A Man in Full (2024)
Budget Billions/House Of Cards
This entire farce is like ordering Billions from Wish. Directing is weak, acting sleepy and half hearted, writing is a mess and it's looks like it was filmed by amateurs. I can't understand how a "limited series" got fractured into so many pieces in so few episodes. It's like a kid when it's had too much candy. It's so contrived and ridiculous that the only way anybody agreed to be attached to had to given wheelbarrows of cash. There is zero nuance to it, zero believability and zero excitement. With some really strong series that Netflix has produced lately, guess they were bound to throw a gutter ball. I only give it a 3 because Cherry Valance is in it. Disappointing.
Catching Killers (2021)
Strange Angle...
I've gotta agree with the reviewers pointing out that these featured cops seem way too driven by emotion and the attention paid to them by the show's producers. It really takes away from the telling of the events of each of these investigations. Almost to a man/woman, they are unconvincing in their self-proclaimed prowess as investigators as they prattle on regarding their feelings in the midst of major developments in the cases. Its maybe doesn't cross the line of unprofessional but it definitely walks up and toes it. Its a shame really because the series features stories that you may not have heard before and attempts to shed new light on ones you may be familiar with.
Prey (2022)
Make Up Your Own Mind
Obviously people have some strong feelings about the premise of this movie. I watched the Comanche version because I thought it would be a more immersive experience. I believe it was. While there were a few elements presented/choices made with the protagonist Naru I disliked, that's all, only a very few. I felt the cinematography was amazing. Predator was as savage but not quite as challenged as we have previously seen. It was well paced. The acting was very good and finally the script was incredible. This was a wonderful homage to the original and rightfully belongs in Predator lore. Give it a watch with an open mind and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Moonfall (2022)
Decent Bit of Popcorn Sci-Fi
I get it's formulaic. I get we've seen't this before. The acting is good, writing is hilarious and heart warming. Effects are primo. An enjoyable watch.
Vigil (2021)
Cop on sub bossing around the enlisted...
A cop. On a a Naval vessel. Conducting a murder inquiry. Regardless of the premise being so idiotic, I gave this a chance. There isn't a single believable character in this entire farce. They interact according to the tired formula viewers are getting crammed down our throats lately. Acting is subpar. The writing is an admirable attempt to make this nonsense somewhat coherent but falls flat. The boat and its special effects are laughable. Skip it.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Nonsensical Rubbish
I'm all for satire but I've seen't better caricatures at a Midwestern county fair. This was a lazy portrayal of stereotypes that ultimately falls expectedly on its face. It's rarely clever or comedic. Every performance, save Rob Morgan's, is so uncomfortably forced that you wonder how a roster of accomplished actors and actresses got duped into participating. I'm sure they were told how nuanced the performances were shaping up as filming progressed but it truly was an insincere mess.
