Lord Bute!
30 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My 6 stars are for: sumptuous costumes and scenery, the occasional laugh aloud moments, the fascinating young Brimsley and the hilariously played Lord Bute (my two favorite characters).

Also, I applaud the unusually good job of giving us actors who were believable as younger versions of everyone with whom we had become familiar.

Question: what about Reynolds? ... did he lose his job? Find someone new? Maybe we'll know eventually, but I have a feeling the answer is forever locked away in Brimsley's memories.

Episode 4 .... so much repetition from previous episodes. Very frustrating to watch.

IN CONCLUSION I hope in future I get to see a lot more of Lord Bute. Seriously, his facial expressions made the whole show worthwhile. Love you, Bute!

Bizarre, plodding Relationship Horror flick
18 September 2022
Interesting visuals, most of the acting was decent, the pace felt slow. The take-away: between men and women there are only two possible outcomes and they're both negative.

1. If a man is smitten and marries a woman, she proceeds to manipulate him, love him to exhaustion, or both. She gaslights him into submission or acts nonstop hungry for him, seemingly sucking the very life out of him with her demanding lips.

2. Lucky is the man who remains unmarried. That man can pat himself on the back and feel pity for all the married men who are - one and all - being tormented by their controlling/soul-sucking wives.

Even Lemmon, a talented comedic actor, couldn't pull off making these assumptions humorous. I didn't feel like laughing, I was just creeped out by the relationship between Stanley and."Mrs. Ford" (who doesn't seem to get a first name).

I think I aged more than 2 hours watching this
7 August 2022
All I can guess is that the high reviews are due to people having romantic feelings about the premise. After the first hour dragged on forever I had a look at reviews. User cekadah advised viewers not to waste their time, but also mentioned Ford's part was good, so I compromised and instead of quitting, I fast forwarded to the part where he shows up.

Cekadah was correct, Harrison Ford was terrific. As absurd as it would have been, the chemistry between he and Adaline had me wishing they could somehow get back together. He was truly a pleasure to watch.

As for the rest - Bleaghhhhhh. With a capital B for Boring. The romance wasn't even interesting. My 3 stars is generous and I'd go lower if it weren't for Ford. Once I hit the submit button on this review I won't remember this movie - a long game of Trivial Pursuit would be a much better use of time.

Try it, you'll like it!

Since most of the reviews seem to be from people recalling it from their youth, and the last review is 2 years old, I'm jumping in to say this program 100% holds up 70 years later. I happened to come across a dvd that had just 4 episodes and I found it to be really entertaining. The dvd I watched even included the original advertisements - "Stopette!" LOL

I wish I had access to many more of the episodes, it's a fun time-pass with lots of laughs and you'll walk away with a smile on your face.
