Transparent (2014–2019)

Really quite touching (and funny to boot!)
15 October 2014
I could blurb on about how poignant this programme is.

I could parp on about how fabulous Jeffrey Tambor is.

I could ramble on about how enlightening it is or I could just say that I loved it, a lot.

Tis true, I really truly loved it. I did a spot of that binge watching thing, made my partner watch it and watched it again with her. I do not think that it is being hyped up due to the subject matter, it is simply a bleeding good programme. The humour doesn't come from a man in a dress, it comes from the keen observations in the writing and the great acting (maybe not from Judith Light's portrayal of an elderly Jewish woman, which I thought was a tad over the top on occasion, not so much in the flash backs though, which were quite lovely). It made me laugh, smile, cry, feel a lot of different emotions through each episode.

After watching it twice, I then went onto to reading about it and found a whole new appreciation for what it is and what Jill Soloway has done here, even though I thought it was fab before, I love it all the more knowing the background to the writing and making of it.

Looking forward to season two, I hope a TV channel picks it up, I'm not a huge fan of this video streaming thing and would prefer to see on a big screen.

Don't watch it with your 'rents!

I went to the cinema to see this and experienced one of the most uncomfortable 10 minutes of my life, where no-one in the cinema moved or drew breath during the very explicit sex scene in fear of being judged in anyway shape or form. It's absolutely not that I am a prude and disapproved of the scene, it is purely having to watch such an explicit scene in the company of others. After the scene was over I had an over whelming desire to announce the uncomfortable nature of the group viewing just to ease the tension in the room. That said the film is OK, I would have given it half a mark less if I was able to but thought I'd be over generous, rather than over critical. Some things bothered me about the film, overly long lingering shots of the main characters lips (facial feature here, although fair enough if you thought otherwise!) and lots of chobbling of food, not a thing I enjoy seeing or hearing. I feel that the film could have been more enjoyable if it were about 45 minutes shorter, same points could have been made. That said, the time drifted by without me constantly time checking and I felt suitably entertained when I left the cinema. Quite a nice story, nicely shot, acted and told.

How I Met Your Mother: The Time Travelers (2013)
Season 8, Episode 20

So sad.
23 June 2013
I really don't understand what has happened to this programme. I have watched all precious seasons numerous times and can always find things to laugh at. I love all the characters, well maybe not Ted, and have loved following the story lines. This whole season has just been dreadful! Can anyone shed any light on why this is so bad????? The writing seems so very different, the characters have changed drastically, the stories are really bad. So sad, was a good thing, now not so much. I keep watching with the hope that there will be one nice episode with some of the old humour in it. Fingers crossed. Why do they make us write so much in a review? I've pretty much said all I want to about the programme, I really only wanted to say it was bad but had to parp on more in order to fulfil all the required lines. Hey no, life is one huge disappointment all round.

Dreadful
3 March 2013
This show used to be good. I used to love Marshal but what have they done to him? Barney's lines are awful. Robin's boring. I've never really liked Ted too much but I can't bear him now. It's such a shame, I've watched old episodes several times and have favourite lines but can't say I'll feel that way about season eight. I've been waiting for it to get better but it's just not happening. I feel like the canned laughter is more prominent too, making it even more irritating. Please excuse my stilted writing but IMDb are insisting I write more than I wanted too when really it could be said with.................. Dreadful!!!!!
