Spaceballs (1987)
Awesome
"Spaceballs" is a great movie. It's more than just a "Star Wars"
parody, it's a parody of everything that has had to do with
entertainment and space within the last number of years. And who
can go wrong with Mel Brooks? He's done many films, but I think
this one has become one of the most well known as well as one
of the most liked. It's a little tacky, yes, but its purpose is still well
served.
Very few parody films are made these days, which makes me even
further enjoy "Spaceballs". May the Schwartz be with you!
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
You haven't seen a movie, until you've seen "Bill and Ted"
How can I describe "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"? First of
all, it's a blast to watch. And why shouldn't it be? It's got all the
makings of a good movie. The characters are well thought out and
well developed, settings fit the storyline, dialogue is well
conformed, everything seems to work for Bill and Ted.
The idea of time travel is something that Hollywood has toyed with
for years on end. Probably the most famous films about this were
the "Back to the Future" movies. I feel that "Bill and Ted's Excellent
Adventure" deserves more credit when it comes to this. Sure, a
car is a real way to travel, but a phone booth is something that isn't
seen very much these days, and why not get the most out of them!
Most adults do not like this movie, but why? I mean, after all,
there's plenty of nutty stuff going on, but these guys still need to get
an A on their History report or they're finished.
Bottom line is, this is a well balanced film. It was made for teens
and it's easy to see why. Nevertheless, why focus on that? Enjoy
the way these two make their way through time and beat the odds
to not only get the grade, the girls, and their well deserved respect,
but enjoy watching them have a blast doing it. Then, you'll wanna
party on, dude!!
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The true fear, is within ourselves
"The Blair Witch Project" is not about drenching the audience with blood and gore, of terrorizing them through the film. Well, okay, maybe the second one, but it's much more than a horror movie. It is a crude but tolerable display of an emotion that each one of us holds dear in our hearts...fear. Everyone fears something, no matter how big or small or important or insignificant it may be. This movie toys on that emotion to the fullest extent. You do not watch "The Blair Witch Project", you feel it. We live in a world that is fully dominated by technology, and money. With "The Blair Witch Project", that is not the case. It was made on a shoestring budget, and used some of the simplest filmaking techniques around. Yet, it shows us that no matter what we may see when it comes to horror, the greatest creator of fear is our own imaginations. And in a day and age where technology is king, queen, prince, and the rest of the dynasty, "The Blair Witch Project" proves that the stuff out there that really scares the pants off of us is what we don't see.
Shrek (2001)
"Shrek" is everything that a great movie should be
I was a bit skeptical before I first saw "Shrek". It had so much hype from everyone I knew who had seen it, and whenever I encounter that, I immediately think the worst. Most films of that nature do not live up to that hype...but this one not only lives up to it, but far surpasses it. This is a must watch for anyone in need of a laugh. Big green ogres? A fantasy land peopled by so called "fairy tail creatures"? Yup, it happened. And why not? The viewing public was overdue for a film such as this, and it got what it had coming. The computer animated film is virtually flawless to the eye, and the storyline is both clever and utterly hilarious. The cast of all star voices backs up state of the art technology to create a film that will live on for years to come as a great masterpiece and breakthrough in the art of filmmaking. Really? Yes, really really!
MASK (1985)
This T.V. show was awesome!
"M.A.S.K." (the abbreviated form of an organization called "Mobile Armored Strike Kommand") was an increadible show at its time. How I wish shows of this calibur were created still today.
This show was a pioneer in the animation business of world crime fighting shows. Along with a handful of others, there occured a revoultion in the mid-1980s and a craving for shows like "M.A.S.K." What I mainly enjoyed about the show was the fact that the storylines and plots were simple, but at the same time provided plenty of entertainment over the course of it's 30 minutes (probably around 22 after commercials). The characters were also well thought out and very fun to watch. But in reality, I don't know if I'd want them saving me! Nevertheless, "M.A.S.K." was a great show. Of the original 65 episodes, just over half made in onto VHS video cassette. These tapes are now collectors items, as well as the dozens of action figures that accompanied the show. Recently, there have been rumors circulation reguarding a "M.A.S.K. Movie", due out sometime within the next few years. At best, a long shot...better to dream about the T.V. show of the past. But maybe...just maybe...
Citizen Kane (1941)
The best
"Citizen Kane" is the best film ever made. It's a two hour course on how to create a great movie. Interestingly enough, Orson Welles was a young director who was frustrated at the time of release, due to the virtual banishment of the movie by Mr. William Randolph Hurst, of whom the film is based upon. Nevertheless, "Citizen Kane" lived on, and emerged as a success that will satisfy for years to come.
Rudy (1993)
A one of a kind inspirational movie for everyone
"Rudy" is an amazing film. It's the true story of Daniel E. "Rudy" Ruettiger, who's only dream in his small, simple life is to play football for the University of Notre Dame. Along the way, he tackles obstacles that seem as large as the dream his mind beholds, and eventually, overcomes the disbelief of everyone around him to become a success. Rarely do movies possess a storyline and is so palpable to the viewer. Rudy's indignation fuels his will to go on, and creates a feel good movie for audiences of all ages.
"Rudy" ranks up with other great dramatic sport films and documentaries, like "Rocky" and even "Hoop Dreams", but this one is a keeper.
