Harvey (1950)
if you only get to see one Jimmy Stewart film in your life, let it be this one !!!!
26 August 2001
Harvey is a fantastic film... there are not really words that describe it... It is a most beautiful but hilarious film...

Jimmy Stewart is absolutely outstanding and incredibly sincere and lovable as eccentric Elwood P Dowd. i find the way he always opens doors and speaks to this invisible rabbit is absolutely wonderful... there is no way that you could not beleive that there really is a rabbit there because Jimmy Stewart makes it sooo believable, and thats what wonderful about it, it's sooo real , you can at times almost see Harvey the rabbit, just by the ways Jimmy Stewart acts around him and talks to him... it really makes you believe that there is someone or at least something there.

Another heartwarming thing about the film is Elwood P Dowd's attitude to life and those around him... he thinks nothing of asking complete strangers like taxi drivers or people he meets in bars to come over to his house and have tea with him. Everything he says is spoken with such sincerity that you honestly wish that you too knew someone as lovely as Elwood P Dowd. He is so gentle and kind and honest that you just cannot fail to fall instantly in love with this character.

This film is about as loveable as they possibly come, once you've seen it once, you will absolutely and completely fall in love with it. It's beautiful and also very poignant and meaningful... Elwood P Dowd says a lot of things that really make sense... so listen hard !!

my favourite quote is ... ' in this life you have to be oh so smart or oh so pleasent, for years i was smart... now i recommend pleasent.'

but there are some many other wonderful lines from that film which i just can't remember right now.... see just another great reason for you all to go and watch this film !!

An absolute must see, for Jimmy fans and non Jimmy fans alike... i guarantee that any non jimmy lover will be completed converted after watching this... you cannot fail to fall absolutely and hopelessly in love with Jimmy Stewart/Elwood P Dowd... The wonderful thing is that you can imagine the real Jimmy Stewart being exactly the same out of character...

an absolute must see !

A terrific Cary Grant comedy !!!!
25 August 2001
This film is an absolute must see for all Cary Grant fans !!! It is a superb twist of romance and comedy.. although surprisingly it's not Cary whose on course for the romance, rather he plays the matchmaker !! and wonderful he is at it too !!!

There are many highlights to this film... watch out for the way Cary talks his way into sharing Samantha Eggar's flat, and when he runs in the race in his boxer shorts and vest !!! (a hilarious moment) and finally the most heart rending moment when he's outside at the end of the film and he lets the shutters go up between the two lovebirds, allowing them to be be together !!! Will definitely make you say aww !!!

This film is absolutely brilliant and definitely in my top 5 Cary Grant films !!

a must for Cary Grant fans !!!!

The Wrong Man (1956)
An Highly Recommended Hitchcock Classic !!
25 August 2001
Before i watched The Wrong Man, a lot of people were saying bad things about it, saying it was one of hitchcock's masterpieces gone wrong... and that the acting was wooden and the rest of it, but whatever you do, do not listen to any negative comments about this film!! it is absolutely brilliant !!! It was Hitchcocks first and only documentary style thriller and it works beautifully i think !!! It's based on a true story and i love the opening sequence when Hitchcock tells you about it being a true story... it is very different to any other Hitchcock film you've ever and i think will ever see, but it's brilliant. In my opinion he should have done more films like this.... Also Henry Fonda is absolutely wonderful as Manny... the whole way he handles the situation is wonderful to watch.... Also Vera Miles is amazing as the distressed wife... her perhaps best performance on screen !!

Over all my last words to you would be ... don't listen to negative reports go out and see this film !! it's brilliant and definitely a new and unique Hitchcock Film !!!!!!!!

A must see for all Hitchcock fans !!!

Rope (1948)
10/10
An absolute classic !!!
25 August 2001
Rope is an absolutely brilliant Hitchcock classic, and rates in my tp 5 Hitchcock films... Most people think that Rope is too static and a little boring and slow paced.. i think quite the reverse... it is a masterpiece !! The whole film is set in one appartment, that for a start is genius !! then there are some absolutely fantastic shots... the best being the kitchen scene where the door swings open the shut to reveal Brandon dropping the rope into the drawer !!! very clever shot !!

Apart of the editing and filming being fantastic... the actors are fantastic, and very well cast !! Farley Granger is fantastic as weak Phillip Morgan who can't handle the guilt of killing their school mate... and John Dall is excellent as the confident and opinionated Brandon !!! But by far the best cast actor in that film, is the ever wonderful James Stewart as Rupert Cadell !! his whole attitude and manner are absolutely fantastic, and his finishing speech after discovering the body is definitely worth a listen !!!

I would certainly recommend this film because it's brilliant, a wonderful Hitchcock film which deserves a lot more praise that it gets !!!

a must see !
