The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Definitely good enough
I recently had a chance to watch this movie for a second time. I liked it again, which is a good indication (for me) of a good movie. Just wanted to comment about the director's cut, though. In this case, I think the director was wrong. I'll try not to get into spoiling details.
All the director's cut changes are aimed at providing a different ending, but in my opinion the theatrical version's ending was much more powerful. I mean... a movie like this cannot be made perfectly self-consistent. There will always be holes in the plot, and they must be forgiven as long as the main plot line is locally-sound. The director's cut ending just doesn't have the powerful thought-provoking quality of the theatrical one. And movies like this are good mainly for their thought-provoking.
Nevertheless, both versions are good. 8/10
Crazy Moon (1987)
Definitely worth watching
This is a classic love story with a strange setting. Kiefer Sutherland plays a boy with some big social and affective problems, who falls in love with a deaf girl that is trying to find her place in the world. The way this is played out makes the story kind of hard to watch, but at the same time tremendously endearing.
Both actors do a great job, especially the girl, Vanessa Vaughan. I've read she's actually deaf, so I guess she had that as an advantage. Communication plays an important role in this movie, as both characters teach each other to beat their fears. And Vanessa's smile is nothing short of spectacular.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
A real pity, but not really disappointing
It is definitely better than the first one. But... Characters are pretty bland, and the story is pretty ridiculously bland. Emotional buildup is nonexistent, and the movie is just a succession of cliches. In many ways, it's just like a souped up version of your typical action/soap TV series. Characters have no life of their own. If that's all you want, you'll probably like it.
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOLLOW)
On the upside, the effects and production value in general are superb. More CG characters that are, if not perfect, great to see in action(check out the bartender "friend" of Obi-Wan's), great battle scenes, great locations, and you will see Yoda fighting like the best.
It should have been much more grandiose in the character (Anakin's especially) buildup, but it all fizzles.
I gave it a six/ten. After all, I'm definitely not sorry to have seen it.
