Jones Plantation (2023)
Wage slavery > Chattel slavery
Considering its tight budget, the film turned out to be not so bad, after all. I still prefer the animated version, it is more powerful in delivering the message. The feature film delivers a different message - that wage slavery is better than chattel slavery. Yes, there are hints of government with the flag waiving, pledging of allegiance, the whole elections circus... but no explicit mention of it. On the other hand, it is a no-brainer that a plantation is a privately owned company.
What no one is talking about, and hardly anyone even noticed, is that Noah was actually promoting socialist ideas in his one-minute speech. So there's the irony: a bunch of capitalist simps, in an attempt to expose government, unwittingly exposed capitalism for what it is. They claim, or so they were taught, that capitalism is "voluntary" and stands for "freedom". And they are right - you can choose your master AND pay the bills all by yourself instead of being at his mercy. And if you work very hard, one day you can become a slave master too.
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
For what?
Great film and a great performance by Will Smith, but wrong story. All that drama, all that suffering - for what? To "win" in a losing game, to become a member of a parasitic layer of middlemen who contribute nothing to society. It's not their fault, they're just the ones who "made it" in a system that pits us against each other.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Transhumanism normalization
A "meat boy" falls in love with a robot. Transhumanist propaganda at its best. They want to take your Lamborghini (the biological body), and sell you a Volkswagen. Not even the almost perfect VFX could justify higher score than this.
Finding Joe (2011)
Disservice to a great legacy
A bunch of people trying to tell us what Joseph Campbell was telling us. If you really want to hear the great man's message, do yourself a favor and watch any of these instead:
The Hero's Journey: The World of Joseph Campbell (1987) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093183
Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth (1988) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296362
Mythos (1985) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389663
Joseph Campbell: Sukhavati (2005) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2341386
Thinking Allowed: Understanding Mythology (1987)
Finding Joe is just — and there is no other way to put it — boring.
The 5th Wave (2016)
Fear is a profitable commodity
The world "out there" is a mirror of what goes on "in here", in our minds. A society built on violence can only portray Others (invaders' designation in the film) as violent. Is it actually like that? I don't know, I've never met an ET. But think about it - what civilization, earthbound or not, would survive living aggressively? They would exterminate each other sooner or later, unless they realize that the only way to live is to live cooperatively.
One thing they got right - the US army is not your friend. I'm not talking about the people, they are fine, but the organization they work for, the machine of which they are cogs. It is the most destructive force in the whole history of homo sapiens. It does not serve the interests of the people but those of big business, to subjugate people and acquire more control over natural "resources" across the planet.
Hollywood has a long history of promoting fear and violence, and this film is no exception. In terms of craftsmanship—visual appeal and professionalism—they sure know their trade. But other than that - terrible!
Grand Canyon (1991)
A more beautiful world is possible
Everything in this Universe is connected. Intertwined fates of various characters point to their common trait - the primordial search for truth. The transiency and superficiality of imaginary values are obvious in contrast to timeless beauty, symbolized by the grandeur and depth of the Grand Canyon.
To live a happy and fulfilled life is possible only through an authentic expression of one's true nature in accordance with the challenges of everyday life. "Is this world a real reflection of what I intended to create?" This film does not give an answer, but reminds us to persistently search for it.
Zero Dark Thirty (2012)
Government propaganda paid by American citizens
This "film" is no exception to similar deeds like The Hurt Locker, Argo, In the Land of Blood and Honey, Top Gun, Silence of the Lambs, In the Line of Fire... The list goes on and on.
Why am I saying this? Well, why are there so called "embedded journalists" in US wars of conquest? For the same reason that war/spy movies are made - to brainwash the populace into believing that all of this is for their well being. You see, there's a long history of CIA and FBI involvement in Hollywood productions. Of course, the same overlord run both shows!
Read more about it at mediachannel.org - search for the article titled "The CIA and Other Government Agencies Dominate Movies and Television" from February 3, 2013. I would put a link here, but the review section does not allow "very long words", as they call them.
I bet Edward Bernays and Joseph Goebbels would be proud of Kathryn Bigelow. And George Orwell must be chuckling: "I warned you!"
