Rocky (1976)
Best movie ever made
Title says it all. I believe it is the best moive ever made. I said it when I was 8 in 1976 and I say it now at 53 in 2022. The beauty, sadness, risk and triumph shown are surpassed by no film. The boxing takes a back seat to the love story between Rocky and Adrian. "I'm gonna kiss ya.... you don't have to kiss me back if you don't wanna but I'm gonna kiss ya". Absolutely perfect in every way. I also cannot stress how important Bill Conti's score is to this movie. It wouldn't work without it. Philadelphia Morning is one of the most beautifully sad songs ever written. Great script plus great production makes it the only 10 star review I will give.
The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)
I just don't get it
I can't back this movie at all. Saw it in the theater and watched it twice more since then. Horribly paced movie with hard to follow dialog. No character really speaks to you. It's all "Is She or Isn't She" which bored me rather quickly. I wish I did get it but I don't. Ari Aster it is not.
Model Home (2018)
A well done movie
I found the premise of this interesting enough to watch without looking at the reviews. Glad I did. This movie has a lot going for it. The sense of isolation is everywhere. The landscape almost becomes another character. The performances while limited to a few roles are very well done. There is something about this movie. Very hard to put my finger in but it works. Also hard to classify what genre it fits in. Much much better than a lot of fodder out there.
Baa Baa Black Sheep (1976)
Great show with a little problem
I watched this show first run in the 70s as a kid. 7 to 8 I was and this was my show. I played Ba Ba Black Sheep at school substituting Coursairs for swings. I was always Pappy. Hey, it was my show. I loved it and remember a trip to see my aunt in Denver. I thought I had missed the show and broke down. Turns out there is this thing called Time Zones I didn't know anything about this. I was just a kid.
But, as a kid this show was a horrible example for kids my age, as were most of the shows at that time. Hard drinking and smoking and fighting were normal. So as a kid that was what adults do. So when I wanted to be an adult at 13 what did do? Yep. All those things. I'm not saying tv caused me issues but now in my 50s I'm rewatching these shows and see a pattern. Tv in the 60s and 70s were a very bad example for young kids.
This show stoked my love for World War II aviation and aircraft that burns today. So it wasn't all bad. But I can't be alone in my thoughts here. Still a great show. Holds up today pretty decent.
