This is one of the best series I have watched in years. Even though it states only 21 episodes it actually goes on for 46. It is the War and Peace of TV. Riveting, dramatic, courageous with twists and turns that are unbelievable. The actors do an excellent job and only wish I could see them in more publicized films/TV The story does slow down a little when they get to Istanbul but continues on to a tearful and dramatic ending.

a place to call home - give us more like this

I have been watching the Sunday reruns of this show and I am riveted. Unfortunately when it was on at night it was too late for me to stay up and watch. Now I can watch it all in 6 hours every Sunday however....... I see Season 3 is going to Foxtel which I do not subscribe to and never will.

Having been born soon after the WW2 and lived through the 50s this story is so powerful and riveting for me. The characters are so amazing, performances great especially David Berry throughout his struggle in the mental institution.

It is a powerful drama, with emotions running high. Every twist brings in new dangers.

I cannot understand why Ch7 would not commit to Season 3 when there are so many trashy lifestyle shows on and nothing great to watch now. Give us more TV drama like this as does the BBC with it's George Gently, Midsommer Murders, Foyles War etc etc......

Having read some of the reviews posted here I am greatly disappointed by the first one posted by someone who seems to be homophobic. It was apparent from his head shot that he is far to young to even remember the time Peter Allen lived in. His struggle for success in USA was always over-powered by the presence of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli both of whom dominated at the time.

Having worked in the entertainment industry all my life and lived through all those years, what was depicted in this TV movie was absolutely the way it was. The performances were great. Young Ky Baldwin has a very successful career ahead of him.

Great TV viewing and thank you 7 for bringing the life of Peter Allen to us all.

On another note I have been watching the Sunday reruns of A Place to Call Home -- Australia's Dynasty - Disappointed to hear Season3wille o Foxtel as I do not subscribe there. Love this show as I also remember those years with great clarity.

a slice of life

I have waited six years to see this movie as it got very limited release in Australia. Finally it came to television. It is such a 'feel good' movie, it brought a tear to my eye and to me that makes a movie good. Yes, its about old age but we all get there one day. It was well directed, edited, nice music score, all characters well acted and cast just right. It has some very funny moments and the greyhound racing is something unusual to see in a movie. It's amazing how one day can bring so much happiness to a retirement center. This movie is suitable for all ages or at least from teenage up. They would be able to see in the characters their grand parents. You distributors out there, why not give this a go and show it in your countries. Yes it does have limited appeal but those who see it will talk about it. What about a DVD release and that way it will get to everyone and anyone? Do it and in doing so support the Australian film industry. 10 out of 10.
