Sex and the City: To Market, to Market (2003)
Timing is off
Carrie and Aiden broke up in Jan 2002. According to Steve he didn't get out of bed for a month, then he dated Nina Katz. This episode airs in June 2003. So in 15 months, Aiden got married and now has a 6-ish month old baby.
And Just Like That... (2021)
And just like that ...
... Chris Noth dies of embarrassment after being asked to masturbate on the telly. Literally the only time I've felt uncomfortable watching SATC.
The rest of it was only marginally better. Carrie trying to be down with the kids, throwing around 'mic drop' and other teen lingo. Apparently Kristin Davis forgot how to act since the last movie and the less said about Miranda's behaviour the better. Numerous 'jokes' and witty comments about being old that fell flat. We get it, you got older. We know. We have eyes.
And the not so subtle dig at Kim Cattrall during the funeral was just childish. We see what you did there SJP. Not cool.
Midnight in the Switchgrass (2021)
Could have been good - but it wasn't
The storyline is very reminiscent of the novel Kiss the Girls by James Patterson (also a movie). It could have been good if the story / scenes had been taken to their full potential but they stopped short. Take for example the ending, it had the potential to be more action packed and gripping if the scenes had been developed further, but it just ended quite abruptly, almost like the writers got bored or ran out of energy or time. Makes me wonder if lots got left on the cutting room floor.
Lots of things didn't make sense either. In the opening scene, the sales rep follows a trail of hooker paraphernalia bread crumbs to find the body. But if she was killed somewhere else and the body dumped there as suggested by Hirsch's character, why would the contents of her purse be strewn along the ground? Why was the second hooker found in the bathtub wrapped in a towel/shower curtain when she was killed in the bedroom wearing a dress? And Fox's character is full of bravado with GI Jane fighting skills in the scene with MGK, yet recoils like a kicked puppy when challenged at the motel murder scene and referred to as 'sweetheart'. And why was Bruce Willis in this movie at all? Did he know he was in this movie, because he didn't seem to know the cameras were rolling judging by his enthusiasm.
Music (2021)
Sensory overload
I decided to reserve judgement until I had seen it for myself but unfortunately I only made it to 1 minute 40 seconds before I had to screw my eyes shut for 5 minutes. The opening music scene was too much and trigged a big sensory overload reaction. So I'm giving it 1 star because this autistic person was unable to watch it.
