Prey (2022)
Awesome movie!
Of course, "Prey" is not a masterpiece in this genre, but the film is very good, which has many strengths: it is also visual appeal, good shooting in nature, beautifully staged fights, action scenes are brutal with enough blood to satisfy the viewer, authentic Indians (actors or real Indians, or descendants of the ethnic peoples of America). The bright main character, the actor Dakota Beavers played brother Nara very cool (he fought coolly in the fight with the predator, good staging of the fight). Great music, energetic pace, finally returned the atmosphere of suspense. And in general, the film is rich in bright moments.
Yes, you can find fault with the unrealism: sometimes the predator is stupid, then the girl is unconvincing in the role of the heroine who is able to kill the predator. But let's not forget that this is a genre movie that plays by its own rules. In this case, it is not only an action movie in which strong men win. "Prey" is a combination of action and horror, namely the slasher subgenre. And in slashers, a woman always wins, the so-called "final girl", whose strength is primarily in her mind. In addition to the action scenes, the plot is very similar to a slasher: the killer arranges a bloody odyssey through the lands of the Indians, kills everything that poses a threat (and kills often with a cold weapon, which is the rule of the slasher), until at the end he meets a worthy rebuff.
Yes, the ending was not very inventive, it could have been filmed like this: for the heroine and her brother to overwhelm the predator, something like that, the brother exhausted him well, and at the last decisive moment she saves the wounded brother by killing the predator in the finale. But it is what it is, and it's not bad, especially compared to all the previous sequels. I give the film a solid 8/10 and will gladly watch it again and again. As a genre film, "Prey" copes with its task - it entertains with its action, delights the eye with its visuals, captivates with its pace, causes tension with its suspense... In short, it ensures a pleasant 90 minutes of our time.
Speak No Evil (2022)
It's a masterpiece!
This is the scariest, most shocking movie I've ever seen. There is almost no physical violence and blood, but this is incredibly strong psychological horror! And now, this is my number one favorite horror movie.
The Aviary (2022)
I like this movie.
A good psychological thriller about brainwashing by cult leaders and the traumatic consequences.
Yes, the film has problems: it lacks tension, a slow pace and a slightly long running time. The plot is somewhat vague, but there is an unreliable narrator and it is intriguing. The two actresses played their roles well.
A good movie that is not as simple as it seems at the beginning.
The Forgiven (2021)
Awesome movie!
The result is a powerful, engrossing, thought-provoking film about the morality and privilege of the rich and powerful, filled with scathing explorations of social class and culture that asks its characters difficult questions about guilt, remorse and privilege.
9/10.
Deep Water (2022)
Bad, very bad
Worst movie I've seen in a long time. Terribly bad script, bad directing, no acting, in short everything about this movie is bad. Not an erotic thriller, but a mediocre parody. I will give 1 point out of 10 only for the presence of the beautiful Ana de Armas, although I didn't even like her in this film, because her character is disgustingly unpleasant.
