Saw X (2023)
I am excited for future SAW films!
This was really a John movie, and I am loving that! As soon as the Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures title played I knew I was back into the realm that is the SAW-universe: my favourite horror movie franchise! We saw in this film more of the man rather than the monster that is John Kramer, we witnessed what he and his assistants are doing behind-the-scenes of their games and that was a nice change. Saw more of his compassion, keeping to his word that he to help his players, getting them medical help after they complete their tests. The heavy rock music made me feel that I was watching the older Saw films an the colour-palette lighting was nostalgic as well! Whenever I hear "Hello Zepp" fade in at the end of the film it is ALWAYS encapsulating to see what the new twist-ending will be! I am very excited to see what future instalments of this franchise will bring! This movie has me still with a few questions left in my mind that weren't answered, but just like in previous films we will eventually get an answer in a future sequel from this.
And thank you for bringing back Amanda and Hoffman! I was hoping we would get Costas back into one of these films, and me seeing him back me cheer aloud in the theatre with astonishment on my face. Amanda is always welcome return to more Saw films, and I am still awaiting to see what happened to Hoffman after Saw 7...these movies can continue to take place in-between previous films and I would be fine with that idea!
I am ready to have this franchise bring out a new film each year again!
Halloween Ends (2022)
big Michael Myers fan here!
I just got done watching the film in theatres, this was a good film.
I am being perfectly honest, it wasn't the film I was expecting it to be, I was more expecting Michael to be the bulldozer that I had grown use to and for this Laurie to be the drill-sergeant type but it was a good change to see these two being in rare-form for a change, this film was a pretty good ending to the newest trilogy.
I found it hard to see so many bullies in this film (but that's just because I dislike bullying with a passion)
It was hard to watch a character like Corey who only made a mistake being treated so terribly by the townsfolk, and for Allyson to almost lose sight of what is right. But this was a good addition to the Haddonfield deterioration that we saw from Halloween Kills.
I find that 2018's Halloween was a 9/10, Halloween Kills being about an 8 and this film being a 7, which is still a passing grade in this Boogeyman-fanatic's book! :D
If you didn't find the conclusion of End's satisfying, just remember that Halloween 2018 had a great conclusion to the story we all know and fear!
We've seen Michael 'die' before, but this definitely felt conclusive as there is no coming back!
This was indeed: the END!
Lost Tapes (2008)
This was my childhood
I grew up watching this when it came out, I remember the advertisement for the 2nd and 3rd season playing on TV and I have every episode saved on VHS tapes! And I still to this day re-watch the episodes.
This show was my favourite cryptid show that molded me in learning more about the supernatural. I got into this in that 2010-era of Animal Planet where I watched everything on that station, and this show was my favourite. And...
I WANT A FOURTH SEASON OF THIS SHOW!!!!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
more Raimi superhero films please!
Not just because it was directed by Sam Raimi, but I REALLY ENJOYED THIS!
I am a bit of a horror film-addict and this was a good non-scaring film for kids to watch, not to much blood for the younger audience to see but man were there a handful of jump-scares.
Cosmic monster designs (that make me wanna go read the old comics), creepy settings and zombie Strange with the freaky cloak was so cool.
Sherlock did a great performance as he always does and Lizzie played a good and intimidating antagonist...and her witchy-self in this film didn't detract from her being one of my celebrity crushes <3
Also, the music was FANTASTIC! The sound of the chimes and that guitar, OH, it just really made this film seem mystical.
I can't wait to see more of Doctor Strange in future films.
I would give this a watch again!
BRUCE CAMPBELL!!!
Morbius (2022)
I want more of Morbius in future films!
I am a constructive critique: I tell what they could have done better and not to chastise.
I am a massive Spider-Man fan and so I have heard of Morbius' character from watching Spider-Man the animated series. So finding out that Joker was cast to play The Living Vampire, I was excited.
...Spoiler-free review first...
I liked Morbius' design, very cool and very frightening while looking pretty comic-accurate! :)
I am also obsessed with Doctor Who, so finding out that Matt Smith is in this picture made me light up excited.
I enjoyed watching Jered Leto, bravo on his acting as always, very good physical acting on his part as well for the first half before his change.
I definitely believed that Michael really wants to help people, so he was a very cheer-worthy protagonist.
Overall the plot made sense to me.
I am glad this film didn't have as much humour as the Venom films have (not to dis on the Venom films)
Pretty cool graphic effects. Also, a lot of their vampire bat facts were true, so very good on doing your research for the script!
And while I am a horror movie fan, I am glad that this wasn't a horror movie so that kids can enjoy watching this comic book story.
To sum up, I did enjoy watching this movie :)
{SPOILERS ahead}
Here is what they could have done 'better' (in my opinion) I don't like rating films thatI liked to be below a 7/10, so this is why I deducted some points away from a perfectly enjoyable movie:
The writing; I am a perfectionist and so I usually am not completely satisfied with an art project unless I see every angle as near air-tight as possible. I thought Agent Rodriguez' dialogue was a bit too much (I just found out he's played by a comedian but still)
I wish the film had a bit more depth to it, Milo's character development into becoming a villain felt forced and not exactly 'believable' I guess, I just didn't see the reason for him to turn on and try and kill Michael. Also, while I am a Matt Smith fan, I would have had him act different post-serum than what was given instead (I like my villains deadly-serious) ...also how did Milo take the vampire serum if it needed to be injected into the spine by a second person?
There was a few moments in the film where I thought the scene-palette could have been different, but the majority of the film had nice colours.
I just didn't leave the theatre having that epic blood-rush flow through me as I do with a lot of superhero films, I can't exactly tell what it is the film lacked, but it's just this feeling in me of incompleteness.
I would like to know what's in store next for Michael Morbius now that he is still possibly a wanted 'criminal'.
Also, I got really pumped for this film when I watched the trailer on Youtube, and I notice that movies a lot of time now have this problem where the trailer is a bit more epic than all of what the film turned out to be. I didn't see the Spider-Man graffiti on the wall, Morbius being a bit lighthearted after delivering that "I'm Venom" line and Vulture bumping into Michael in the hall.
And as a mild comment, I wasn't particularly fond of the title graphics at the beginning and end with the vector purple scheme (but that's just me as a graphic designer)
I am excited to see how this Venom-verse will progress in the making of more films, I am excited. I really hope Morbius will continue to be in more of these films and getting some screentime with my favourite wall-crawling hero :)
The Man Who Laughs (1928)
Such a beautiful film!
I of-course heard of this movie due to The Joker being based on Gwynplaine, but even if I hadn't watched this movie for being the influence of the greatest comicbook villain of all-time, I STILL WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS MOVIE!
I got teary-eyed and I felt for our main characters, Dea was a delight and I loved her character too!
I highly recommend this film to both DC comic fans and general enjoyers of cinematography!!!
