12 Angry Men (1957)
Simply a masterpiece
Lumet manages to deliver what can only be described as the greatest courtroom drama of all time, with a perfect combination of story and characters to truly sell the magnificence of his vision. The way in which we are able to understand and sympathise with all of those that deserve it is utterly breathtaking, helped in large by the terrific acting, specifically from Lee J Cobb as juror number 3 and Henry Fonda as juror number 8, the back and forth between these two characters is unlike anything in any other film, and the way in which this rivalry culminates in the third act when juror 3 finally breaks down and accepts his defeat is just beautiful.
This film has no equal, there is not another like it, it has stood the test of time and will continue to for many, many decades.
