The Idol (2023)
If dark isn't your speed then don't watch
This show is great. So many people slamming this show after one episode ( or not even finishing the first episode). I was going to wait until it was over to review but sheesh, since everyone was going in, here goes...
Lily rose is amazing and believable in her role. You can feel her emotion. The show is DARK. People are criticizing The Weeknd's character saying it's uncomfortable or too sexual, well i highly doubt those people have actually heard House of Balloons or Trilogy. And side note, the soundtrack to this show is also fire... thank you Abel.
Back to Jos ( Lili ), after episode 3 we learn more about how her mother treated her and you begin to feel more some of what she's been through and what she's in the stuck slump she's in. Tedros ( The Weeknd) used her past trauma to help jump start her career again. It's definitely controversial and dark, but also real life. This is a true toxic relationship and again, this is real life. I'm sad there are only 3 more left because there is so much to unravel here with Jos and her "relationship ". The Weeknd's character is not likeable at all, and the fact that so many of y'all don't like him just means he's playing the character right. Watch the entire series, people. Then judge. For me so far , i think it's a great show, In this genre.
Alba (2021)
Another decent entertaining binge
I don't think it's quite fair for me to rate this yet since I'm on episode 6.... BUT i had to complain about Rubens mother. Her character kills it for me every time she enters the scene... she looks straight out of a telenovela from the 80's. Each scene she enters the show feels like we went back to the 80's. Aside from her , and I'm a fan of every character from Elite, ( Alvaro is in this playing another not so great guy), the cast are great and it's a good binge. Also, it's making me want to visit Spain. Beautiful location.
Now and Then (2022)
Entertaining Binge
I'm not really sure the expectations people have going in to some of these series, but i personally quite enjoyed this show and highly anticipate a season 2. The story was good, suspenseful, and a captivating plot with very good actors / actresses. The younger vs older characters were believable and i LOVED that they all spoke English as well. I watch a lot of Spanish series ( just finished Who Killed Sarah as well) and always wonder if they can speak English as well. So hearing all these actors speak their native language and switch to English as well was great for me. The show ends w a definite set up for a season 2 so i hope it is renewed. To some of the harsh critic authors out there , lower your expectations a tad, it's a drama series meant for entertainment. To me, it did just that. I binged in a few days.
Rome (2005)
Bring Rome back!!!
If i coikd start a petition to bring season 3 back i would. Before the days of GOT, there was Rome and this show was GREAT in every way. I watched this in syndication back in '05, loved it then and love it now as i rewatch. The character portrayal , music scores , cinematography ( for '05), all of it are 10 stars. I have no beef with this shoe except that they got cut and we didn't have any Closure. With only 2 seasons it was just getting better and we could easy have seen 2 more seasons. I know it was due to production but man i wish they'd bring it back. All the lead characters still look great today ( heck half of them were in GOT lol). Summary : Rome was one of HBOs best shows.
Cobra Kai: Match Point (2021)
Johnny !
I could write all day about this show. I have been watching since before it was on Netflix. I won't even get into how much i love this show since I'm reviewing just this episode , so I'll ( try ) to just stick
To this episode. Johnny makes this show and this episode was all his. I LOVED their showdown. The way it brings us back to that fight from part i we all loved so much , ( with Johnny so hot with his trademark bandana and gold locks haha)... and then we see this re match 30 years later and the ending ... best part. I literally laughed out loud. I didn't see that coming at all but it was so classic of the two of them and their dynamic as adults. Love it ! I loved how they watched Bloodsport at the Drive in and the nod to Chicagos Glory of Love. You obviously have to be from that era ( I'm 42) to enjoy a lot of this. But over all another well played episode. P.s, someone please ask Tori to smile.
Yellowjackets (2021)
Can't wait to see how this unfolds
I wasn't sure if the plot of this initially. The beginning events in the first minute are " weird ", but after finishing the first episode, i can't wait to see how this whole story will unfold. I really need to know what happened in the woods now. I just hope it doesn't get too over the top. I have to say the casting is one of the main reason i gave 10 stars. The older current day version of the teenagers is spot on. Especially Shaunas character. I mean 2021 version legit looks just like teen one would like 25 years later. The teenaged girls acting is superb and i love the 90's vibe as well. But great show so far and i can't wait till next Sunday !
