Really original, different and funny film!
9 February 2003
Mortadelo & Filemon's first film (and may be not the last because it's going to be a success) is just great. Transforming the comic into a movie was a really hard job, but Javier Fesser has accomplished it very well; the comic's gags, humour and constant violence is here, helped by convincing and hilarious special effects (there are many!); it's a mix between Fesser's humour (shown in El Milagro de P. Tinto) and Francisco Ibáñez one.

The comics are quite known, specially around Europe, and of course, in Spain. However, whether you know them or not, it doesn't matter because its fun for everyone, all ages! The movie isn't based in any of the comics, but takes several elements from their first long comic, El Sulfato Atomico (1968), but there are many other references. Benito Pocino and Pepe Viyuela are excellent in their parts; Pocino doesn't perform. He IS Mortadelo. And he does his job fairly well. Viyuela isn't as similar as the comic's Filemon but has the exact psycology, and I think he does the best performance in the film. The other supporting actors, like Janfri Topera (as Prof. Bacterio) and Mariano Venacio (as the Superintendent), are almost identic, and you do really believe that it's the comic translated to the screen. Dominique Pinon plays Fredy Mazas, an invented character, hilariously.

There are other funny characters like Rompetechos and the people in 13 Rue del Percebe, that have great cameos in this film. It is, as Francisco Ibáñez (the creator of the comic) said, the comic as a movie. It's really imaginative, with many original ideas and things (like Prof. Bacterio's cool inventions)

Finally, must say that the special effects are simply amazing, and really believale (they don't look cheesy or fake), the best in spanish movies, and there are so many details that it's impossible to see them all if you see it only once; there are lots of gags and funny details that you won't notice at first sight, so look sharp!

Very entertaining movie, you laugh your pants off ***1/2 of ****

Gory, disturbing, horrible....but AWESOME
27 March 2002
Ok, like most of u guys i've been surprised when i've seen the rating...5.4! kmon! this movie is very good! im sure most of people voted it because it was gory and bloody, and it was, but it was good anyway! First, I saw this movie in a dark theather when I was 12 years old. I was expecting an average sci-fi film, something like Pitch Black, but ah! surprise! Its actually the most disturbing and gory film i've ever saw; bloody, scary, thrilling and really horrible. But I wasnt very freaken out at all, I liked it, it entretained me. Some people of the theather went away to throw up but I didnt. In some moments i was reaally frightened! But lets say the thruth; this film is very well made (the special effects are fantastic, the film editing is very cool too (see the hell flashes), the music is well done, and the horror is graphic and mental).

The idea is awesome, the plot so-so, but it creates really moments when you get p***ed in your pants (specially the air vent scene). The cast is good too, and it has two of my favourite actors; Sam Neill and Jason isaacs.

So trust me, its a great movie, but be mentalized that you'll see very gory and bloody scenes, so DO NOT SEE THIS IF URE A LOW-STOMACH GUY OR A KID (well if u are a very brave kid, ok), but it deserves a 9/10

Aliens (1986)
10/10
Sci-fi classic
27 March 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I can only use a word to descrive this movie: AWESOME. One of Cameron's first movies (after a Piranha one and of course, Terminator), after he got really famous with T2 and Titanic, that I think it is his best one; it mixes sci-fi, thriller, horror and action. Being an Alien fan and a Cameron one, this is simply the best. Ridley Scott's movie, pretty good too, was maybe more calmed and scary, and Aliens is action-packed, terrifying and terrific! For if one alien wasnt enough, you get hundreds of them, hunting and chasing a bunch of poor marines that come to aliens' planet to rescue any people's lifes, but of course, the aliens have cocooned and eliminated all the peeps. So the marines find themselves trapped in a ruined colony full of predators (SPOILER****all marines but one die****), and their spaceship gets destroyed and they get attacked by the aliens and everything goes bad. The special effects are pretty good, still being from year 86, and the aliens are very cool, the film editing is great, the sound perfect. When you get all this in an scene, it gets great (see the battle scene aka ripley's rescue for example), creating horrible and thrilling atmospheres. Thought it is not very gory, it contains lots of frights and scary moments. James Horner's score is awesome too, and the cinematography is fantastic.

Talking about cast, we find some of James Cameron's most usual actors, such as Michael Biehn (the hero of Terminator), Lance Hersinken (Terminator too), Bill Paxton (again Terminator, plus True Lies and Titanic), jeanette Goldstein (T2), and of course, Sigourney Weaver (Alien series). The cast gets perfectly and the characters remain in the spectators' mind (who doesnt remember brave private Hudson p***ed in his pants?) Overally, this is one of sci-fi's masterworks, among with Star Wars, and for me, its the best Jim Cameron's work. The sequels, Alien 3 and Resurection are a piece of s*** compared with this movie, and surprisingly, Aliens is better or good as the first movie, Alien. 9.5/10
