but his brutal attack on some of the ridiculousness that is taking place in the world around us today. I've been a fan since before he became an author or a mental health advocate and I think the show is awesome. I love how he is able to truly hold no punches and expound on current events and past events that he is not allowed to on the Breakfast Club and other platforms. He is giving facts that many in his fan base may not be typically privy to, the general public does not follow political news closely enough to even understand where some of the outrage is coming from.
Before social media black people received a majority of their political knowledge and point of views from church and the local NAACP chapters (referring more to the South) and now we have so many avenues to speak its great to have a person like Charlamagne who isn't afraid to ask questions and speak out. He grew up in the South and has lived and worked in NY for many years so he has the ability to understand things differently. He pushes the envelope and is not afraid to say what the average person is thinking and he has the platform to do so.
I love how he calls people to the carpet, Cedric Richmond is an amazing person but I love how he pushed the hard questions on the latest episode. I also love how The Lox came on as well...and Styles P should be in more rooms at more tables with his thoughts as well. This show is not for complete entertainment purposes so that expectation is ridiculous. I love how there is a set format but at the same time its not if that makes sense.
Not to mention I love how he never shies away from his South Carolina Low Country Roots! Instead of picking a part the fact that he says Nigga a lot or speaks shares some harsh history facts about whites in America focus on the show as a whole it is really not a bad show. I do however hate the gaming chair he sits in and I am glad his cup actually has the name of show put on it instead of the the paper that was taped on in the first show LOL! I hope it is renewed, I will be keeping my Paramount+ subscription for the show! I also hope I get to be in the audience some time soon!!
