Probably the fastest moving historical epic made. The finale (storming of the castle) is one of the great action scenes in movie history. It concludes with the most spectacular of all swordfights ever filmed. The finale is the best of all Viking funerals. I believe the footage has been used in other films including SOB. The photography by Jack Cardiff is stupendous. The picture and sound of the trumpets announcing the arrival of the Viking ships home has stayed with me since I first saw this film in 1958. I don't believe there is a single wasted scene in this film. When will the DVD be out?
