The Martian (2015)
USA sterotype
Upon another view, yeah got tired of the stereotype gen z rubric. Got it right unfortunately. A deflation to see the sophistication of science lost. Guess somehow derive complicated math and high tech instrumentation and metallurgy all the while saying, "dude, that's awesome" "Not eating? Dude what up with your Bopo?"
Ah, USA. But, since can't get outta here, we review.
Acting... I read the book. Interesting problems with this irritating character. So... cringing to see translation to movie. Yeah. Kept the irritation.
Some science scenes good; couldn't be glib when about to die I guess. Got the latest trend to Blair incongruent irritating music during a solemn scene and running it. And full tacks, keeping with the new canceled trend.. That is so awesome
And, if a prop is overacting, then... about couldn't take any more of the
juxtaposition. On eating... a cut green been morsel and he's talking with his mouth full, and chewing for about five minutes and can't even talk. Really bothersome. Yeah, about right!
Code 8: Part II (2024)
Part II usually comes after a Part I
This is a basically a different, stand alone movie story. We figured it would continue involving first movie. Gee, maybe even continue continuity with first movie? I don't know... when see a "Part II", think will pick up where last move paused.
We no nothing on why or how the five years were done by main character. The Garret character was thrown in, but... what happened to "The Healer"? Now a (plot) hole new story line. Not even related.
New story with the main character taking long pause to answer a question after is asked. Just stands there. Then, finds new Moe character, no back story, unrelated to Part 1, and again... stands there, keeps walking into shed, she freaks out, "I'm not coming in", because you already did? Yeah, good acting- just don't say anything to someone frightened. Like she's hungry. Finally figured what that meant, but nothing in place (SO make a plan to fix it!)
The signal to lag time in a question continues; just can't really get coherent. And the let's erase memories bit. Only need to erase one, but may as well eliminate had a brother all together, which will only create havoc later when encounter objects, variables, people familiar.... We don't know. Maybe at least have an idea before working hard at making sure a sequel will be bad.
Wish someone would erase Netflix memories for us!
Masters of the Air (2024)
turned out inspiring
And stops you to think. Maybe because realize this is based on real people and history.
Also, actually base in England is still there. It's a museum now, somewhat fixed up tower (don't know that some was fixed/filmed there on location and then left).
Worth following up on some such as "Rosie", who actually did 52 missions, and stayed on to help others.
"Crosby" actually went on and had an interesting life, academics, teaching, CIA, Foreign Service.
And others. Some experienced the plight of the Aircrews captured and escaping from POW through French Resistance and what means. And then, back at 100th base Imperial War Museum Duxford's American Air Museum in England
Hard to imagine that was going on, one day, one minute just as being shown, as look at real base. Tower and some buildings still there. One day, they were flying in and out of runway, wondering about missions, telling stories right there. Just such a day, staff were actually up in the tower watching. A whole different time, happening just that moment once. Then, had a last day and left the base.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
As I was saying...
Yeah, the decline in MCU "quality" continues! (Disney gotta be proud).
Just when you think couldn't get any worse, that writers/production must be deliberately degrading it; down it goes!
Avengers Civil War used a no excuse plot hole just because someone wanted to use that story theme... to use no logic, but simply to create a whole main story, nay, universe on buildings get destroyed during a fight with Avengers fighting alien invasion... sign an accord... some even believe aliens should not have been so hostile, so as to fight other Avengers members (what?) just so can have a civil war theme movie by irrationally get them to do it (what?)
Ah, then Universe degrades even more... Thor, with 2nd grade writing (guess so majority of audience will buy a ticket (okay. Never mind then. But, what?)
Heavy metal costume Thor wears, heavy metal noise playing, again in MCU movies (oh that's right. So majority of country will see it I guess). Supports the mentality does it, for the bong basement 20 something, no... not living in parents basement. Parent already in last mentality generation. (scratch that). So... the bong 15 old with 20 something in government hotel room... will see it.
Can't think will get even worse. Oh, wait... seen DC Aquaman 2? Like going from intellectual humor (e.g. Robin Williams) to trunk acts and bathroom jokes. But... easy to write and will get more people (oh, okay then). In this degraded level of consciousness place. Maybe... bring back drive-in movies, but have to accommodate the bro trucks, and good luck turning off engines and the 20 row banks of halogen head lights.
Can anyone trade passports with me so I can get to a better country and people? (just ask most of Europe, UK, Canada, Australia). Please?
For All Mankind (2019)
Episode 9 Brazil
For example, this episode. Had the good change in direction, yet isn't it still a bit forced to make a great twist but explained by what seems a plot hole may leave the ones looking for explanations wondering? (True, and how many are there that pick up detail at the expense of being such Marvel cinematic connoisseurs?).
Well done on the Margo friend twist. Then just like that, the Asteroid subplot going on is immediately extinguished because.... a device found on a N. Korean surveillance screen(?)
I mean, weak reason just so could write in a dilemma. And, not tested for static on a screen first? Commander talks with N. Korean to look it up, never mind why was N. Korea spying on entire base? Nah, ignore that.
Just look up part, report goes to earth, Intelligence spies take over, with wrong assumption, and that's that(?)
Oh, and where's anyone grabbing Dev to talk to? No where around. Bummer. Wanted the intrigue created to have backing.
The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (2023)
Good formula...
Courtroom drama, acting, pacing....
Based off a very old movie perhaps locked in some of the script parameters, and is good content.
Just either an upsetting over the legal system nonsense, which probably is authentic, but quite an exploit in rules of evidence and objections. Example, can have witness but can't say have witness(?) And other convoluted facts that get obfuscated and... you know what!?
Just give the facts!
You want to hear details on what transpired? You want content and substance?
The OMG, "do it then Judge!", must be the carrying sentiments.
Castin is abusive and crazy making and finally a conclusion is made, which has been obvious!
Yet have a Defense Attorney deflecting any rational evidence.
You know, what is sad and true is: With out a trial, he'd still be in power and hurting people. And, the Navy would even give him a medal for such "seamanship". Sad and true. "Have to be good to get promoted..." What BS. Who they know and the "ring knockers. Not merit (Like other businesses!:)
Like.. Corporate America.
Keep failing upward!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Under the Cloak of War (2023)
(Finally content again...
...hope it isn't too late).
It was a great episode for material and writing (almost want to say, no cartoons, no apron cladded cooking for a change, no gen z incongruence juxtaposition display in writing and delivery).
Interesting... (was deliberate?) even Uhura's usual abstract, off-timing siliques were rather debated (humm....)
Lines like, "you have the luxury..." versus the factual sentiments, as with M'Beng vs. Pike; must of been deliberate writing. (Pike's usual "so progressive", head of the hollywood mentality pack... political career Admirals statements, didn't even have actually validation).
(Thank you Babs).
Oh, and interesting.... an episode NOT written/directed by usual Akiva, Kurtzman, Frakes lot. That couldn't have done anything right? Nah, (they must of been busy with Kennedy that week. Yeah!)
Thank you.
See: The House of Enlightenment (2022)
Say it isn't so...!
Been following along. Hopeful third season. Excusing the deliberate(?) plot hole so far.
Been ignoring even the Queen Maghra irritation more.
But... secret mission to destroy bombs, so get there bit don't destroy the bombs (do the writes really think such a prank really works to keep it going? Guess must. Average 8th grade mentality wouldn't notice. Only keep mouth breathing).
But, really. End up with an epic siege. They kill all the troops, but couldn't get the bombs. Ah, right. Oh, and then, out of all the troops destroyed, but Tormada disappears. Of course he does! (instant plot material continuing).
And then, just for more no reason absurdity, some reaction in writing better than sense I guess, Tofu burns the only library. Haniwa even tries to shoot him. But Tofu, sporting his "sideshow Bob" hairdo, Can't believe she wouldn't want it all burned! I mean why object to nonsense? Of all the nerve Haniwa.
So... looks like back to plot holes, and no one objects. Carry on!
All the Old Knives (2022)
What? Film Noir and no Marvel/Disney production?
I give it high marks just to make something representative of a film Noir suspension; a lost art so was good just to see.
Now... set out to attempt that, but what was it? Was it something in the pacing that needs to happen for such thriller movies, but wasn't here? Seems this was known and so some devices were added in to substitute the ingredients. Actions that had no bearing. The backup hitman makes an appearance in the bathroom(?) and get care was to be sure and show the wet shoulder on the suit when walking back to table, because...?
And then plot holes, like, well, he was the one responsible for the airplane, so... why is he interviewing former agents? Just to get out of blame? Then, why is her after her? And to say that he hoped somehow the passengers would make it... gee, nice of you.
