Mile 22 (2018)
Obvious foreign influence in the production
Now I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories, but I believe the Asian production companies had major influence on the creation on this movie which sunk it from the beginning. I would describe it as a film foreigners think Americans would like but they miss on every effort except for the action/fight scenes. Oh we should have family drama, let's throw in an angry divorced mom and some random app for no reason. Americans enjoy swearing, so throw some darts at random curse words and pepper them into the dialogue even if it doesn't make sense and just sounds cringey. You guys ever see Seven? Yeah, let's throw in a plot twist at the end. We want to make our money back in the Asian territories, so let's not even say what country this is but make sure the Russians are the bad guys (or are they?). There is no way anyone can justify this as a good movie, and if they do on here I bet they were involved in creating this mess.
Faster (2010)
Wait for the DVD..... only if you really like The Rock
Review will contain some spoilers.
Caught this movie today, and I can't help but be incredibly disappointed. I'm a big fan of action movies - The Transporter, Shoot 'Em Up, etc. so I was looking forward to this one, as I also like The Rock.
So where did this movie go wrong? Virtually everywhere. The way the movie was laid out (Day 1, Day 2) had absolutely no point to it. Neither did giving The Rock, Billy Bob, and The Killer the titles. It felt like someone got their first version of Final Cut and wanted to play with some of the title features.
Billy Bob contained virtually every cop cliché seen in films - he's a few days away from retiring, he's addicted to drugs, he's on the outs with his wife/family, and he's the bad guy. Really? The entire mood of the film pointed towards him being the bad guy even before the absurdly long close-up of his wife and Gary in the old photo.
The Killer was a completely pointless character. They show this wide array of weapons being packed, a relationship wife his now-wife, and it was all for nothing. The man has a sniper rifle, yet simply looks at The Rock from afar? Yeah, that's what a professional would do. And he would certainly not keep a low-profile driving such an exotic car, right? Let's not forget the classic Bond-villain long-drawn speech that leads to the main character (eventually) getting free. And then the guy just walks off? That's it? What a waste. The ONLY thing I found interesting is the $1 he charges, as he had them framed on his wall during the also- pointless yoga scene.
So what about the fight scenes? Yeah, that's a question, because there was only one and it lasted roughly 15 seconds. Rock follows guy, shoots guy, then leaves. Where's the fun in that?
Let's not forget the lack of any kind of depth to the situation. We know the pastor spent his money on women and drugs, but what about everyone else? What was the cut? Why didn't Rock go after Gary's ex-girlfriend? Why couldn't he have killed Deb so she's not in Dexter anymore? How did not a single person recognize him in the hospital?
Come to think of it, I am being incredibly generous giving this thing a 4. Incredibly generous.
Diary of the Dead (2007)
Don't waste your time
As someone who has never seen a Romero film, I decided to go into this one with an open mine. Sure, probably not the best film to see first from his series, but my roommate had to watch it, so I decided to give it a shot.
In not being familiar with the franchise/universe/etc., a lot of things did not make sense to me. People die... and come back as zombies? Without having to be infected? Why does this happen? The movie does not even come close to explaining this. We have one scene at the end where an individual slowly turns into a zombie from a bite - and seems to be stuck in some kind of transitional phase. The little brother zombie clings to his sister's back for what seems like at least a half minute without even attempting to bite her, just going along for the ride.
The acting in this film if HORRENDOUS. I'd have to say with the exception of Mary, it's the most nonchalant group of individuals running away from the undead that I've ever seen. Take in part the hospital scene, where a character says ".... I've killed a man. I've killed three people" in the most unemotional way possible. A lot of the dialog is just there - it doesn't help the film movie, it just eats up screen time. The CGI effects seem straight out of a Nintendo64 game, there's not nearly enough action, and it's simply boring. It's not a smart movie talking about current events, people are trying to give this movie way more credit than it deserves (which is none).
Plot = terrible. Acting = even worse than terrible. Women = hot
