Salvation (2017)
Great fun, thrilling ride, bitter-sweet end
I think this was a great thriller show, with excellent visual effects, and dedicated actors that navigate a plot between science fiction, political intrigue and romance. Admittedly it has a B-movie feel to it with many simplifying shortcuts and unreasonable twists, but I have rarely seen a show which manages to keep such a high tension in every single episode! Very entertaining, I did enjoy all the love twists, exaggerated science (being a scientist myself), and how they managed to throw so many balls in the air and still -mostly- not drop them :) At times, it feels like the authors are toying with the script to see how many more crazy ideas and twists they can fit into it, but in the end kudos to them for the good job at holding it together.
I strongly recommend it as one of the best science fiction and thriller shows on Netflix. Certainly not to the level of Battlestar Galactica, but not that far from it either.
Now for the spoiler, the end is slightly disappointing. Maybe because this thriller had been so good that I had higher expectations. But it feels like a third season was originally planned and then cut, because the last episode looks too much like they had to go for the plan-C ending... Yet, they do a pretty good job for a plan-C ending, with good final twists, like Dylan turning out to be Nero and deciding to play along with his dad for once, and the asteroid being an alien ship. But some disappointment remains for unfinished character arcs, as well as not making the asteroid crack open and reveal some fancy alien spacecraft. Or maybe, my disappointment is just the absurdity of seeing lovely Alycia ending up left alone :)
In the end, it was good fun, and a brave product, hence my rating.
Furioza (2021)
If you are after violence, strong feelings and corruption... this is perfect!
Good plot and character development, good action scenes, feelings, adrenaline... I watched it by chance thinking it was a spin-off of Fury Road :D little I imagined when polish started coming out of the speakers... great acting, great directing, and a deep sad acknowledgement that this is how crime works, with the system of violence kept in place by how the flow of money reaches the top. I suppose the police officer even knows the government is corrupted and he is playing a rigged game, and accepts to live a life half-way between committed and delusional. It's kind of in-between Fight Club and Nobody; more violence but not as good a plot as the first, less violence but more interesting story than the second.
As for the ending though, I kind of wished they didnt choose to make it so bleak. Also, hard to understand why the hooligan from the other football team would escalate so much.
