Castlevania: Nocturne (2023)
A Castlevania Fan Letdown...
The animation is hand drawn and exquisite, but it's the story telling and bloated dialogue that is so lacking. Where's the suspense, the sense of adventure, the mystery of the evil source, and the development of friendship bonds? Bradley just throws them all together like M&Ms. Annette isn't the GF that needs rescuing, becomes a Haitian runaway slave and then becomes the main story. Belmont is now a side kick. So much uninteresting dialogue with no purpose that neglects to drive the story. I don't care about any of the characters. The vampires are haphazard 1-dimensional caricatures. Evil gay vamp? "Eye-roll."
The Last Thing He Told Me (2023)
A Tech Tale of Whining
Unrealistic plot by a lazy novice writer. Angourie is either whining or being a brat in every scene. How is the viewer suppose to connect? What wife behaves like this when the FBI arrests & charges the CEO & co? Why wouldn't you meet the FBI to discover the charges against your "innocent" husband? Your husband's sudden disappearance along with the bag of money are sure signs something is illegal, unethical and criminal.
On episode 3, and I can't take anymore. Plus, the only other independent, interesting character Aisha has to be lesbian again slighting heterosexual females. It's the current industry formula.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Top Gun Redox Trope
This redux is a rebox/regift of the original. Same horrid Kenny Loggins tune overshadowing Harold Faltermeyer's catchy instrumental. Lady Gaga was lured for what reason?
The F/A18 flight/fight scenes are average compared to the original F-14 scenes. How can that be 30 years later?
The cast of fighter jocks is miscasted. Monica as the Alpha dog is cringe and farcical despite having some women As the underdog jock, that out performs, yes more believable.
The cast did "train" & prepare in abbreviated pilot survival rescue/egress, but that doesn't translate to their acting, chemistry or believability.
I had trouble finishing this movie after 3/4. It's was so predictable, derivative, boring & lackluster. They stole Star Wars redux plot which was a nearly identical retread of that original.
The F/A18 sequences were disappointing. Perhaps because the F-14 was the fastest and a beast to dog fight with and was to be feared not like the slower, smaller more dual role superhornet.
Jon Hamm isn't a character actor let alone a military one. Need some military bearing.
The Gray Man (2022)
This Why Netflix Is Losing
Netflix can't sustain giving away $200M on this Ryan Gosling sequel action D movie quality. I couldn't believe it was a sequel to the horrendous 9. Update your algorithms & meters. Just because subscribers click on it or briefly view doesn't mean it's a Netflix hit.
I love Ana, but what a waste with the venerable Russo Bros.
Glad they signed the Duffer Bros because they are guaranteed quality which they thought Russo'a were.
Is the public clamoring for more Gosling lead action flicks? Look at his miserable history. He'd have a franchise series by now. Stop forcing him on us.
This production failed in every phase.
Derivative story, repetitive script, waste of a talented cast, waste of gifted directors and a waste of my 10".
From the first 10", it was predictable, uninteresting muddled action.
Primal (2019)
Genndy Returns
So glad he finally left that horrid Sony Transylvania series.
Primal S2, is once again where his talent & story telling lies.
I miss Samurai Jack, however this friendship series suffices. Great scenic prehistoric jungles, forests & savannas. Spear is intelligent & intuitive for a Neanderthal. You forget the miniature T-Rex is a mommy because she eats & hordes food like a T-Rex. Curious to see if these Vikings did enslave or decimated his species.
Irma Vep (2022)
For French Cinemaphile & Hollywood Fans only
I watched episodes 1-2 wondering the burning premise & zeal behind this remake. I actually liked the original. This as a series is like Netflix quality drawn out. I'm just over saturated with Hollywood & this doesn't help. Production & casting is top notch, but this derivative story & trope script is for only cinemaphiles only who can relish & appreciate this nuance.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Ewan was Admirable
What's with this horrid story line? Huge miscast for. Moses Ingram. Did she audition? Blatant tokenism. Why isn't the inquisitor in F/X Star Wars make up like the rest? Just a bad hairdo. Every scene with her was excruciating. Absolutely no skill in being menacing & evil or interesting. A solid actress can steal a scene. Not even close here. Thanks Disney.
It Follows (2014)
Really?
A ludicrous premise of sexual STI horror transmission. Why are reviewers calling this "witty?" A movie needs some proficient dialogue. No teen inquisitive banter, discussions of typical teen angst. Just a phrase to elaborate the plot otherwise just a bunch of teens staring at each other & long scenic car drives.
I don't see any existing director, writing or creative talent.
However, he scored a MGM production & this was viewed @ Cannes. Really?
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
No More Resurrections
Ever since the original Matrix, Lana has never written or directed any thing remotely worthy. Luckily, she can live off her billions from the trilogy.
From the casting, to the script, to the boring dead scenes, to the directing & finally the lame cinematography, it's all so cringe. Devoid of any original creativity or basic story telling.
Keanu just rocks his off screen bad wolf beard & continuing nonchalant borderline acting. So disappointed in Jessica Henwick. Yikes, she is miscast & so bad. I was such a fan in GOT.
It's just so bad... I would pay not to see it again.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Why Is There A Sequel to This?
Incredible it took 3 writers to create this fiasco. Is it even a movie? What's worse is the director. Did they even story board each scene? It fails film 101. What a waste of Judy Greer.
This could be Netflix quality...
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
More Godzilla Do-Over
Someone inform Kyle Chandler that his hilariously irritating "whispering" is not acting. He's seriously miscast to boot & he is not "star power" by any stretch just the same eye brow acting.
The editing must've been chaotic because the story is messy, horrendous & more derivative. The FX is better then I thought despite despising CGI.
Wow, how the crew transitions from huge a stealth jet, to a control room, to a submarine is confusing.
Kyle transitions from traveling to searching for his daughter to standing outside observing massive FX & then suddenly he is speaking back in the control room that he exited. Nice.
Need more Millie Brown.
No Time to Die (2021)
Farewell to James
Craig has been my favorite Bond since. Connery. Limited gadgetry & more authentic action sans CGI is appreciated with plan B's the routine. Bond going off the grid to recoup instead of living some fabled high life is the more palpable Bond.
Here Anna. De Armas was the best scene stealer & highlight of this film. She was believable, mesmerizing & vulnerable. The opposite of Lashana.
Who caste the Black 007 is seriously miscast. Why? Did she even audition? Every scene.with Lashana cringed & felt like a SNL skit. And mostly not believable like this selected DNA weaponized virus that only targets Spectre. Spectre are related by their DNA? Evil genes?
I good luck to Tom Hardy. An excellent selection akin to Craig's fabric DNA.
Julia (2022)
Too Much Fiction on a Great Life
I remember Julia on my local PBS afternoons. She did help me cook an omelette when I just burned one attempting to cook without oil. I was afraid of her man hands & voice. It wasn't until I realize her many verbal faux pas were her dry jokes. What an amazing "the little engine that could" career in a patriarchal world.
However, so much fiction overpowers her reality. I've read her biography & don't appreciate Goldfarb's culture substitute of Ruth Lockwood with the fictional Alice. Why obscure her courage & struggles? It taints every episode she's in & it's hard to empathize with her.
Being more inclusive doesn't mean fabricating a heroine's drama-biography.
The Batman (2022)
Interesting, but Oh So Forgettable
I'm a Matt Reeves & Paul Dano fan, so I was curious about another re-boot. It's better than any Affleck involvement. Why Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman? Totally miscast & dull choice. I understand her disappointment because of Nolan's too "urban" slur. Every scene with her is mesmerizingly monotonous. There's no chemistry whatsoever & she's extremely tiny & short with heels.
The dialogue audio is so low like on another wavelength along with the actors using a soft actor's tone.
Dano's choice of just screaming his lines made me eye roll & laugh. So annoying & lacking suspense.
I watched it twice & I still can't recall any memorable scenes except my favorite Nirvana tune.
That car chase was derivative & unnecessary. It looked expensive & the poor choice of wheel well camera angles sucked. We weren't drawn nor immersed in the scene. We couldn't even see the car action. Just wheel angle shots & driver shots. Might as well use CGI like lame Fast & Furious.
With no origin plot why the 3 hour length? No humor, no wit, indecipherable dialogue audio, no artful acting, no fun, & dreading the sequel with more lifeless Zoe.
The Guardians of Justice (2022)
Is This A Media 101 Project?
I had extremely low expectations of this series, but I was so bored. Midway on Ep 1, what am I watching? Is it a drama, drama-comedy or a parody? Parodies are simply bad movies devoid of any direction. Acting is horrendous, cinematography is junior high, weak plot, no story, a narcissistic narrative & just basically unwatchable. Who is Diamond Dallas? What's wrong with his facial skin? Adi Shankar is not the main creator of Castlevania. It's Warren Ellis & Powerhouse studios. Here's hoping Netflix ends it's welfare program with Shankar. Dude is not filmmaker or animator.
Daughter of the Wolf (2019)
Cures Insomnia
Gina discovered her niche that is poor choice in scripts, production studio. I'm still bewildered why her career is in action films, but she refuses to get fit, lean & toned. I followed her brief MMA career & she was habitually against embracing proper physical training. I've never seen he so full figured, soft & fluffy. Evidently, she isn't using her extra spare time in acting classes. WA wolves were reintroduced to our forests because of our crumbling wildlife ecosystem & the deer devastating the forest's lower canopy. Sorry our wildlife & forest health need wolves despite the sloppy, lazy depiction here. Thank goodness only limited audience will see this.
