Earth vs. the Spider (2001)
Spiderman meets The Fly. Underrated Hidden Gem
I remember watching this when it came on Showtime way back in 2001. I loved it. Some of the effects may not have aged well but the story, the spirit, & everything else is worth checking this one out. At the heart of the story is a shy guy who loves comics & has a crush on his super sweet neighbor but wants to be something more. He sees a chance & takes it but sadly his dream of being a hero comes at a terrible price. It's starts off as a Spider-man style superhero flick but evolves into a David Cronenburg-esque body horror movie of the same nature as The Fly. Its not just the Monster that this wannabe hero becomes, it's the hero becoming the monster that gives this movie its juice. You route for Quinton when he starts living the dream but then your heart breaks & you are horrified for him when he transforms more than he intended & starts losing everything he loves in life. There's a scene in particular when he sprouts mandables & has a heartbreaking conversation with his concerned neighbor/crush on the other side of his door, realizing he screwed up & truly missed out on being with her. Check it out with an open mind & enjoy the ride.
Matango (1963)
Truly a well made movie
I just got watching this movie on DVD, and i have to say i am more then impressed with it. i didn't think Japanese scary movies from the 60's could actually scare me, but when that thing peeked into the girls' cabin, i was freaked out for the rest of the movie. It's one of those movies that toys with your head, makes you think that you can trust all the characters when in the end there's only one that you can trust even then you wonder if he's truly trustworthy or not. not to mention the idea of people eating mushrooms and then turning into them is one hell of an original idea. by the time the movie was over i felt as though i had watched a different incarnation of Night Of The Living Dead. It leaves that feeling of oh my god there was no hope for them at all! Not to mention the Matango are never destroyed meaning that there's a possibility of more and more people going to the island and that they'll continue multiplying. but yeah definitely an outstanding movie that's got my 10/10 rating
Spiders (2000)
Cool Idea, Bad Performance
OK now the idea for this movie is something really cool considering that the Spiders pull an Alien laying their eggs inside of people and with the whole Area 51 set up all ending with the 1 spider going on a rampage through the city at the end, But! the performance was very disappointing, had the cast been better executing their roles and putting more emotion (well the lead girl did a pretty good job), not to mention if the effects were a lot better this movie would b a hit, sadly it just turned out to be a movie with a ton of potential but falls short with the final cut. I have to say that the lead girl did a good job with her character, having her start off as an average young lady trying to make her way and gradually turning into a character that resembles Ripley from the Alien Franchise. Her role and the plot r the only 2 things that make this movie watchable.
Yi zhao ban shi chuang jiang hu (1978)
with out a doubt one of my top Jackie Chan movies of all time
What was great about this movie is the fact that it blended martial arts action, a serious plot, and hilarious comedy perfectly, and it is one of the few films that did it as good as this one did. You had all these different parties and clans from guards of a highly valued property, to the iron palm clan, to street thugs, to the famous Poison Clan, and of course the training instructor and his pupil that teaches Jackie Chan through out the movie, all of these different clans and parties that displayed such a wide variety of styles that you rarely find in martial arts films. Then there's the plot of the film which follows Jackie Chan as a common street bum trying to make his way in life and hopes to become a great kung fu expert, that finally gets the chance to make this dream come true, but also comes across a party of government men that are protecting a special property that he ultimately joins to protect from all these different gangs that leads to a final, huge, battle between the different parties. and then comes in the comedy which surprising worked very very very well, with such moments as when Jackie comes to the aid of one of his female friends during the big finale and tries to act tough and show off against his opponent but gets punched down the side of the hill, and then sitting up with his back in pain going "Damn you" and when Jackie is facing off against a man his master dubs, the man with a thousand faces, and decides to climb a tree to escape his opponent with the man yelling at him to come on down and Jackie chuckling back "you come on up" all this is what makes Half A Loaf Of Kung Fu such a great movie
The 100 Scariest Movie Moments (2004)
Is there any way that i can get this on DVD!?
Whats better then a scary movie with scary scenes and people making some of the funniest comments? A list of 100 scary movies with the 100 scariest movie moments of all time with the coolest people commenting on them! I really want to know if there's a way to own this on DVD, i love watching this every time it comes on, it introduced me to so many scary movies that i had yet to hear about that i want to see, and the stuff they show in it is unbelievably spectacular. And the people interviewed through out the whole thing are so funny and cool. Plus if it wasn't for this movie i probably wouldn't have gotten hooked on my newly found favorite horror movie of all time, George A. Romero's Dawn Of The Dead. Haha to be honest though the scene they showed from Dawn Of The Dead i found to be quite hilarious. but yeah it's so much fun watching this thing. So please if anyone knows where to get this on DVD, let me know!
Gojira (1954)
The True King
The DARKEST, MOST EMOTIONAL, and TRAGIC MOVIE EVER!!!! not to mention THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!! I've always wanted to see the original Gojira, and now that i've seen it, i am in total AWE. It makes me look at the king of the monsters in a completely different way. What sets this movie apart is the fact that Godzilla is a metaphor/stand in for the atomic bomb. Not another monster movie with a hero that slays the monster at the end, but a movie where the one who defeats (or according to Dr. Yamane MAY have defeated) has a huge decision and responsibility to make, not only that but actually shows the weight on his shoulders, instead of just being like "hmmmm we got the one hand i can do this, but on the other hand i could do that, i think i'll do that" instead in the moment of decision he is pulling his hair out, sweating and it looked like he was about to cry too. Then the innocent people caught in the rampage, they show more emotion then running and screaming like having scenes where they are caught in claustrophobic tight spots watching in horror while trying to hide, and instead of most giant monster movies, shows what happens to some of them like people being torched by Godzilla's fiery breath, and shows the aftermath of what happened to the injured and dieing. Without a doubt an on-screen spectacle.
