Basic Instinct 2 (2006)
What the hell happened?
Let me start off by saying that when i began watching this movie i was very interested, and what actually led me to watching it was the review set upon it by Roger Ebert, he stated that this was a god-awful movie but as bad as it was, it wasn't boring and that if you saw it, you'd probably be entertained. That is the best descriptions of this movie i've ever heard. The plot spins out of control especially the ending which it turns out to be Dr. Glass as the killer. What is that all about, because when you watch it there isn't a shred of evidence that would make you think he's the killer, and that might sound good but it doesn't' work for this movie because we want to watch this movie because for the character of Sharon Stone. The first film reveals that she is the killer so you expect her to be at the top of her murdering game in this one as well, and she doesn't even kill anyone! She doesn't commit one murder through the whole thing and isn't that why wanted to see it in the first place, to watch a femme fatal be played wonderfully by Sharon Stone? I truly enjoyed the original film because of the movie's maine villain, Catherine Tramell was one of the best female villains in film and this movie doesn't do the character the justice she deserves. Like i said earlier, if you watch this movie, you're going to think its stupid but there is absolutely no way you will be bored. You might even enjoy the stupidity of the whole thing.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
This Film is Terrific
Leave it to Time Burton and Johnny Depp to take a dark classic musical, and make a it bloody good time. The film is fantastic, I can't even describe or scratch the surface of how amazing this is, but I'll start with Depp. He is unforgettable in this movie, his performance is the most charismatic of this decade. As much as I prey to the gods that he'll win the Oscar, I think (unfortunatly) that it is going to go to Day-Lewis, as much as I want Depp to win. He truly deserves it and it will be even better that it's in the best Tim Burton film since Ed Wood. Keep your fingers crossed for Johnny's Oscar. Mrs. Lovett played beautifully by Helena Bonham Carter, she carry's the character with a certain grace that I can't picture any other actress doing.
Tim Burton's direction is also award worthy. This play was huge on stage and Burton brings it down to from a opera on stage to a film that is huge, but doesn't feel it. Don't get me wrong this film is by far one of the best of this year, but he is able to take this from Broadway to a film. It doesn't feel like a play, it feels like a real movie, I can't even describe it, this film is so go and so terrific, you'll wanna look away from the gore, but I guarantee you won't be able to.
Hannah Montana: Everybody Was Best Friend Fighting (2007)
Funniest Episode, Funniest Show....It's just great
I'll start off by saying that this is a great show. What makes it so great is the fact that Miley Cyrus is the hottest 15 year old girl I've ever seen, I want to marry her.
Secondly, the show is funny, and though it needs better writers and the acting isn't terrific this episode is hilarious. Miley and that Michaela girl are incredibly funny in the opening sequence, and this episode is incredibly hysterical.
It's just a good show because Miley is beautiful, and the jokes are mediocre but they're funny. I love watching it. It's on everyday, so next time you notice on i suggest you watch it.
Girl, Interrupted (1999)
Angelina Jolie is amazing!!
Girl, Interrupted is a memoir about a woman who stayed in a Mental Hospital for a while, and retells of the people she interacted with during her stay, and the characters in this movie are portrayed very well, as specially the character of Lisa Rowe. Lisa Rowe is played by Angelina Jolie, even though she is kind of an odd-ball in real life, she is an amazing actress. Her performance is this movie is simply remarkable. Her character is a sociopath, and you can tell before the film even tells you. Every scene she's in is a masterpiece, the suppporting actors are great, the directing is terrific, and the film is a work of art! Angelina Jolie won a very deserved Oscar for this performance, I can't even describe in words how amazing she is...you just have to see it for yourself.
Mommie Dearest (1981)
Faye Dunaway deserved the Oscar
I was appalled when I found out that Faye Dunaway wasn't even nominated for an academy award for her performance as Joan Crawford. After doing some research on the film I came to understand that for it's time, the film was thought to be terrible, it was considered a disgrace because of what it dared to show in the film. It made sense after finding out, now the movie is liked among most of the people you would talk to, but for its time, it was too much for people.
Anyway Faye Dunaway is incredible as the estranged Hollywood icon, Joan Crawford, her performance was very satisfying, the way she created this character was the best thing about this film. Though the supporting performances are weak, and Frank Perry's directing isn't exactly inspiring, I enjoyed the film for the energy, and I thought it showed how Joan Crawford really was.
My favorite scene was when Joan Crawford gets incredibly upset over a dress being hung in the closet with a wire hanger, it is one of those scenes that no matter how many times you see it, it is still hard to watch, which I believe makes it a good film. I do recommend it, just don't go by the original reviews, because it is a good film that shows the abusive relationship between Joan Crawford and her adopted daughter.
Mean Creek (2004)
Dark and and well made
The film is very very well made, and it was much better than the advertisements lead me to believe. It also has a very dark storyline, it's about how a group of kids want to get even with a playground bully played by Josh Peck. It gets very interesting when the prank goes terribly wrong and they accidentally kill the bully. It's rare to see such a great cast in the film, each of the actors is very talented for being so young.
But if i had to give all the credit to one of the actors, i'd give it to Josh Peck, the character of the bully is a very strange character and it seems as though it would be difficult to create on screen, but Peck does an incredible job. One scene he's nice the next scene he's almost so terrible to the other characters, it's unsettling to watch. I give this movie a strong recommendation, for a great storyline, great performances, and a very well made film.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Not Bad for a Third Installment
I went to go see this movie yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. The movie had great action sequences, and Tobey Maguire gives a phenomenal performance. I half expected this movie to be a flop, just because the second one and the first one were both so good, but it wasn't like that at all. It had a good storyline, and though they could have made it a little shorter, I definitely think its worth seeing.
I also thought that it might be hard to really get into the plot, seeing there were three villains in the movie, but they all intertwine very well and come down to an amazingly exciting battle in the end, not bad for the last in the trilogy, if I were you, I'd goo see it.
Misery (1990)
Kathy Bates is Amazing!!!
oh my god!! this movie goes in my top 10. the film is about james caan, a writer, being captured by a crazed fan played by kathy bates. the film is very well directed, which i recently found out it was directed by Rob Reiner, which i think in anyone elses hands this movie could be an absolute mess, but he pulls it off.
The main reason this movie is so terrific, is Kathy Bates, she plays Annie Wilkes, probably one of the most complex characters in film. She won a well-deserved Oscar for this role and she should have. Her performance is great on so many levels, and after seeing her in this mad me appreciate the film twice as much. Great directing, great performances, great film!! don't' even bother renting it, just go out and buy the DVD
Fracture (2007)
Great Acting....kind of slow paced
the film as you probably already know is about a man (hopkins) who shoots his wife and confesses to it....but gets away with it Gosling plays the young hot-shot DA who is trying to convict Hopkins.
It starts out well with an interesting beginning but it starts to get slow towards the end.....the movie is very good with a well thought out plot and a twist i honestly didn't see coming, but if you go to see it go to see it for the performances. Hopkins is truly chillilng and plays the brilliant killer roles better than anyone, and Gosling is truly a rising star. So I do recommend it but don't go in there for the action, because it is slow, but go and watch the amazing performances.
