Blonde (2022)
It took 15 years to make this movie?
I love Marilyn Monroe and was looking forward to this movie. I didn't hear anything really about it. I really cannot believe what I just watched. It was awful. I mean AWFUL! Ana definitely resembled Marilyn the most of any actress that portrayed her before but she was terrible. She was so inconsistent. The second half of the movie it's like she was just phoning it in, her cuban accent was really noticeable starting when she first met her second husband.
She can cry and act needy, it wasn't a good performance.
This movie thinks it's smarter than it is. It is dull boring and all over the place. It's not even the Oscar bait they want it to be.
And YES, I get that this was supposed to be a nightmare.
The only consistency is Marilyn is insane. Huge crying fits, being sexually assaulted throughout and treated inhumane. NOT one scene of Marilyn being charming or happy. It's entirely pure misery. This movie is messy and all over the place.
This movie was a disgrace to a beloved,
One of a kind icon, I hope Marilyn haunts every person that made this awful, degrading piece of trash for the rest of time.
The Imperfects (2022)
The first episode gave me a headache but then...
Literally this show's first episode gave me a headache. The first 10 minutes specifically with that punk band and all that off key screaming. But after the second episode it became enjoyable enough to binge a couple episodes a day and it seemed to get better in the second half of episodes.
Tilda who started the season giving me a migraine ended up becoming my favorite character. The actor who played Juan started out with overacting the role but also became a likable character by the end, they both seemed to find their stride.
The powers of the main 3 were cool but the dr hekyl and hyde Dr and that whole story arc was the weak part of the show for me.
Gone Girl (2014)
Pretty good until second half
The ending was a big let down & felt unsatisfying on many levels. I thought he'd kill his psycho wife and get off because you know, double jeopardy and all. He was practicing his "my wife is murderous psychopath" speech and then he chickens out. Lame
Also, I realized what a vile sociopath Neil Patrick Harris is in real life when he made a Birthday Cake with Amy Winehouse's dead corpse and posed for pictures with it. Gross. He's also gay and isn't a good enough actor to fake romantic chemistry with an actress, let alone we're supposed to believe he's having sex with her.
I knocked it down for casting NPH & the equally nuts Emily Ratatouille, but her part was more believable I suppose as the clingy, shallow, brain-dead side piece.
Is it weird that I kinda get 'Gone Girl' relationship vibes from Ben and JLo? Maybe that's just me?
We Broke Up (2021)
Record Breaking Movie!
Three minutes and twenty-two seconds...
The amount of time it took before I turned this movie off.
Literally the worst 3 minutes and 22 seconds of any movie I've ever seen.
The Gray Man (2022)
I liked it
It's not a complex storyline so not much too dissect. This is the type of movie that usually would star B-C List actors. The A list talent of Ryan, Chris, Billy Bob and Alfre is what made this movie good. Ryan, I like having him back and he was great as an action role. He had some funny one liners, if you like a dry sense of humor like I do. Chris I heard, almost passed on this role because he didn't want to play a villain. He was kinda great as a psychopath creep with a 70's porn star look going on. I didn't know that was Billy Bob, I kept thinking how his voice sounded like Billy Bob but he looked unrecognizable, I don't usually care for him as an actor but I liked him in this role.
The only bad acting was that dude that was in Bridgerton. His acting was so bad...odd casting choice as he basically has been in one season of a Netflix show, he wasn't in the same league as his co-stars and it really showed.
For Netflix quality, this is about as good as it gets.
Cinematic quality it probably would of bombed in the theaters
I liked it, it was better than I expected. If you like action, CIA, or fugitive movies, this movie is all of that.
Irma Vep (2022)
Wanted to like it...but nope.
The lead, Irma Vep actress, her assistant are basically either sleepwalking or are zombies. There is a boring, dull performance by them, that they seem to be phoning it in. The movie within this show is dull and uninteresting, the weird catsuit she puts on to walk through walls is just weird. There is no real connection by the actors who are playing these characters. The lead actress is miscast, she doesn't have the acting chops, the charisma or believability of being a character who is a famous A-list movie star. She sleeps or makes out with pretty much everyone and not only lacks chemistry with the rest of the cast but is so not sexy or passionate when it's clear that it was meant to come across that way. Not only that but she kisses with a ridged mouth closed and makes pecking sounds...it really annoyed me. I really don't see the point to any of this show to be honest, the weird, creepy thing she has going on with 2 of her exes is just, well, weird.
If there was not anything new that I haven't already watched, I wouldn't of made it this far.
Chloe (2022)
Nah, wasn't good.
Weak, slow, boring and had a terrible ending.
Wasn't into it. So your former friend that you currently obsessively stalk, along with all her friends, dies and you graduate into stalking her friends in real life under a fake identity.
What could go wrong??
Literally everything in this series.
Marry Me (2022)
Meh
Not that I went into watching this thinking it would be some sort of cinematic masterpiece but I did love me some Rom-Coms back in the mid aughts. I have been hoping they'd make a return and was excited for JLo to bring them back. I think JLo had some cute Rom-Coms back in the day and really the only thing that she did well IMO were a handful of movies-mostly cheesy but enjoyable Rom-Coms. Well she blew it.
And casting the crooked nosed Owen Wilson as the devoted single dad love interest? I am not a fan of him but I read somewhere he doesn't acknowledge his daughter?? Not only is he wrong for the part because he's not attractive and he's awkward but knowing how he feels about his own daughter, I couldn't wrap my head around why the casting department thought it was a good idea to cast him outside his genre as a single dad of a daughter.
Although he was a better choice than Armie Hammer who was originally cast in this movie, they should of kept looking.
As far as JLo, girl needs to get back in the game, she was a little rusty.
The Princess (2022)
Reminds me of a Stephen Segal movie. With swords
I really wanted to enjoy this movie. Unfortunately for me, I really did not enjoy this movie.
It is really bad when all but 4 supporting characters have actual names. The lead & her parents are just called "the princess", the king, the queen. Absolutely no character development for the unnamed characters (or even the ones with names) until a quick flashback more than 30 minutes into the movie. I think the first time the main character says anything other than grunting is in that flashback.
The main actress Joey King is completely miscast. A 4'8" young girl with no combat experience is hard to believe as a kung fu sword fighter who single handedly karate chops and cuts her way through hundreds of nasty men and saves the entire kingdom all while not one of her loved ones dies in the process on her very first 'real' battle outside of practice swordplay in the woods. Her acting contains grunting and fake limping and seemed to forget that she broke her finger/hand in the first five minutes of the movie and got stabbed twice (with hardly any blood) but picks up a sword and fights for the entirety of this movie.
That wasn't the worst of it. The very last scene of the obese errand boy who was sent to check on her at the top of the tower comes out panting and sweaty and he has a full mouth of BRACES????
Like honestly? Pretty sure they didn't even brush their teeth in Medieval period but a dude has dental work that hasn't been invented yet. Hmmm Perhaps he was a time traveler. We'll never know because there was no character development in this entire movie, which makes it impossible to care or root for anyone in this movie.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Bummed it's over
What a fantastic show! Man, I loved it! It kept my attention throughout the entire 5 seasons, which for me GOT took almost to the end of season 1 to get into & Vikings was fantastic in season 1 & went downhill in later seasons. I won't get into how bad I think the Vikings spinoff, Vallhara is.
It is a captivating story based on history and also a really good show, with interesting characters and a captivating story, which is rarity in today's television streaming era-and YES, I'm talking to you Netflix.
Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
Lower your expectations, this is a low-rent, history-butchering knock off
I really enjoyed the first couple seasons of the OG Vikings. The show was exciting and well written -until the last season. The timing was good and plenty of time to build anticipation because of the length of the season and what used to be the standard 22 episodes.
The real Vikings were pretty fascinating and the original show did such a great job of showing what their daily lives and routines looked like. How they hunt, groom, cook, make textiles, swords, how they traveled & the obstacles along the way, it added such a captivating element to learning about an ancient culture. The show took it's time with the small details while at the same time kept the pace flowing and interesting.
So FF to this spin off...the show doesn't have that same magic of the first. Literally, i thought, "really, that's it??" after episode 8. There was not enough time for either character or plot development-this type of genre with a large cast is NOT meant to be a "streaming 8" season. GOT, Vikings, would of never worked in that structure and I am wondering WTF Netflix thought the spinoff should be an 8 episode season. This show would of done better if it aired on Network TV as it does not do much to get the viewer's invested in the characters & the show. This will never have a 'cult' like status like OG Vikings did. It can't when you can watch an entire season in a day.
Also, not one scene of showing Viking life or what changes & advancements in the 100 years since the original show took place. It is violent and action packed & I did enjoy the show, it just should of had 3x the episodes this season. It went by too quick-I barely remember any of the character's names & felt hugely unsatisfied with the last episode because it did not leave a big impression to eagerly wait an entire year or two for a second season.
The same set is used as the OG Vikings which was cool if you liked the original.
None of that magic or insight of how Vikings lived or Viking Culture and folklore.
This had potential, what is a huge disappointment.
Wish they would of just named it Valhalla & dropped the Vikings' association, they name drop characters from The OG Vikings and use the same location -(although it looks CGI, probably not filmed on location like the original series. ) other than that it is nothing like the original show, from the development, the acting, the writing, the historical element (even with dramatic liberties) the costumes & attention to even small details, the pacing-everything is different in a very subpar and generic way. Also, the only interesting character is Greenland dude. All the other actors do not belong in their roles, none of them are believable as Vikings and none of the actors are particularly charismatic or talented.
I Want You Back (2022)
Already forgot most of it
It's been a week, maybe two since I watched this and I've already forgot most of it except how dumb it was. The swap spy on the exes angle kinda creeped me out tbh. Both lead actors had about the same charisma as a pool noodle. I wouldn't watch another movie with either actor as a lead again.
As far as plot-it's a rom-com, you get it. No surprise endings or twist in the R. C. formula. But the early aughts did rom-coms better-the cast here isn't talented or charismatic enough to care about these characters-in fact I just kept thinking how dumb the entire premise was and how this is the first and last time I will watch Jenny Slate in a movie-she has no business being the lead as she can't carry a movie & is really unattractive to look at.
Yes it just said that, get over it.
Yellowjackets (2021)
Finally a unique story not done before.
I hadn't heard anything about the show before I watched it because it comes on after Dexter True Blood. Immediately I was hooked after episode 1. The season was a slow burn but still had the ability to keep you interested. Episode 9 was the best & gave the most answers to season-long mysteries but the the finale (Episode 10) was the worst. So underwhelmed with the finale. I felt no emotions from a character death in the finale because of the manner in which the death occurred & the less talented youngsters of the cast reactions to the death (a couple of the young ones are really talented tho)
Juliette Lewis is NEXT level talent! She had a scene in a motel room and.....wow, just wow!!
Christina Ricci is another top talent & her hilarious yet creepy twisted character is the craziest but the most fun to watch.
The finale to me was my one gripe with this show! I love it but did not care for the finale. It was predictable, underwhelming and at most maybe answered 2 out of many WTF mysteries of the show & for such a slow burn of a season, that kinda soured it for me in a way. The cliffhanger was so mild & half of it I had already predicted but overall the finale lacked any shock or satisfying answers to really be excited about Season 2 or about having to wait for a year for another season. I don't think that is a great way to maintain momentum in between long waits in between seasons for a show that only gives us 10 episodes that finishes a season with way more unanswered questions than it gives us excitement to eagerly await another season.
Other than the last episode, I really enjoyed this show. The throwback music, the excellent adult cast and their younger selves and how trauma can lead to complete lunacy that tows the line between where the mind goes vs supernatural elements but never actually crosses the line to supernatural, very well done storytelling, aside from the absurd finale.
If I had known, I would of waited until the series ended so I could binge watch the series because I had more excitement from week to week between episodes than I have now, after that finale for season 2.
Chesapeake Shores (2016)
This new season is the best season of the series
The 10/10 is ONLY for the current season, starting with episode 3 and with the new cast additions. Prior seasons are just bland.
I started watching this show from the beginning but it became boring and honestly Jesse Metcalf was kinda weird and I didn't enjoy his character and the relationship with Abby. It became unenjoyable to watch and I didn't watch the entire last season with him in it. I heard him in an interview and his real life vibe just seemed, ugh I dunno unlikeable & he's not that good of an actor for me to forget when I'm watching the show and he's playing Trace. So I lost interest and stopped watching the show.
Recently I came across the new Chesapeake shores promo ad and noticed Robert Buckley on the cover so then when I googled it and realized Jesse Metcalf left the show and they replaced him with Robert Buckley, I gave it a go again.
Wow, now I am a fan of Robert Buckley, but I did NOT expect him to completely revive this show into something it's never been.....hilarious, lighthearted and interesting. He plays the Evan character brilliantly and changes the entire dynamic and tone of the show. I have never laughed while watching this show, it's never been funny, but man, Evan is so random and the hard laughs come out of nowhere. I just love it. Also, nice to see the rest of the characters lighten up and not be so intense with his character's addition. I think this show has gotten better on a level that is almost unheard of in a longtime running show and after a main character is replaced.
Hats off. I really. Really love the "new" show. Robert Buckley is a gem & Abby is more likable with their banter for some reason. Greyson Holt's character is basically a sweet version of Trace so I hope he is not in the picture much longer, Abby is real boring with him.
If I had to complain it'd be that there were only 10 episodes and since the show didn't really get good until episode 3, it seemed all the good stuff was too short of a season.
Queen of the South (2016)
One of television's BEST!
I've loved this show from day one. Every year I excitedly wait for the new season to air. I watch a lot of shows and Queen of the South has been one of the small handful of shows that keeps you fully invested without ever disappointing. I just read that season 5 is going to be the final season and in the history of all the shows I've ever watched, this show is only one of two ever that I'm really not ready for it to be over. A lot of great shows start to lose that magic or addicting factor by the later seasons or the stories seem to be a little lazy, predictable and by the time the last episode is aired, you're ok with it and ready to move on. Queen of the South is NOT that. Season 5 has been so intense, still so addicting and I really am not looking forward to the end. This is the hardest show to not be able to binge because you crave more by the end of each episode. This is the best show on cable for sure and absolutely is superior to anything on network tv. I wish this show would last a lot longer; but the writers, cast, and it seems, everyone involved with this show really are going all out with this season to make sure they go out on top. The action, stunts, acting, twists and turns and excitement really are outstanding this season.
The Equalizer (2021)
Shaky start, found it's footing, lost it & now, kinda love it!
It's great to see Queen Latifah back on the screen. I enjoyed the pilot but wasn't completely sold On the dynamic watching a kick ass woman who was a single mom but then part I didn't care for was that her kid was a rebelling teenage brat. The second episode found its footing and I really enjoyed the episode and the show after that point. Queen Latifa is a surprising choice for the lead in this series but her tough but soft charisma actually works great for this series. I love it, I hope it sticks around for many more seasons to come!
***Had to come back to edit...although I previously liked watching Chris Noth in roles, now I can't.
Also lowered the rating because although I do really like the show, the PC side plots are really too much. The daughter went from an unlikable little brat to now a wonderfully behaved teen? I guess it's the actress I don't like, wish it was cast with someone else.
Other than that, I love all the other characters and although it's kinda unbelievable for Queen Latifah to be so skilled at fighting that she can knock out cold 20 cartel members at the same time, for some reason I love watching it happen. Lol. I do watch this show every week, I hope it gets renewed-there's not a lot of network shows I watch but this one I like.
The CIA episode with the guy who was on chicago fire was one of the season's best! Please stick with the CIA storylines as that is where this show shines. The episodes with the PC story arcs give off an awkward, forced, boring, preachy and inorganic vibe. The spy team is what makes this show great!
