Black Mirror: Joan Is Awful (2023)
Season 6, Episode 1

Black Mirror's back and as good as ever
16 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is as meta as you can get, and focuses around a streaming conglomerate named Streamberry (Remind you of something?). Joan is shocked to discover her entire life was turned into a streaming show, featuring an AI look-alike of Salma Hayek. Joan decides to do something utterly humiliating in hope that Salam Hayek will quit, and the show will end. Salma Hayek finds Joan and they both decide to take down Streamberry. There's only one problem. The Joan we've been following isn't the real Joan, but instead a CGI Annie Murphy, in a TV show in the real Joan's universe. Joan decides to take down the Streamberry machine regardless of the outcome, and Annie Murphy Joan realizes there's nothing she can do from stopping Joan. Cut to Annie Murphy and the real Joan who are being arrested. It's later revealed the two are on house arrest.

This episode was overall a great premise executed well. It felt like an episode of Black Mirror and reaches similar heights to one's before it. This is also one of the few Black Mirror episodes that has a "good" ending. The only other one's that come to mind are San Junipero and Hang The DJ (although the Hang The DJ ending is more questionably good). Overall I'm excited to continue Black Mirror season 6.

I'm speechless-!
2 June 2023
SPOILER FREE REVIEW: Well, just left the theater for Spider-Man Across the spider verse and wow! I'm speechless. Always been a fan of into the spider verse and this film expanded upon everything the first spider verse film setup and more. You laugh, you cry and above all you smile. I don't think I smiled more in a movie. And the animation style somehow outdid into the spider verse's. Which I didn't even think was possible. Something about this film that is gonna but a lot of people however is the massive cliffhanger ending, however it just gives me more time to build up hype for beyond the spider verse. Anyways I love this movie, and go see it!

Exceptional conclusion to a great action franchise
11 May 2023
Wow, that was something. John Wick: Chapter 4 exceeds at what makes this franchise so sensational. Action scene after action scene, with plenty of gore mixed with a (surprisingly) good story.

Despite the long runtime this is Mr. Wick's grandest film, in a near perfect action tetralogy, with an ending that perfectly fits the film. Sad, yet necessary, and the execution is next to flawless.

The only thing that could ruin this is a fifth installment. Come on, Hollywood I'm praying you don't try to make some easy money on an unnecessary film.

My only recommendation to you is to watch this film before it leaves theaters. You won't regret it, I promise.

This film is way better than everyone makes it out to be
11 May 2023
It seems as though this film has gotten a lesser response from audiences than critics. I think this film knew that it wouldn't appeal to everyone.

With all films of recent being sci-fi, action-packed blockbusters, it seems as though audiences today can't connect with a deep message.

The films score, screenplay, and acting create an eerie, thought provoking experience for some viewers, while other consider it a disorganized mess.

While I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece by any means, I don't think it was trying to be one. It was trying to push a profound message onto these ADHD filled audiences that won't be contempt without an action scene every five minutes.

And, for me, it succeeded. It felt like a mix of Doctor Strange and Eternal Sunshine. Grabbing some of the best and most thought provoking elements from both.

Although it's not the best film, and sure, it does lack in certain areas, I consider this to be the best film of 2022, not my favorite per say, but the best.

Good, but not as good as the web series.
24 September 2022
Full disclaimer: I love DHMIS, and I love everything about the web series. I also like this. So with that out of the way, let's get into my nitpicks

1. Length - I feel as though it was drawn out compared to say the original where the longest episode was 10 minutes and was entertaining throughout.

2. Comprehension - While, yes, the original one wasn't that comprehensible either, but was still easy to follow along with, which is where this suffers. Especially toward the end.

3. Lore - Theories were a big part of the original DHMIS, and the lore was packed throughout. The story moved forward, while every episode in this starts as a clean slate. Plus, it's hard to see where this would fit into the timeline. Especially with the brilliant end to the first one. This is June 20th, but still feels like we're stuck on the 19th. Plus Roy was very underused in this, and a lot of the lore seems to contradict nearly every theory people came up with for the first one.

And that's all I have to say. Just a few nitpicks I have with the new show. Once again I did thoroughly enjoy this series, especially the last two episodes, but this just isn't as good as the web series.
