Halo: Halo (2024)
Hear me out...
Listen, we all felt some sort of way about the first season, especially if you have been a fan of the games since Halo: Combat Evolved first came out. I enjoyed the first season more than most, but it still felt like it was missing something. Season 2 completely laid to rest any concerns I still had about this show. This finale is what I expect from a Halo TV show. They're finally giving us things that are familiar. Covenant fleets, huge firefights on Covenant cruisers, the Flood, 343 Guilty Spark, Cortana and Chief finally working together, and the actual Halo itself which looks exactly how it should look. I really hope they renew this show for season 3, seeing as no decision has been made yet. It would be a shame for it to be binned right when it's at it's best.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live: Years (2024)
WOW!
It looks like TWD creators are going to hit on yet another spinoff. Dead City was Phenomenal, same with the Daryl Dixon show. And now The Ones Who Live starts out with one of the best episodes to come out of TWD Universe in years. It's also fine for people to watch it who may not have finished the main show, or watched the other spinoffs. They do a good job at summarizing the end of Rick's journey on the main show, from the events on the bridge all the way up to his new life with the CRM, a militarized group that has 1000s of people/soldiers as well as entire cities under it's control. The new characters are great. The dialogue was top notch. And, most importantly, we have our two fan favorites on screen again, FINALLY, after 4-5 years of waiting.
The Walking Dead: Dead City: Old Acquaintances (2023)
Great start.
Couldn't be more happy with the premiere. The dialogue and great, which we all know is something that can be hit or miss with TWD shows. The set pieces looked amazing. I was worried they wouldn't have the budget to pull off the look of Manhattan, but actually being on location in the city while filming seems to have helped tons as they don't have to rely on CGI, which is something else that's hit or miss with TWD shows. Maggie and Negan's dynamic is great, as it was in the main show, and they've had a few more years to sit on what happened which brings us natural conflict that doesn't feel forced. All in all, great start to a show that should be amazing if you're a fan of this universe.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Adrift (2022)
People need to remember that this isn't GoT...
Once you get past the fact that this show and story overall isn't as grown up as you would like it to be, it's actually not that bad. Like the movies, it would seem this show is catered to the same age group, which is fine. It looks great, too. And being such a huge fan of the ASOIF world, it's actually nice to have a less brutal fantasy depiction on TV that you can just relax and enjoy. So far I'd give the first 2 episodes a 7 out of 10, with this episode being an 8 and the first episode being a 6. Not terrible, but I'm expecting it to pick up in the coming episodes as the pieces/characters begin to fall into place.
Tales of the Walking Dead: Dee (2022)
Samantha Morton is fantastic as always
Need I say more? Didn't know what to expect from another Alpha and Lydia backstory episode, or if we even needed one, but this did not disappoint in the slightest. Great episode, great writing, great acting. No complaints. I didn't realize how much I missed Samantha Morton's acting because MAN is she terrifying. We also get to see a more human side of her as well, seeing as this episode takes place a year or so after the outbreak started based on what the characters were saying. Solid, solid episode and by far the best of Tales so far.
House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)
Yes, Yes, and Yes.
All of my questions about the quality of this show have been erased and it only took one episode. This is what I'm talking about! As someone who read Fire and Blood and also dove deep into the lore of the series as a whole, this episode did not disappoint. The cast is amazing. The writing is fantastic. The directing from Mr. Miguel and the set designs are exactly what I wanted, from King's Landing to the Throne Room to Harrenhall. The one gripe I have is that the dragons look CGI for the most part, but that's honestly not an issue at all. If anyone was questioning watching this show because they had an issue with GoT's ending, you WILL NOT be disappointed. A fantastic premiere and a perfect way to throw us back into the world of Ice and Fire!
Westworld: Que Será, Será (2022)
I don't understand the complaints.
This show isn't for everyone, apparently. For those of us who loved the first season, however, season 4 has been nothing short of a breath of fresh air. The finale was just the icing on the cake, too. I don't know how you could watch that finale and not be hyped for a 5th season. As I said, some people find the show convoluted and hard to follow. For anyone who has this problem, please, just go back and rewatch it. A 2nd viewing should give you a new-found appreciation for just how well this show is made, from the writing to the acting to the set design. Again, I'm honestly shocked at the amount of people giving it 5 or less stars.
