Asteroid (2021)
Oi...
You know how sometimes a movie is just so bad that it's good? This is not one of those movies. The movie is just bad.
The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because there were a few instances where I enjoyed making fun of it with my family.
I understand this was a low budget film, but I'm not giving it any sympathy stars. It was pretty hard to watch. And don't even get me started on the ending. I don't want to give spoilers, but know that it's definitely not satisfying.
I hated the framing of nearly every shot. Also, almost every shot was stationary, like no movement at all, not even a slider. They only went handheld a couple of times. I feel like doing more shots handheld would've really improved the feel of the movie.
The writing is also really bad. There's a lot of plot holes, and though they tried to make this a comedy, there are so many missed opportunities. Maybe one of their only funny jokes was an ongoing plot about internet...and they set up several jokes that they never delivered on.
The acting was not unbearable, given the script and plot. The locations weren't bad either, my biggest gripe is the camera work.
I hope they never try to make a sequel.
Actually, I hope they do make a sequel. The only reason I kept watching was to see how they ended it...which was a disappointment. Maybe they could finish what they started.
The Defense of New Haven (2016)
Insanely well done
This movie was very well done and entertaining! Watch the behind the scenes and you'll be able to appreciate it more fully. One family did everything...they built the sets themselves, in their garage, and acted and filmed everything themselves.
I loved their first movie, 'Runner From Ravenshead,' when I was little, and I was again impressed by how well done this was. Their editing ability to clone is more believable than some major movies! I'm honestly just impressed that with only 7 actors they managed to pull off so many characters...and all of these actors/actresses are under 16 years old!
You may notice that some of the acting is a bit dry, but I can forgive that. Addison (who plays the main character) has the most acting chops of his siblings, he's quite good at acting with his face. But all in all, from a technical perspective, I don't have much to complain about. I will definitely watch this one again, and would watch any more movies this family puts out.
Jury Duty (2023)
Creative, fun, short show
This show was really unique and I think the concept is so creative! Overall, it was very well executed. I was rooting for the main character the whole way through, and they did the last episode really well, it was cool to see some behind the scenes stuff in there as well.
The only thing is I wish there would've been fewer sexual references and cussing so I could've felt comfortable watching it with my parents and younger siblings.
There's only 8 episodes, and they're only a half hour each, so it's a quick watch. I feel like they could've made even more episodes and I would've still watched them!
The next item on my watchlist is the cast commentary with Ronald, which came out June 2023.
