Kannô byôtô: nureta akai kuchibiru (2005)
Other similar titles are horror films. This is a disguised soft core porn.
There are a few versions of Slit-Mouth Woman movies. Other versions are actually horror movies. This "The" version is actually a soft core porn. Most of people are probably look for those three versions.
A Slit-Mouthed Woman http://www.IMDb.com/title/tt0891520/
The Slit-Mouthed Woman 0: The Beginnin http://www.IMDb.com/title/tt1328625/
The very old version, I don't remember the title, but it was slow and not very gory. It should be listed in IMDb if I can find it.
This 2005 version is basically a few sex session from different couples. They were killed after they had sex. No story, little acting. There are lots of soft core porn in Japan similarly named famous movies and TV show. This is just one of them. Because there was no private parts or private hair showed, it can be rated as PG13. If you can even say the word sex, then it rated R to you.
First Winter (2012)
What did I just watch? And the point was?
Have you ever spent whole morning sitting in a small town coffee shop, looking out the window? I mean, a really really small town. Can you imagine it? I once did. I was lucky, I saw three cars drove by. One lady walked with two children. No dog, no cat, some birds. The shop owner apologized for yesterday's newspaper, his son will bring today's newspaper home in the late afternoon. Nothing happened, or, nothing worthy to talk about. I wondered why the owner kept the shop open, I had learned not to ask the obvious - for whatever reason, what's the point if I asked.
Do you get it now? You read my rather direction less, hollow though. Have you learned anything about me? Does it make any difference? Do you care? That's the movie.
A group of people lived in a remote house. They did not do much of anything. They did not talk much of anything. They did not plan to do anything. They lived their life, but nothing really happened. They cooked, they ate, they bathed, they slept, they made love -- they lived their daily routine, but where was movie worthy stuff? I don't want to call them hippies, because hippies have dreams; those people were minimalist. I don't want to call this thing a movie; it was just a few post cards displayed together.
Shuffle (2011)
Love it, in love with it. Why Lifetime TV style ending?
Today's low budgeted independent films usually give me a pause at first. For example, many low budget movies from 70's 80's did not color their films in order to look more expensive, they did not rely on rapid editing, or shaky camera for whatever purposes. Interesting plots and solid acting usually did the trick.
I was so pleasant surprised and intrigued from the beginning of the film. I can't wait to see how the story unfolded, the solid acting of every actors and the director's modest style carried the film nicely. It will be great if Hollywood gives the director bigger budget to remake. It deserved to be viewed by more people.
The ending was the real problem. Sure, a sentimental Lifetime TV movie ending was alright. It didn't seem to fit the first 70 minutes of movie. It still can be a happy ending, just not that one.
The Corridor (2010)
It was not big budget Dreamcatcher. but it was fine.
Some mentioned The Corridor along with Steven King's Dreamcatcher. The similarities were limited. What did they have in common? Childhood friends went to a snowy mountain, stayed for a few days, talked about feelings, strange things happened, people died. The difference, was it supernatural or monster?
The acting were decent. The characters were the problem. If you switch roles among actors, you don't really see the difference. None of them was more likable, none of them stood out; some of them even looked alike, dressed alike and talked alike. After subtle plots unfolded, half way through the movie, I didn't care any of them, what might happen to them.
It was a fine little movie, if you can sit through the first half. Although the last half was not very exciting, somethings did happen, it was enjoyable.
Necrosis (2009)
Spoiler Alert! Could have been..., Why why..., Watch it if to kill time.
As a horror movie fan, I think the boredom is the sin. Six city people (squared, spoiled, drunk, a little rude, divorced, whiny, beauty and brainy), a small town, some interesting local people, a remote lodge (also a huge one), one of worst and wacky snow season (weather forecast predicted good, but it was bad). Oh, oh, oh, did I forget to mention Donner Party happened right at where the lodge is? And, a stream of tragic events, every twenty to twenty-five years. How can it be boring? But it was boring, and boring.
The script should bear the most of blame. Actors and actresses were not big name, so I did not expect much. When dialogues and settings were right, their acting shone from moments to moments. Unfortunately those moments were uneven, one second was good, the next second was flat or bad.
Although it was low budget, whole movie actually looked very good, you'd think it was a movie budgeted with millions of dollars. Snow might be the reason that made this movie looked good - snow reflects light, extra light can really help.
I can see why people wanted 90 minutes of their back. If you really have nothing else to watch, purely to kill time, this movie is not too bad a choice.
Don't Go in the Woods (2010)
Horror or Music Video? Failed, both counts.
This movie (if you can call it a movie) can be summarized -- talked a few meaningless sentences, sang a song; walked and wandered a few steps, sang a song; did absolute nothing, sang a song. Songs were not too bad, pleasant melody, sentimental lyrics -- I did not dislike them, but the way songs were inserted into the movie was... bad and annoying. The acting was, you can tell those young actors and actresses really tried, but given a non-existent plot..., who can blame them? Production was decent considering its low budget; more or less, a TV look. It is better looking than many indie film. Many times, low budget slashers liked to overused shaky camera movement (thanks to The Blair Witch Project). This time, the camera was not shaking like crazy, that was only good thing I can say about this movie.
I saw it on Show Time, it was about, "A rock band that's on the rise retreats to the wilderness seeking artistic inspiration as they write new songs, but finds only murder and mayhem when they are stalked by a well-groomed killer."
Backlight (2010)
Stop the background music, please.
This was not a bad film. It had an interesting story - a chain of events, although they did not seem connect, eventually made a full circle. Dialogue were sometimes disjointed, from time to time, it sounded like 'reading a script', not like real conversation, but it was not that bad. Half of actors were decent; the other half were trying-too-hard. Production value was more or less like a TV show. It was enjoyable until... the music score; it was horror. Why did the director repeat the same score through out the movie? Why did the director feel the need filling every minute of movie with sound (that same movie score)? Why? It really drove me nut.
