True Detective: Night Country: Part 3 (2024)
Lame and lazy
Have mostly really enjoyed the first two episodes. Great setting and intriguing mystery. Very much liked the callbacks/references to season 1 and was eager to see how far that connection goes. Season 1 set the bar so high, and did a fantastic job of balancing superstitious/mythical elements with a true crime mystery. Season 4 had been shaping up to do the same. However, this episode was a massive letdown. Felt like a huge chunk of the episode was simply filler, with irrelevant and unsubstantial scenes, and certainly nothing advancing the plot. Then the last few minutes drop a full blown paranormal possession with a demon voice and everything. Seemed incredibly forced and cliche. More than that, it's a real buzz kill to the seasons mystery. A full blown ghost/spirit/demon arc is lazy writing imo. This season started the makings a a great crime mystery with some superstitious elements mixed in (very reminiscent to season 1). But has now really gone off the rails in this episode. Hoping the rest of the season can turn it around.
The Prank Panel (2023)
Funny and entertaining, but could be better
If you're a fan of prank shows, you'd like this show. As a big fan of Johnny Knoxville and Eric Andre, I was really intrigued with the show. Two episodes in and it's enjoyable, but not amazing. Definitely a show that would be better on a non-cable network as many of the pranks are quite tame, but still funny. Personally, I think Gabourey Sidibe takes away from the quality of the show. Her chemistry with the rest of the crew is really bad, she is also extremely negative throughout the show and to the contestants and doesn't offer much comedic relief, and just seems out of place on the show. Worth a watch of you enjoy prank shows!
The Sandman: 24/7 (2022)
Wow!
Honestly one of the best hours of TV I have watched in a long time. Incredible writing and even better cinematography. Seriously stunningly well done. Dark, emotional, and raw, this was a phenomenal episode of a great show. Particularly the first 40 minutes, could be a stand alone short worthy of awards. A dark reflection on the dreams and lies of humanity. The acting, and writing and particularly cinematography were all incredible and a pleasure to watch.
As a whole, I have grown more and more intrigued and impressed with this show. It's very well done with an excellent mix of fantasy, horror and action. This was a fantastic episode and I'm even more excited for the future of the show after seeing this episode.
We Own This City (2022)
Fantastic casting and acting, compelling series
I can't speak to the accuracy of the events depicted in the show, however, I found it fascinating, compelling, and just a tad depressing. First off, the casting was great and acting was fantastic. The first episode or two can be a bit confusing with the time jumps and many characters, however I highly recommend to stick with it. It is a fascinating look into an extremely corrupt police department. A very interesting case of "pulling back the curtains" into a police unit operating as a criminal organization. Basically a real life Shield. Highly recommend to anyone that's a fan of Shield, Justified, The Wire, etc.
