Mr. Birchum: Welcome Back, Birchum! (2024)
Pleasantly surprised!
I like a lot of the Daily Wires content, but I do err on the side of caution when it comes to their television entertainment side of things. They could work on their trailers for the promotion of this show but it was not a terrible trailer, as far as trailers today go. It's a pretty wholesome, light-hearted comedy show with political tones. It reminds me of American Dad but it's more common sense conservative sibling. All the actors did a fantastic job, love Brett Cooper. Megyn Kelly did a great job as well, this is not her element but her character is funny and a little bit clueless, but well-intentioned. Gage is a hilarious character. Tyler did a great job at making his character seem annoying and preachy, mixed with a bit of air headedness. Sometimes you want to ring his neck and sometimes you just laugh at how ridiculous it is, and how relatable it is today. I think the episode could have been better but it's the beginning of the show so I have faith that I will continue to get better, the second episode is better than the first one. Can't wait for the third in a few days.
A Killer in the Family (1983)
A great movie
This movie is great, even though it's about a disgusting man and tragic true events.
James Spader is an amazing actor and watching his old movies and shows, you can tell that he's always had a gift. That gift really shines through in this thriller-drama. He really brings this character to life, even though he was a living person, and you can really feel this young man's frustrations; how he feels obligated to help even though he doesn't want to and he's been manipulated into thinking that he has to. His demise is so tragic and it's terrible that he ended up being a sort of accomplice to murder, including the murder of a baby, when all he was trying to do was make sure his brothers were okay. His life got uprooted and his father killed several more people despite his best efforts.
Robert did a great job portraying this sick and twisted man. You were never sure if he was going to just suddenly decide to kill his sons or not. He was great at playing a character who gaslights, manipulates, and kills basically for sport. I can't imagine how hard it is to portray someone who is so monstrous that they would kill an innocent family and their baby; yet he did it incredibly well.
Stuart did a great job as well, playing an annoyed but loyal sidekick.
Eric and Lance were great all around too.
I would absolutely recommend watching this movie even though it does have some heavy stuff in it, it's still thoroughly enjoyable. Not too anxiety inducing but there are points where your hearts racing a little.
I'm glad the father got what he deserved, I just wish Donny had not been so unlucky.
Endless Love (1981)
Not at all what I expected it to be
This movie feels like a minor car wreck, you're confused, concerned and you can't look away.
It started out as one would expect, a young love story. Two teens who behave as though they're older than they are and get emotionally attached to people that they shouldn't. Parents who tell them they need to take it slow.
Then it goes off in a different direction, instead of talking to the parents (like the adult he thinks he is) or waiting the month that the father asks him to, he sets their house on fire and they almost die?!..
Then he gets put into an institution for two years and Jade is just living her life. She didn't write him or call him or his parents at all. Understandably so.
He finds her mom and makes moves on her but then says that he's still in love with Jade and can't sleep with her (the mom). He finds Jade's name in the address book, tracks her down and goes to the city where she lives.
Then he goes to meet her and he sees her father as he's on his way to her apartment and her dad runs out into the street and gets hit. Then he runs from the scene and goes to meet her. They get into a heated discussion and end up sleeping together. I don't get that at all, I wouldn't sleep with someone who almost killed my family because they were mad they had to wait 30 days to see me. 🤷♀️
Then Keith (James Spader) gets into a fight with him because he found out that he was at the scene and then he tells Jade that and David doesn't even defend himself. He doesn't say his dad saw him walking on the street and then decided to run after him and then he got hit. He just lets everyone think that he intentionally killed him. I find the end to be rather confusing because he goes to jail and it wasn't his fault..
Anyways, definitely a crazy movie. 😂
Cocaine: One Man's Seduction (1983)
This movie feels like a PSA..
This movie feels like a PSA about drugs. 😂 It's not a bad movie, kind of fluffy despite the subject. Good actors and interesting.
You're not sure if he's going to quit or if he'll push his family away and keep using.
In all honesty, I watched this movie for Jimmy Spader and I will say, I was not disappointed. He's a great actor and plays a great character in this movie. A caring son who wants his dad to be happy and healthy.
It's a movie I might watch again if I wanted something light hearted with more serious undertones. I would recommend this movie to high school's instead of those goofy "say no to peer pressure" or "don't do drugs" PSA videos. 😂
Dream Lover (1993)
Definitely unexpected..
James is an amazing actor so I knew this movie was probably going to be good, especially with all the other good actors in this movie. It was executed so well. It starts off great, then you think it's sweet how they reunite at the grocery store, and towards the middle you feel like you're on the edge of your seat. It's a splendid mix of romance, comedy, mystery, and suspense.
In the end, I knew there would be some twist and he would get out of his pickle but I didn't plan on him taking the situation by the throat. She was smart, but he was smarter and both actors portrayed their characters so well.
Jimmy did an absolutely amazing job at portraying a fed up man who was ready to risk it all to get even. Mädchen did an excellent job of playing the sweet, but mysterious woman who we later learn to be a scheming psychopath.
Hands down one of the best thrillers, would definitely recommend.
Definitely, Maybe (2008)
Not terrible but definitely not something I'd watch again
The political aspect is annoying but it's not completely unbearable. Promoting promiscuity, especially to ones own daughter is not a great decision.
Thinking young kids should or would be taking extensive Sex Ed classes and even promoting it is quite unsettling alone. Going even further and writing the movie around a young childs desire to know every single detail (including the adult details) is completely unrealistic. No child wants a detailed account of their parents early life.
Ryan Reynolds humor is one of the few good things about this movie. The acting isn't bad but they certainly didn't choose the best cast on top of having a not-so-great storyline. Isla's character is kinda sweet, although a bit cliche. It's sad that he didn't choose her, she put him before herself and another guy. Traveled a long way to confess her feelings, only to find him with someone else and he'd practically forgotten her.
The ending certainly doesn't make this dud any better.
You, Me and Him (2017)
An honest review of You, Me and Him.
This was definitely not a comedy. It definitely wasn't romance either. The women who are supposed to be in love can't even stand each other most of the time. John has way more chemistry with Alex than Olivia(her gf) does. It would've honestly been a better move if John and Alex had gotten together by the end. This movie is extremely political as well. Olivia calls John a misogynistic straight man; despite how he cares about Alex and other women. Sure, he's not good with women but that's because nobody taught him how and he's just a dorky guy. Olivia only hates John because he was able to sway Alex in having feelings for him. She complains about everything and is completely unfair and rude when Alex loses her baby. John and Alex care more about each other than Olivia and Alex do. Overall, not a good movie. Unfunny, characters went in the opposite direction they wanted, and it's just weird how political they made it for no reason.
