Noroi (2005)

This movie shocked me!

I don't usually write many reviews for movies but this one deserves it. It had perfect pacing, was confusing in all the right ways so you never know what's going to happen, the acting was superb (especially the psychic Nori), & it leaves you with a sense of extreme discomfort after the end. I say it all the time, the Japanese have perfected the horror genre. This is a found footage/documentary type film (before it gained popularity after Paranormal Activity), & being made in 2005 (not 2017 like Shudder says), I believe it was the first horror film to use the deep bass sound that vibrates sheer terror for the viewer. As a warning, there are some scenes with dogs being shown deceased, at the 1 hr 31 min, 1 hr 39 min, & 1 hr 46 min mark, just a head's up about that. This movie was excellent, watch until the end, there's a scene in the woods that was so shocking I had to pause the movie and just sit & process what I saw on the screen!

Closed School (2019)

Solid horror film

I watched this as a risk due to the fact there's no actual written reviews on here about this movie. I'm a huge fan of horror films especially from Asia. This one didn't disappoint. There's not a huge amount of jump scares, but what's really scary is the fact that what occurs in the movie is so realistic. Those things are based in reality on what happens in Korean prep schools. The horrific bullying and violence in schools got a little better during the pandemic, but it is now worse than it's ever been. That's what is truly scary, that the absolutely abhorrent and shocking behavior shown happens in real life, sometimes even worse than what was in the film. I did have an issue with how justice is served in the film towards the end, for some it may be very satisfying and will have no issues with it but for me I wanted even more based on how angry I felt at what happened to Miok. That's why I rated it 8/10.

Suicide Forest Village (2021)

Very scary in the parts that matter

I thought this film had excellent acting, really amazing high quality CGI effects, and the scary parts were actually terrifying. It's by the director of "Ju-On", or "The Grudge" which the Japanese version will always haunt me. It even had HBO's "The Last of Us" vibes and the overall storyline was excellent. It is slow in some parts but like I said, when the scary scenes happen they make the movie. I actually cringed in fear a couple times which it takes a lot for me to do! Not sure why it got some negative reviews, maybe they wanted more action, but to be a truly scary film, it has to have subtle fear that really digs into your soul. I've watched countless horror films and this was something definitely different and refreshing.

Shackled (2023)

Boring Nonsense!!

I don't even know what I just watched. Throughout the entire film the acting was bad, the story was choppy, there was no action at ALL, just her in the truck trying to break free. That's it. Don't waste your time with this one people. I was bored to tears. I wish I would have waited until more reviews came out about this film, so by writing this I'm trying to save you all 87 minutes of your time and I recommend watching literally anything else. In the trailer it says it got all these independent film awards. Don't be fooled. Movies this bad have to put that in to get people to watch it. The ending also sucked, trying to show a twist when it just angers the audience. Rule #1 of filmmaking is don't piss off the audience you're trying to impress!

Day of Disappearance (2022)

Good for a low budget film set in Hilo, Hawaii

I really enjoyed this movie! I've watched countless found footage films & it's my favorite horror genre. David is a very likable nerdy character & you root for him the whole movie in the hopes he can figure out what's going on.

I almost forgot he was acting, he appeared very genuine & down to earth. Even taking care of a stray cat he accidentally hit with his car & bringing him home from the vet to recover (cat is okay the whole movie, don't worry). The storyline is slow the first half but it's not like nothing happens that's paranormal, but I will say this: you have to watch the movie closely or you'll miss the good parts.

I removed one star because the glare off David's glasses prevented me from seeing his expressive eyes for half the movie. An actor uses their entire face to convey all sorts of emotions, so for example, if a character was wearing dark sunglasses for that long, it's annoying & distracting.

All in all I thought it was a good movie and the actor who plays David did an excellent job.

I'm Haunted (2022)

Very slow burn with hardly anything going on

I don't understand how this movie could get a 6 out of 10 rating. Unless the actors or employees did positive reviews. The acting was terrible, the lead actress was not believable and very annoying, and this movie looked like it was done for a class project. I can appreciate low budget films IF the storyline is good, there's adequate character development, and enough suspense to keep you engaged. But this didn't have any of that. Nothing happened the entire movie, wasn't scared at all, and I even chuckled at the supposed scary parts. If you like slow burn films then maybe this is for you but watch at your own risk.

Warning (II) (2021)

Most boring movie I've ever seen

I typically love sci-fi and think Thomas Jane is a great actor, but this movie was so boring I had trouble even staying awake. Don't waste your time. The plot is so slow, the characters are annoying, and there is no connection to them, so I didn't care if they lived or died. That's a very bad sign of either writing, directing, or both. It seemed to take itself way too seriously and the people who gave it better ratings had to be part of the cast or crew. If something had happened that had more action or even a fight scene to keep things interesting, maybe I would have watched the whole thing. But it's only dialogue for the vast majority of the movie. So many missed opportunities with this film, but if you pass on it you're not missing anything at all.

Chicago Med (2015– )

Misinformation machine

Chicago Med is a disgrace of a tv show, I can't believe it's still on. The way they portray one particular illegal drug that's been the buzzword on tv for the last 2 years is laughable at best. Ask any toxicologist & they say medical dramas on tv don't put out factual information. Case in point: Will Halstead wore a shirt that got white powder on it. Somehow, it magically got into his bloodstream and he passed out from "exposure". Yeah suuuuure. Not chemically or physically possible & has been widely debunked by actual doctors.

Why is this show still on the air? Probably because Dick Wolf has a monopoly over tv, and what he says goes, even if the medical information is completely made up but put out as factual. All the Law & Orders that are produced by him are also an example of that. I've stopped watching anything produced or directed by Dick and you should too.

Resident Evil (2022)

Had high hopes for this.....

The worst parts of this series: acting is awful, the teens are bratty and entitled, Evelyn has way too much filler in her face and the CGI looks like it was done 15 years ago.

The best part of this series? Pablo the chihuahua.
