Westworld: Decoherence (2020)
Intense!
Amazing episode, as usual. The stakes are ratched way up by the end, and I'm fascinated to see how all of the pieces are going to come together.
Lost in Space (2018)
A Solid, Fun Romp
It's unfortunate that there are so many "anti-PC" reviews here. Yes, Judy is played by a POC. If you, like most normal people, are not threatened nor offended by the portrayal of a blended family, this will be as much of a non-issue for you as it was for me. In fact, there is a brief but well-written explanation later on.
I hesitate to make this a review about the reviews, but many of these hinge upon race or so-called "plot holes", yet the reviewer didn't care to watch the whole season for any answers.
The Robinsons are not the 60's Robinsons, happy and shiny and perfect. There is plenty of interpersonal drama and quite honestly the family does not get along well when we first join them. That starts to change, however, and by the midpoint of the season, we see just how this family could salvage themselves and their relationships with one another.
The robot gets a modern upgrade, and a welcome one at that. He is at once disquieting yet lovable. It is this juxtaposition that makes you root for the robot, and which lends his budding friendship with Will its intrigue. It recalls a bit of a Terminator 2 vibe.
Parker Posey has long been one of my favorite actresses, and for me she hits it out of the park here. As Dr. Smith, most of her lines could be delivered in any manner and it wouldn't matter. This Dr. Smith is complex, intriguing, and menacingly understated. Watching her weave her web of lies is brilliant, and watching that begin to unravel is no less of a treat.
Yes, the science is - for lack of better word - wonky in some spots. It's not terribly pervasive however, and aside from the "ice issue" in the first episode, pretty negligible.
If you're looking for a fun sci-fi romp that doesn't blurt out the answers to every question immediately, this if for you.
