Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Plays it very safe, but it's a good safe.
Alright, in terms of creativity and capturing something fresh and original, this film really fails to do that, but as a film in general, then yes, it worked for me. I am a huge Queen fan and I mostly don't agree with the fact that people dislike an entire film just because of its innacurasies but with this film, I can understand that alot more. If you go into this film wanting an extremely hard R rated biopic about Queen and their lead singer, Freddie Mercury, then I wouldn't get your hopes up. For the most part, that PG-13 rating is covered up with brilliant performances by the actors and a very gripping and interesting story, despite it being largely in accurate, but at certain parts, the film rely needed to go all out with the viewing of Freddie Mercury's lifestyle. All of the party sequences felt very dumbed down compared to reality. The positives however make up for all that. These are star stunning performances from all the cast involved, especially Rami Malek, who deserves that oscar. The film's story is surprisingly engaging and interesting despite some of its innacurasies. Whilst yes, I would've liked to see more of what happened after the film's climax, which is Live Aid, that is a fan want and I will not consider it a criticism. As a Queen fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and really brought Queen back to the new generation like myself. Whilst yes, the film realistically should've been rated R and could've been alot more accurate, it still succeeds by having brilliant performances and an engaging and emotional story, despite it being mostly innacurate. Highly recommended.
Elvis (2022)
Truly Incredible
Let me start off this review by saying that I am quite the Elvis fan, so I do not know whether people's opinions of this film will differ depending on whether you're a fan of his music or not, but for me, this film was brilliant. Austin Butler, what more do I have to say about him. He has completely soled himself for this role, and I'll tell you what, it payed off. His performance truly embodied Elvis Presley and did not come across as just an actor doing an impression, I will be very surprised if he does not get at least nominated for an Oscar. Tom Hanks is also brilliant in the film as well. He really seemed like he was having the time of his life playing Col. Tom Parker. I also really enjoyed Olivia Dejone as Priscilla Presley. Baz Luhrmann's directing and style does take a little bit to get used to but after the first 10-15 minutes or so, you get used to it. The film is also visually stunning and makes great use of its soundtrack by blending modern songs and classical songs together. If you are a huge Elvis fan, then chances are, you'll be coming out of this film very emotional. The story itself gets very sad in the film's final 25-30 minutes or so. This film must be experienced on the big screen, it truly is an incredibly made film and biopic about the king of rock 'n' roll. I can definitely see this film either getting nominated or possibly even winning a few awards. 8/20.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Shouldn't have been this good!
Alright, tell me this, was anyone really excited about this? No. Everybody, including myself, thought that this was going to be a cheesy cashgrab, but boy were we wrong! This show has touched the hearts of so many teenagers that are being bullied and really teaches them the right and wrong way to deal with it, we needed this show now more then ever when it comes to that aspect. Everything about this show is excellent, the writing, acting, characters, music, action and the story, it's got a lot of great emotional moments as well that I'm sure a lot of us didn't expect. There's been Four seasons of this thing and not a single episode has disappointed me. Frankly the shows cinematography is a bit flat due to it being a TV series so it's natural that it would look a bit to clean. There are a few moments to where it becomes a bit too cheesy or corny but It comes with the characters' age so it's natural for them to have problems with schools and their relationships. Overall an excellent TV series that bring back the franchise perfectly. Highly recommended! 👍
No Time to Die (2021)
A fitting end for Daniel Craig as Bond.
This film was very well done. It had a great cast, soundtrack and great action sequences. The negatives are that the villain's motives aren't very clear. He really needed more screen time to develop his character but he has great scenes with Bond and the dialogue between the two is great! Daniel Craig delivers an incredible and emotional performance as James Bond in this film. It was nice to see an emotional side of Bond compared to some of the very first few films. If you've been watching Bond for a long time then you will probably enjoy this film and find it very emotional. Well done Craig. The next Bond has some serious shoes to fill.
Dune (2021)
Enjoyed it as a film, but felt it should have been a series.
This film has great performances, directing and cinematography but as a story, I feel that it was too long to be split into two films (the second part greenlight for October 2023). If the story had been split into a six part mini series on HBO Max then maybe it would've been even better because they could tell even more story. I'm never really one to say " it should've been a series" to everything but this is one of the rare cases to where I thought it should've been. Still a very well put together film over all.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
One of the best sequels I've ever seen
This is how horror films should be. 1 and a half hours with plenty of focus on suspense other then gore in that time. It's a very character based film. Don't expect a lot of big CGI fights because it focuses on how our returning and new characters are dealing with this apocalypse. Fantastic directing, editing, score and performances. This film really was worth the wait.
The Addams Family 2 (2021)
Generic
I've seen plenty of films like this before and all of them are the boring, dragged out pieces of rubbish that they are. The Addams Family 2 is quite possibly one of the worst films I've seen all year. It's not funny, the story is generic and sets up a minor other story in the film but in the end it didn't really matter. Kids will also likely get bored of this film. Truely one of the most unoriginal films I've seen in a long time. The points that are good are that it was the tiniest bit fun having the Addams in there and I enjoyed most of the performances but other then that I'd stay well away from this film.
