The Ballad of Tita and the Machines (2023)
Tita's power is undeniable!
The story of Tita is one that we have waited to see for a long time! Tita is that mother, wife, bread winner, whose determination and power is unstoppable.
Laura Patalano's beautiful face conveys all the silent, still strength of an immigrant woman who has lived through hardship and come out on the other side. I love how her sassiness peaks through as well! Our field workers are true heroes and this film gives us a small window into the immense value of their work.
The cinematography is majestic. The opening scene displaying the beauty of the fruit and the field is breathtaking.
This film is entertaining, meaningful but also so important. It is giving us an opportunity to look into the lives of those who are often unseen, passed over. Field workers who actually keep our economy and or country running. It is also a story that is examining the looming issue of AI. What that means in terms of the value of our work. Lot's to think about!
The 90 Day Plan (2021)
What diversity looks and feels like.
I love Gabriela Garcia Medina's aesthetic and perspective as a director. The images and characters in 90 day plan are so enticing! You want to follow them home and keep experiencing their choices!! I love the way these young girls are portrayed. The quirks, needs and wants of all our little 15 yr old cousins but the huge appetite for something bigger and better and the raw guts to try and get it!
