Alien (1979)
Confused
I finally decided to watch this since it's considered such a classic horror/sci-fi film, and having seen the generous rating, I went in with fairly high expectiations.
Needless to say from my personal rating and headline, I was left quite confused.
Towards the end of the film, I felt frustrated and wishing for it to hurry up and end already, so I could more clearly identify all the things in this film I didn't enjoy.
The rest of this review will contain heavy spoilers:
Dallas was perhaps the most interesting character of the group. He was the one leading the charge, coming up with the plans and was doing everything he could to keep everyone safe, so I was left completely shocked when they killed him off half way through the movie.
His death was not satisfying, nor meaningful. A character we got to learn so much about (at least more so than the others) died a pointless death, and left us to wonder how the remaining survivors would manage without him. Which of course, they couldn't.
Without Dallas, the group is left terrified and/or useless, with the exception of Ripley - who is a good character on her own, but it's difficult to make a good character shine when there are no other likeable characters for her to interact with.
The second main point I would like to bring up, is the predictability of Ash being a traitor, and the sheer ridiculousness of the whole scenario. It is acceptable to believe that the voyagers are expected to investigate any SOS signal, but for the mission to be some kind of execution to learn about the alien, is simply stupid.
There is just too much that could go wrong with such an expedition, that the entire premise of the film comes into serious question.
Now this alone doesn't mean the film has to be unenjoyable, but it absolutely must be critiqued.
And finally, my last main problem with the movie is quite a rare issue, and that was just how physically straining the film was to watch.
Expect frustratingly loud transitions just for the sake of it, and bright lights flashing for unnecessarily long times, because Alien incorporates these generously.
At some points, I had to literally shut my eyes because the lights would not stop flashing, and since I knew that nothing would happen during these times, I had no problem doing so.
In addition to this, it will be completely silent on one scene, and then *THUNK*, oh, someone just dropped an oxygen tank during your transition. Why was that left in? I don't know. Loud = scary I suppose.
I could go on, but I've already covered the main points. Personally I wouldn't recommend this film, but due to its high rating you may have a better experience than I did.

I don't give 10's often
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE BASKETBALL TO ENJOY THIS!!
This show is all about the characters. How well each character interacts with each other, how diverse and interesting every basketball team is, and how the characters grow.
Seriously, the generation of miracles is one of the most well thought-out group of characters, with each student continuously fighting for the position of favourite character. Not to mention Teppei, Hyuga, Kagami... It's just a smorgasbord of excellent characters which blend perfectly together, and build up to one of my favourite endings of all time.
Great show. Do yourself a favour and watch this!
