Wolf Girl (2001)
Who can say no to Tim Curry and Grace Jones?!
Only Tim Curry and Grace Jones could have pulled this one off! Never judge a DVD by its cover! The cover implies that it's a werewolf movie, but really it's a drama surrounding a VERY hairy girl. Poor thing never figured out that all she needed was some good shaving cream and a sharp razor. At the very least, this film demonstrates what it would be like to be part of a traveling freak show. It would have been MUCH more believable if it were completely set in the distant past instead of having a gypsy clan collide with a modern day town. Costumes were most excellent and the freaks were freaky, but story lines strayed far from the plot. A must see for Tim Curry or Grace Jones fans. Wolf girl becomes wolf woman and is not afraid to show us her goods, but this movie had the worst ending of all time even though wolf girl goes through a complete character change! UG!
Drowning Mona (2000)
A fun cheap DVD - Contains Spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie especially since everyone drives a Yugo and I am easily amused. Mona Dearly (Bette Midler) and her family are so nasty! If you pull up into her driveway, she'll smash out the head light on your Yugo with a golf club and kick your car as you back out. When you get out of range, she'll throw the club at your Yugo and try to break the windsheild. What a B! It's no wonder she ended up dead. I think this campy who-done-it is worth seeing because it has an all star cast and cheezy humor. There are interesting story lines that get revisited and expanded upon as the movie progresses, specifically about who killed Mona and who witnessed the deed. Not to give away the ending...but who DIDN'T kill Mona?! Jamie Lee was great as a sleazy waitress but I thought Casey Aflecks wig was as bad as his acting.
The Terror (1963)
Great for insomniacs
I bought the DVD for the Little Shop of Horrors and was pleasently surprised to find it was a double feature with The Terror. I watched it with no expectations and ended up enjoying the movie. If this were a modern day movie, all involved would be laughed out of the box office. Their attempt to throw in a few catsup filled gore scenes and several lame twists at the end made it comical enough to sit through. And how about that young and dapper Jack Nicholson?! This is one to watch in the middle of the night when you can't sleep, and it's worth watching at least once. I had to know how it would end.
