Re watching this after years, and Napoleon
14 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It was another time, far from now, 2014 to be more precise, and true, we were under the spell of the name behind the movie.

Now the spell has vanished, movie after movie from Gladiator on have proved to me that you need more than a name to be a great director, to tell a good story.

And watching this after all these years, I'm surprised I didn't banish it from my list of: "is this is on I'll watch." At least I never bought it.

Going beyond how inaccurate this seems, as it is a tale, not history like Napoleon, the movie seems rushed, the characters don't seem likable, things go from "you're sick" to "you're dead," "I met you so now we are married," and more egregious of all "we are brothers" to "I will believe what a thives tells me and cut this woman's arm because even though you have always been my brother the plot needs to move, baby!"

I'm trying
6 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really am trying to finish this movie. Is it this bad, or is it the dialog? The by the numbers character development?

Why is this movie so so boring. I've started/stop 4 times already. I am 2/3 done I think.... but I am so bored.

I will keep writing because I'm 333 characters short, but there's not much to say.

What is the purpose of the movie? Why was the American such an ass? Not that I wanted him to be funny, but shouldn't the local be the ass? Is there a local character? They seem to be all foreigners?

Maybe the one that died, but I believe he was Italian? I don't even know, because I couldn't care less for this people.

I'll try to forget the movie, then maybe I'll be able to finish it.

Don't mistake this for a good movie, even if you like mountain climbing, this lacks story, you could put the characters in any type of setting, they are that generic.

What I learned from watching so far...
22 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Probably will update when we finish the show... but so far I gather, if by any chance I end up having to save some one, or administer aid of some kind, I'll just walk away from the situation.

There is no good deed that goes unpunished. What were they supposed to do? Get Hulk to move all thise people? The government didn't send enough help, so what? Should they die just to prove they tried to do something?

Or if they leave, and leave the patients how they were, what then? Let them to starve and die suffering?

This was a natural disaster, there were few choices at the end, with not enough help to save everyone.

It's been a while that we've found a good comedy
10 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The actors are great, and the comedy is spot on. At first the quirkiness of all of them was a little strange, but we've grown to like them so much.

I think we're half way through the show at the moment, and is sad that comedies are always so short (as in the episode length is short), I really don't want it to end. [Edit: not half way through the first season, as seasons are so short! 6 episodes only, but great episodes! Great second season BTW.)

There are some jokes that maybe outsiders from Australia have to look up, or younger generations, but we get most of it. (For example the thing with answering the phone with a quote so you get a price, I doubt that's still being done worldwide, but we use to have a similar show here that did that when you answered the phone, but that's just a small example.)

Anyway, hope to catch a second season soon!

The other review was right....
22 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am extremely angry. To the families of the victims, sorry you're going through this.

I would like to see someone do a follow-up on that second district court of appeal.

Where they just waiting on whatever time had to run out to not have to do anything to this hospital? To the people that are accountable for the hurt they caused.

"Follow the money" is one of my favorite quotes, and is time someone did that on these cases.

With some digging they already found that the hospital did charge the insurance company for a treatment that did not take place, or that at least they were denying it needed to be administered.

We have "doctor 1" and "doctor 2" talking about another death. So, how many more people have to die for money not to matter this much? Well, my instinct tells me they won't do anything to stop this, someone has to bring this to the light.

Not much on history
7 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
More so in story, and very dramatically "acted." They should really make a documentary on the lives of these egyptologists, but not call this a documentary on the lost pyramid and then just ramble on and on about the people that work these sites.

Let me clear this up, if you had made a documentary on their lives and the ways egyptologist work, and how difficult it has been to get a foot hold in a foreign space of study, fine, set the documentary as that.

If you're going to market this as the history of Huni and his lost pyramid talk about that.

Doing both made it slow on history, and not interesting on the story of their work. Besides that, the "speeches" they make with each artifact, what for? "I felt like I was thousands year ago..." (or something like that) Well, I bet, it is a tomb, from a thousand years ago, not a coffee shop.

Save your time, watch something else
10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At least the episodes are short. I have not read the novel, but if it resembles this story, I wouldn't read that either.

The protagonist has so many issues, she should be in therapy instead of trying to justify what has happened during all this episodes.

The husband is an ass, a rat, he abandons ship without an explanation (explanation that should have been done before they were married) and then of course all goes out the rails because she's trying to find him.

The daughter is a brat, treats the stepmother like crap, for nothing but loving her dad, what a joke. Stepmother is not even strict or mean, just loves her dad, so she's evil. How many people would like a situation where the stepmother actually cares for them.

The cast is fine, the story is stupid. The ending is obvious, or at least is the best solution, why would the protagonist have to stop being who she is, doing what she loves, being well known, to go into witsec for people like this? Sure, she's trying to take care of daughter even though there's no real love there. Therapy man, you need therapy.

And daughter likes to be an actress, because rat dad didn't tell her she can't be known, or he doesn't think she can actually be known because she's a bad actress or something? Then what, when she became famous, what would he have done to keep his family from contacting her then?

M. Night Shyamalan how it should always be...
20 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had 0 faith in this movie, cero, zilch, nada. So many times already I've watched a MNS movie to just come out of the theater disappointed that I no longer go to the theater to watch his movies, I can not will myself to make the trip, this was no different. So we waited patiently for it and rented it today.

This is what MNS should always be.

Great acting, small cast, each bringing an almost perfect performance. Is no wonder they made us feel their pledge was almost real.

Great ambience, the location was claustrophobic even in open space, lovely photography, the colors help transform most scenes, an accomplishment.

The story is very compelling, not complex at all, with obvious doubt at the premise, each character has to come to grips with what's been asked of them, until the bitter end.

I'll probably re-watch it so much to find enough flaws to down rate eventually, but I'm excited to re watch, which I haven't done in so long with one of his movies, so this review is my first impressions of watching a movie that really was worth the time to watch.

So many movies...
15 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This has so many movies in it, embedded into it, we just started naming what came to mind after a while: "look, just like in X movie," "see, the same as in Y movie," and so on. Could make a fun drinking game, which in turn could help this movie a lot!

Then I was told this was supposed to be the script for the second "Independence Day."

It all clicked. Sure, as a second part and being in the universe of "ID" this plot make more sense, not a lot, but it could be a valid part of that time line. (BtW "ID2" is so bad, that maybe anything could have been a better idea.)

But as a new movie, on its own, it catastrophically bad, (makes "2012" seem possible).

It gets worse when at the end it seems to tease at a second installment. And they say Marvel movies are bad for cinema.

Besides the dialog being inferior, the actors just seem resigned to spew what they have been told to say, there's no real connection with the audience, even by the leads, who are great actors; less by the newcomers, which pass without importance.

The amount of green screen used is outstanding, sure, when "in the Moon" we get it, but even when outside they couldn't find some place barely suitable for a few takes? Probably had to do a lot of reshoots, or had time restraints, otherwise is not understandable, nor acceptable.

I may watch it again, only to write down how many movies I can find, like "Where is Waldo," but with movie clichés and tropes.

Doesn't hold a candle to the 1984 film...
9 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
That being said, I'm really at a loss for words this time.

One would assume this could have been a good enough film, not great, not amazing, let's just aim for good... but no, the dialog is so "tired"?

The last "stand" between the evil woman and the girl is awful, it doesn't convey anything but boredom. She isn't scary, she isn't convincing, she isn't even evil enough, she just spewed some words strung together that are supposed to what? Convince the girl, us, who? Boring words with no emphasis at all.

Mother is so inconsistent, daughter should learn to use her powers, but she doesn't practice, so we the "bad guy" comes around she's such an easy target that is almost ludicrous. She manages to throw a couple of frames around, for what?

Bad guy kills her, of course... is he supposed to be dangerous? What exactly are he's powers? Good aim? Well, so so aim actually, and passing for the dad later on, but no really explained, and has a what now? Obligation to look after the girl for killing her mother and capturing her father? And girl just accepted going with him at the end? What? A cat (he she they? Aren't cats "it"? Ah, wrong book...) scratches her and she mostly blew it up, a classmate bullied her and she exploded the stall door, but the guy who killed her mom gets a pass? She probably did like her (sarcasm).

Dad just like moves the plot along, badly... this movie is so strange as it is slow and fast in all the wrong places, they only things we are sure off is what dad does, because it seems daughter can do a little of everything? But dad does little tbh, but at the same time he has the most time on screen as girl? Or was it just an illusion? Not sure.

Girl is just boring too, she has kind of a superhero montages, the classic let's gather our weapons/powers before our final confrontation, which makes little sense, and is quite the fire hazard small film if you wanted to use it during fire season, I mean the amount of dry leaves and bushes around her during her practice? She doesn't even care to practice somewhere else? She knows what she can do, what fire can do, right?

Anyway the final showdown is so boring, a couple of mediocre men try to stop her in very mediocre manners... is this a movie for children? Only the guys at the end with fire suits really give her trouble, but she couldn't hack it, had to be saved, why wouldn't she just boiled their bodies in the suits as a final empowered move? But no, bad guy now turns good guy and saves the day... vomit.

Unwatchable?
30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Most of this series seems stupid and convoluted, just a series of unimaginative characters taken out ot the book on how to write a mediocre spy novel 101.

The wife is unbearably dull, she ticks every box of the jealous woman, the woman who needs to know every aspect of his husband past, and when told what's happening she won't listen to what's been explained and twists the narrative to serve her jealousy instead of looking in.

Protagonist is not much better, but at least is on the dark as to why he's in this position, and then tries and does everything to find the daughter.

Daughter is the plane teen who doesn't listen and is gloomy not to the point of dressing black, but to be used as a stressful tool against the parents.

Boy is an unimaginative piece on the chess board, only there to make it a 4 family unit.

Ex lover/spy is trying to get red off her ledger, like it should be, what else could we be up against, and of course she has manipulated everything for 15 years to get her man in the position she needs to get things done.

Ex friend/CIA came to probably cover something that happened 15 years ago, but maybe she's not in the know, I'm not sure yet, but she manipulates and says incoherent things as dialog, changing from they are not your children to did he really said that. So anything that's needed as long as it suits the scene.

Rest of the people, as far as we can see are there to move accordingly as each scene progresses. Even C is just another bad guy at least in the beginning, not sure if it'll turn farther down the line.

What am I watching!?
26 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the most Michael Bay movies I've ever watched... what is happening with the crazy online operation? This is an insane movie, if you're planning on watching it please forget about reality and just enjoy the shots (the use of the camera) and the action, there's nothing here that makes sense.

The plot is just a car chase in an ambulance while trying to keep the cop alive and evade police. Most of what seems to be happening here is trying new ways to shoot a movie.

Are they using drones? I'm not sure, but it sure seems like it.

And you just wait for the Transformers to show up any second, the cops look like Decepticons XD.

It's not even funny...
23 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I mean, if it was made for a joke, maybe... was it made to promote turism to the locations? I hope so. Well, after covid one assumes that turism has declined in many places, maybe that's what this show is all about.

Because is not for hunting ghosts, or proving they exist, no siree bob.

As for murderers clipping newspapers and saving their "accomplishments" under the house, maybe even living there and escaping through the sewer, sure! Why not... at this point in the narrative sure you found a perfectly preserved piece of newspaper...

BTW, what was all the crazy thing with the medium and not wanting to do a mirror scrying session, if she didn't want to, fine, but what was all that "bro this, bro that" speech? Was it to convey that the spirits were influencing their behavior? Badly done, it came thru as just some petty tantrum.

I hoped to like this one, did not.

Season 1, Episode 2

What...
22 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I usually don't review episodes of TV series, but this one is special... so at the beginning of the episode this "paranormal researchers" go down a tunnel, they play it as the most scary thing ever, isn't this your job? Should you not be thrilled to be here investigating?

Anyway, so one is commenting on "the action", and goes into this strange "if the door closed we could be here forever"... what? You are on a TV show for crying out loud... no, you won't get stuck down there, someone will let you people out... but sure, create fake tension for the children I guess, no adult here is buying it...

Then, while in the tunnel another one views a shadow at the entrance, where the door is located, and he gets so scared, why? Isn't this great news, you are capturing a ghost, if you believe them, probably was someone from production that made the shadow again to create tension, but no, they get scared.

And because the psychic says the spirit tells them to "get out" (better movie btw) they rush out of the place they just found.

What are this people doing?! I can't...

Great acting
2 October 2022
We did not know about this movie, and while watching it thought the story was familiar. Sure, is based on a well known true crime event, you will get which one dear reader.

Anyway, it is different enough to be knew, and is engaging enough to keep you watching. Is true enough to not be a fairy tale, and fast enough to be a good watch without being boring.

The acting is very on point, even the little girl which sometimes can be difficult to cast acts very well, not annoying at all.

By the way Matt Damon does a great job with his portrait of a difficult father figure.

And what more can I write, 600 words, give it a view, maybe we will check out other movies by this director in the future.

It's good movie.
24 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's well acted, even if it feel short is a fine length for the story, is better than just padding up the run time with things that don't matter.

The relationship between the brothers is awful, I dread to think on who it may be based on, but it comes to show what growing up in a dysfunctional family can do to people.

As for spoilers: I would have rated higher if they'd had the guts to kill Joey at the end. Matt and Joey are obviously disturbed by what they witnessed growing up, and it would have been a more wrenching ending if that environment would have ended with Matt killing Joey.

I know is brutal, but the movie is quite bleak, so why not go all the way?

I have to say that I couldn't believe some of the decisions Joey takes, his inability to stand up to his brother at first shows how submissive he can be to brute force, still can kind of torture an "innocent man" for his pleasure. Then the decisions seemed psychotic, like he got a new pet/dad he could somehow control. Was he becoming a serial killer? Is that what we witnessed?

Anyway, good effort.

31 July 2022
It is so bad, so boring, nothing interesting happens. Are we supposed to be scared? Maybe a young child would get scared, and then cringe 10 years down the line after re watching this movie.

Why does this have an R rating? Only because of the blood used? It has to be, because it is not scary at all.

What a difficult review to write..
27 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So I won't go into it too much...

First season was great, beautiful photography, great places to shoot, amazing cast, interesting and intriguing story...

Second season, ok amazing cast still, beautiful place still, story going a little sideways, but ok, I'm still intrigued somewhat...

Then the third season, wtf happened!? What did you do!? What is this? Because is not the show I was watching? 4 episodes? 4 episodes too long, I have not researched this but I'm assuming they were canceled and they tried to end the series "somehow," (somehow Palpatine is back in my opinion!).

Sad state of affairs for the cast, and everyone involved that had nothing to do with this last 4 episodes... skip the ending, make up something yourself in your head, it will be better.

As for spoilers, the only good thing that came out of it was the "revenge" on "the feeder"...

I want to like this show so much...
3 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
But it is not the best if we're being honest. We watched season 1 and it was ok, halfway through 2, and it is becoming taxing.

You have your typical characters, the big secret, the smaller secret that will probably connect to the bigger one. You have your rookie (TDC Billie Fitzgerald, Tori Allen-Martin) which is our view into this new dynamic we are being presented, (rookie btw which I had hoped would turned up being an undercover in the unit because of the big secret, but as of now, no, only a rookie so far).

You have the boss lying (DI Bradford, Hugo Speer), but not well, you don't know if he's involved in the big secret, but he might have killed a posible witness to it, we don't really know. Obviously, conflict with the step daughter in this show, which has not appeared much in this 2nd season.

The smaller secret will most likely not be that important, it's here to cause tension inside the unit, between the characters, to show how stupid the boss can act when caught in a simple misunderstanding, but that may make viewers think he is in fact capable of doing away with the witness and the wife.

The production is poor, you get to watch the same videos of the outside of the police station, (that truck and bus aren't going anywhere...), and other areas.

The interrogations are mundane, not much there sadly. The shots are ok, maybe; too tight sometimes to create false tension, ends up only being annoying. Most dialog is very predictable sadly.

The action is almost non existent, that's not really necessary for a procedural; but when it's there, is not very believable.

The acting is fine for what they are given to do, but it could be better, there's lots of room to improve. The actor playing the character of DC Rob Brady (Bailey Patrick) is finally doing some acting! He was mostly a wall 1st season, now he seems more ready to play his part. We like Sarge, DS Vivienne Cole (Sharon Small), she really tries her best with the little there is to do, I like how rough she was in season 1, I believe she's more soft now, which I hope doesn't last.

Supporting actors are not great, I know they are trying, but they are lacking. I assume the production has a low budget, but it shows not only in scenes, which you can tell were shot the best they could, but in casting too, not the best for the "criminal of the week" or suspect. Surprisingly a child that was in the 2nd episode of season 2 was great in his role, he really did well, others have not so far.

So there, we want to like it, we do, but is not the best we have watch from British TV, so we can only hope it gets better.

It is an ok movie. Not the best, not that terrible. Is a really condensed OS, but ok, I guess there's no much time to give everyone a proper introduction.

What I did enjoy where the visual effects, those were interesting.

Maybe the next movie can catch up with a better story, dialogue, editing, music, ambience, and so on.

Would not recommend...
21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is fine, good, it's a well casted movie. The locations are fine, good, is visualy fine even beautifulin some parts. The action is there, sometimes, not that much, but fine when portrait.

The story is boring, tha flashbacks are meh, what are they? For what if they don't help to give time references? How longs it's been since they last saw each other? Why did they separate? When did she join the war effort? Only to find her daughter?

As for some actions they take, why did the lieutenant try to kill her? And in such a convoluted way about it, he could just shoot her, we truly thought she had some special abilities because of this, but she basically only knows the terrain for some reason? But to be honest, it is not enough to justify bringing her in, as if it's so important. I get the mission is difficult and more bodies is better as they offer distraction from the rest, but let's be clear, there's nothing that special here.

They even commented on how difficult is for this area to get fully frozen as it is right now, but they need "these people" to cross over. They could make one of those flashbacks to explain why she was so important or so efficient on this particular ice, but they don't go there.

I won't watch this again, and that's saying a lot as I'm a fan of Noomi Rapace, but this is one of her worst movies.

I was a fan, this movie is awful! I watched the original series, was this the series? No that I remember.

This movie basically undoes all the original series did in order to happen, and then it becomes boring.

My partner who is a greater fan than me doesn't want to finish watching, that's how bad it is.
