Yakusoku no Neverland (2019)
Good show, better manga.
Season 1 was so tense, and felt like a pyschological thriller, it put genius against genius, and that sort of reminds me of Death Note. You wanted them to win, the writing makes you care about the characters, and it even creates sympathy for the villains.
Season 2 is fine, compared to S1, it's nothing, it seems really quick, and it doesn't follow the manga most of the time, everything the season is building up to is crammed into one unexciting episode which none of the writers will even take credit for. Overall, I did like it, but I see why people don't.
Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019)
A strong show.
Demon Slayer was anime of the year 2019, and rightly so, it was trending every week and had stunning animation, there is no better studio for Demon Slayer than Ufotable. The visuals and single frames are breathtaking, and the action is brilliant. Tanjiro's encounter with Muzan Kibutsuji is enough to send goosebumps through your whole body.
Episode 19 is perfect, the soundtrack is great, and Tanjiro vs Rui's final stage is probably the best scene in an anime I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot, the soundtrack is a masterpiece and the colour and animation in general is unrivalled, Tanjiro cutting Rui's head off is such a good moment, because it's something that makes you feel a sense of victory. This episode blew up the internet, and the action accompanied with "Tanjiro Kamado no uta" made a few tears roll down my face.
Only complaint is the characters' "quirks", every time Zenitsu is on screen, he's crying and whining 80% of the time, Inosuke is screaming, Kanroji is falling in love with someone or something, Muichiro is distracted, and so on and so on, though it doesn't change the story one bit, so who cares?
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
"Peak Fiction", almost a masterpiece.
Attack on Titan first arrived in 2013, and anyone who was around as an anime fan at the time would know that this is what made modern anime mainstream. The hype built up week after week with every new episode, and when the season finished, it was a fun ride, something incredible was being created here, everyone knew it. After the last episode, we waited for S2, and waited, and waited..
S2 came out 4 years later, and the fanbase was still huge, but nothing compared to Season 1, S2's plot was better, and it gave you a sense of "anyone could be a traitor, anyone can die". Many think that Reiner and Bertholt's reveal was the best scene of the series, and for good reason, the emotion, the shock, the tension, the action and the aftermath were all what made the reveal so perfect. It also had better animation, but was rather similar to WIT Studio's new anime, "VIVY", it had decent animation, and a lot of incredible frames in there. Other than those frames, the season had good animation, nothing bad, though. A complaint I do have is the CGI for the Colossal Titan, not CGI in general, but the quality of it, it kinda takes a lot out of some really good scenes from the Manga, it's just not good CGI.
Season 3 Part 1 is certainly the weakest point in AOT, simply because it's slower paced and not as intriguing, you get a few great scenes, it's still a really good season, but it's nowhere near as strong as the other seasons.
Season 3 Part 2.. wow, this season was the best, the action, the plot, everything. Midnight Sun and Hero are some of the best episodes of anime I've ever seen. Again, my only complaint is the Colossal's CGI, but also the sizing on the scene in which Eren grapples onto Bertholt's ankle is laughable, though that was taken from the Manga, if anything. The Levi vs Beast Titan scene is great, but I can't give WIT credit for that, as they hired freelancers who took 4 months for that scene. 10/10 season.
Season 4 is great from the get-go, good animation from MAPPA, and the CGI they used on the Jaw and Armour looks so good, not so much Zeke's Beast, but good on those two. You immediately understand all of the characters, Gabi, Falco, Udo and Zofia are entertaining throughout the whole of the Marley Arc. Episode 5's declaration of war soundtrack was a little underwhelming, but it was still a great scene. Episode 6 isn't good in terms of CGI, I'm not going to lie, as much as I love MAPPA, the CGI on Eren's Titan looked stupid, and the Eren vs Warhammer Titan fight was nothing on previous seasons' fights, it almost looks cartoonish. Everything else about the episode is great, the arrival of the Scouts has my favourite ODM Gear scenes in the whole series. I don't even like Mikasa, but the scene she arrived in was so hype. Episode 7 is better, Eren's Titan still looks weird, but the arrival of Armin and the airship are some good moments, a really exciting episode. Episode 8 is just wow, the Eren vs Reiner fight was underwhelming, but I knew that going in because of the Manga. Sasha's death scene was sad, too, the reactions of the characters made sense, and Gabi really stood out this episode, she stole the show through the whole battle, but especially in this episode. The rest of the season is great, too, but I wanna talk about Episodes 13, 14 and 15, the Levi and Zeke conflict was great, animation, and Zeke's flashback episode was so good, and how the explosion and whatnot was done was great.
I'm making a different paragraph to talk about Episode 16, it's a good episode, but it looks so different, not in a good or bad way, it just does, Pieck looks.. odd (I can't describe it) in the Gabi - Pieck - Eren scene. The final few minutes are perfect, the tension and the soundtrack is great through Pieck pointing at Eren, Galliard's no-longer-CGI Titan bursting through the ground and to Eren's transformation. Eren's Titan looks better without the CGI, and I can't wait to see what this new style brings to Season 4 Part 2 in Winter 2022!
Ex-Arm (2021)
I think my eyes are permanently damaged.
I can not stress this enough, the animation is pure trash, think of the worst thing you've ever watched, but twice as bad. The plot is interesting, but is ruined by the way it looks, it is unwatchable, if I could give it 0 stars, I would.
In anime, you see CGI, good CGI, most of the time, and EVERYTHING is CGI in this series, it is not good CGI at all. The fights are so bad, the movements are robotic and the actually decent voice acting does not line up with the movement of the characters' mouths.
Save your eyes and your sanity, don't watch this, if you want to see the plot, read the manga.
